Your just verdict may not always make you happy. It may end up making a loser out of one group also.

Goodness is associated with compromise (being kind so no one is angry with you) which may not be always just, but will make sure there is harmony between you and the groups. No one wins or loses here.

Both are needed. But justice usually puts things to order. We can't make a society stay conflict free by saying "don't do it". But when justice is introduced in the form of penalty people will try t be good. Hence, they aren't arbitrary in the verse. Justice promotes goodness. But at the same they can be used separately. But goodness when used alone can become an object of abuse.

      Hello,

Empathy is more important than justice. It is important to be just. When you have the ability to be just all the time then you can show empathy. If you cannot be just then you cannot be good either, so they go hand in hand. Empathy is a prerequisite for being just in all weathers or you may seek to deliver a verdict that is not just even if you believe you bring justice.

You have to consider the meaning of "justice" and the factor that it is a noun and refers to "matters of being just" with sound judgement and does not only imply that you make sure a criminal is brought to justice.

Most religionists are exaggerated about that God seeks to bring every bastard to justice, but God rather likes that we show mercy and empathy for those who fare badly in this World and try to reform them and not just incarcerating them. They behave like they do because they have a broken Spirit and are lost in this World. You get rid of them incarcerated, but they will always be back again with their broken Spirit in another flesh.

      Be safe
      Amenuel

I understand it by doing justice, you cannot wrong anybody. If trying to be good you wrong someone then no, you have to stick to justice, after justice is done you may be as good as you want, in fact it is a duty to be as good as one can, but not overriding justice. And first requirement of justice is that we wrong nobody. No goodness at the cost of justice.

Yes, but there are also different ways of bringing someone to justice. Some believe more in punishment and some believe in showing mercy. The society at whole benefits more from correctional measures than mere execution or jail time. Otherwise soon it will pop up a lot of old broken Spirits (like it has today 2015) and the situation worsens.

The old Mosaic Decree said eye for an eye tooth for a tooth, life for a life... It is punishment to execute a man for murder but it will probably not change him when he returns even if you get rid of him right here right now.

That does not say you cannot both punish and do good at the same time. In the past S(h)emitic communities there were forced servitude to pay for your wrongdoings. You can serve some years for your crime to the victims of your crime and have a chance at showing your good side.

The World would benefit from being much friendlier than it is. It takes being able to treat enemies well despite that they have wronged you. Revenge is much less fruitful than it deceptively feels.

There are of course difficult scenarios when for example a person has raped and obviously cannot work for the victim family, but there is always something to do. The important thing is that his punishment is fruitful and can both punish and correct him.

A problem is that humans by nature love to hurt and damage and are violent. Empathy is still the winning concept.

Think if God was like us then there would not have been any Earth long ago and everyone would burn in lava. God gives people new attempts on and on and on.

          Be safe
          Emanuel

              Peace everyone,

              Thank you for your posts.

If the word justice (bil-adli) and goodness (wal-ih'sani) have the same meaning, why does God use two different words to convey one meaning? Why does not God just say "God orders justice"? Or why does not God just say "God orders goodness"? Could not God just use one word instead of using two words? Is there a possibility that God uses both words for a reason? And if God uses both words for a reason, then why is the word justice mentioned before the word goodness? Is the word justice mentioned before the word goodness, because fighting for justice is more noble/righteous than being good?

I think that the above-mentioned questions are worth pondering upon.

                Peace,

To do/be Good is your personal behavior whereas justice (to be just)
                involves society as a whole.

                  Salaam,

Being just means that you uphold (justice) the divine commandments from the divine law, even if it goes against yourself, in response to events/circumstances/agreement/trade/grievances etc.

Being good means to do things of benefit to others and as a whole.

Both are to be exercised at an individual and the society levels.

There are people who are good but are not fair or just. There are many, in fact, quite able to be generous and ocmpassionate for certainn people or purposes and who may not feel obliged to be good to certain others and even wrong others for the sake of others who weem to them more worthy of pity. They may think that they are good, and they may be good, but justice comes first.and justice is not retaliation as some have expressed here, it is not a matter of retaliation or not but a matter of not wronging anybody. Justice exacys clarity of mind and weighing een against our own wishes or penchants.

It is very proper that both things should be clearly estated, because indeed many people tend to forget justice while thinking they are being very good.

Excellent! a person may be good but not just.

There is a verse in the quran which states that God orders "justice and goodness."

Quran 1690 God orders justice and goodness and that you shall help your relatives, and He prohibits immorality and vice and transgression. He warns you that you may remember.

Why is the word justice mentioned before the word goodness? Is it a coincidence that the word justice is mentioned before the word goodness? Does the author of the quran use words arbitrarily? Or is there a purpose behind the order of words? Does the quran suggest that fighting for justice is more noble than doing good deeds? Please ponder on these questions...

What are your thoughts and opinions about the order of the words justice and goodness? Do you think that the order of these words are arbitrary? Or do you think that there is a purpose behind this?

                        Let me hear your thoughts.

Your observation is on point, there is no arbitrary order of words in Quran.
Justice is the law, while good is a subset of justice, both are important.

Empathy is more important than justice.

                        Evidence from Quran please.

                        God bless

With justice comes the real only goodness. without justice, goodness comes along with bad.
I think, we can only try to act with justice/balanced, Allah only is JUST 100%.?

                              Hawk99,

Who needs "evidence" for such an obvious argument? You can probably apply logic to figure that out or you can read below if you need me to help you.

First you should be an empathetic being and after that you can judge fairly. If you are not an empathetic being then you will judge fairer for those you sympathize with. Human instinctive fallacy. Do you even know what empathy is?

The Decree of Moses mentioned the empathy sentiment on the fifth line. Do you doubt it is among the most important messages?

First thing in a humans life to learn is empathy. When they are empathetic then it is easier to teach justice, but obviously when the person is empathetic then they have learned justice simultaneously. Win-win situation.

Justice comes from being able to be empathetic. When you are empathetic you can be just.

nice deep thought which came first? the law the laws of physics which not only is the blueprint for our world and space but the law that will sustian and destroy it. goodness is kinda opinion and situational you need the scene for the situation to take place in/on.
think of stars building and collecting dust/matter now consider a star like the sun having it's purpose with the earth and the moon, now consider the sun without that purpose... there are countless stars situation makes our sun "good"

okay quranic evidence there are some verses going something like " establish _______ according to ALLAH's handiwork" and "let there be no change in the way of ALLAH" also a verse stating " ALLAH has placed the rule of mercy on himself" (this meaning that everything is one thing and mercy being another, a rule that ALLAH chooses to follow possibly to make it more fun to seen people to hell but there is a verse say " and what can ALLAH gain by your punishment&quot
justice once again implies rules law , laws of physics, ALLAH created these laws and all scientific laws. we discover science not create it or we can uncreate them and fly and teleport and rend the earth asunder.

these are before men the earth is a greater matter of creation than the creation of men, also a ayat/ quran verse; so remember the heavens and earth were just smoke (space dust) until these rules got applied to it (like change some specs in the unreal engine for video game design) a bunch of covenant bonds (hydrogen bonds) later we had an earth that keeps spinning possible from the electrons that formed the bonds (gravity) which forms what is the easiest shape in space a .....Sphere (look for pictures of astronaunts drink spheres of juice floating in their ships.

the rules first then the players, no football until football, you need the rules so the people can follow them justice is more important also because you learn this with quran verses like surah al nur 1-3 let not compassion move you in a matter declared by ALLAH. also with suran ali imran where trouble makers are to be exiled, cruxified, or _______, this is above mercy and goodness it's what ALLAH commands over kindness and forgiveness.

we are simply put on earth to die and ALLAH is testing us to see which soul is most faithiful and restrained, and to make an example out of which ones are not, an example is like a system of filters you sometimes have to shift the pan around to seperate the sand from the gold, and from the gold and sands point of view they are just clashing (bickering, fighting, colliding, and having out over which one will come out on top, the believers are gold the pan is set up for the believers to win surah fath verse 1-2)

i hope this is a bit more clear but if your differing the contradictions are within yourself , because of something you have done (and action or denying a certian truth) you ability to reason have been altered causing you to .... not get it.

nice deep thought which came first? the law the laws of physics which not only is the blueprint for our world and space but the law that will sustian and destroy it.

A good questions yes, are either of these laws tangible however?

                                          Hi Fye,

You're making some good points. I mean, are they tangible in the sense that they were 'created' separately from the universe? Using cloth as an example - Is the fabric separate from the blanket?
