To not retaliate is a show of mental strength.

Yeah, the verses are loud and clear.

But if someone just slapped you, wouldn't you want to slap back?

Wouldn't it show you as weak to the other people? Wouldn't it show the others that "Hey guys! You can slap me and get away with it!" ?

If you can just stand there you are ready. Like Jesus said "offer the other side". Well, you can react like asking "what is wrong, brother/sister?" instead of getting violent. The point with Jesus and older teachings is that such retaliation is just fighting fire with fire.

It might feel good for you to beat the guy to the ground who slapped you, but what difference does it make except to give you a hormone rush? There will not be less violence in the world due to your action and the slapping person will probably be emotional again. If you turn everything around instead and show empathy for the person perhaps you can reach his/her consciousness. Otherwise the person will be confounded why you are not hitting back and it has a little affection overall in society and if more people do like you there will be a difference eventually.

If someone wishes to slap you despite that you have done nothing that person has some kind of severe problem.

You are not weak because you are not hitting back. Self-defense is legit, but it should not be triggered due to emotions and only be a logical reaction due to the necessity, i.e. the situation requires your input for the concern of safety, e.g. the person points a knife at you or is going to all out strike you in an effort to inflict considerable damage. This would mean you might die and this can be stopped. If you can disarm and subdue the person without any damage to him/her this is great and after that you can talk like a friend to him/her and ask "how do you fare in life my poor brother/sister that you assault me for no reason?", or perhaps if he/she did it because of, for example, poverty then offer him something and have a chat about morality. Might not work on a person who lacks an intact soul though but then all you can do is pity him/her, hard to help such people.

The point is that we should treat our enemy too as ourselves even if the feeling is not mutual. If the person insists on the same hostile relationship the problem is theirs and not yours.

One of the directives of "God" is that we should not strive to defeat anyone. This is very important. And according to Jesus we should not even be angry with anyone. And I say to you that you should not even let it disturb your inner peace. Remain at maximum control and act patiently and focused.

Like I said, if you need to raise your arm against the person it must not stem from emotions but due to it being the most logical thing to do given the situation. Before that you should deal in shrewd diplomacy and helping the person. And only go on with as much force as the situation requires and then talk to the person again afterwards if it is possible and that still emotionally unaffected and ask if you can help him/her.

The world would be a better place if everyone could do the above, but best if there was not anyone who was treated in such a way they become criminals. The world in many ways grows criminals because of how it is.

            Be well
            Amenuel

              I like that answer alot!!

If you are at peace and inner strength, by practicing a healthy kind of surrender, then indeed such events won't be able to trigger too much emotions, and definitely not emotional reactive actions.

By Surrender we attain peace, and we are freed from involuntary reaction. Surrender gives us tremendous power.

              Amen

Nope... I will definitely not slap back..
I will warn him / her that he or she better stop doing it..
If he / she refuse and still try to do it then I will break his / her hand so he / she can't slap anyone anymore...

Don't act based on 'revenge' but act based on compassion to others... protecting others from vice of certain people / group is an act of compassion.

An English translation of the Quran - 241 And believe in what I have sent down, authenticating what is with you, and do not be the first to disbelieve in it! And do not purchase with My revelations a cheap gain, and of Me you shall be aware.

An English translation of the Quran - 299 We have sent down to you clear revelations; only the wicked would disbelieve in them.

An English translation of the Quran - 2151 As We have sent a messenger to you from among yourselves to recite Our revelations to you, and purify you, and teach you the Book and the wisdom, and teach you what you did not know.

An English translation of the Quran - 2242 It is such that God clarifies for you His revelations that you may comprehend.

An English translation of the Quran - 2252 These are the revelations of God, We recite them to you with the truth, and you are one of the messengers.

An English translation of the Quran - 34 From before as a guidance for the people, and He sent down the Criterion. Those who rejected the revelations of God, they will have a severe retribution, and God is Noble, exacting in Revenge.

An English translation of the Quran - 37 He is the One who sent down to you the Book, from which there are lawgiving revelations; they are the essence of the Book; and others which are of a similatude. As for those who have a disease in their hearts, they will follow that which is of a similatude, seeking to confuse, and seeking to derive an interpretation. But none know its interpretation except God, and those who are well founded in knowledge; they say "We believe in it, all is from our Lord." And none will remember except those who possess intelligence.

An English translation of the Quran - 319 The system with God is submission, and those who received the Book did not dispute except after the knowledge came to them out of jealousy between them. And whoever rejects the revelations of God, then God is swift in judgment.

An English translation of the Quran - 321 Those who reject the revelations of God and kill the prophets without right, and kill those who order justice from among the people; inform them of a painful retribution.

An English translation of the Quran - 358 This We recite to you from the revelations and the wise reminder.

An English translation of the Quran - 370 "O people of the Book, why do you reject the revelations of God while you are bearing witness?"

An English translation of the Quran - 398 Say "O people of the Book, why do you reject the revelations of God, while God is witness over what you do?"

An English translation of the Quran - 3108 These are the revelations of God, We recite them to you with the truth. God does not want wickedness for the worlds.

An English translation of the Quran - 3112 They are struck with humiliation wherever they are encountered, except for a rope from God and a rope from the people. And they stayed in the wrath of God and were struck with humiliation; that is because they were disbelieving in the revelations of God and killing the prophets without right; that is for what they disobeyed and were transgressing.

An English translation of the Quran - 3113 They are not all the same, from the people of the Book are a nation that is upright; they recite the revelations of God during the night hours and they prostrate.

An English translation of the Quran - 3199 And from the people of the Book are those who believe in God and what was sent down to you and what was sent down to them; fearful to God, they do not purchase with the revelations of God a cheap price. These will have their recompense with their Lord. For God is swift in reckoning.

An English translation of the Quran - 456 Those who have rejected Our revelations, We will admit them to a Fire. Every time their skins are cooked, We replace them with other skins that they may taste the retribution. God is Noble, Wise.

An English translation of the Quran - 4140 And it has been sent down to you in the Book, that if you hear the revelations of God being rejected and mocked, then do not sit with them until they move on to a different narrative; if not, then you are like them. So do not be concerned with the people but be concerned with Me; and do not purchase with My revelations a cheap price. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the rejecters.

An English translation of the Quran - 586 And those who rejected and denied Our revelations; they are the dwellers of Hell.

And We gave him the Gospel, in it is a guidance and a light, and authenticating what was present with him of the Torah, and a guidance and a lesson for the righteous.

An English translation of the Quran - 4163 We have inspired you as We had inspired Noah and the prophets after him. And We had inspired Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and Jesus, and Job, and Jonah, and Aaron, and Solomon; and We gave David the Psalms.

An English translation of the Quran - 546 And We sent in their footsteps Jesus, son of Mary, authenticating what was present with him of the Torah. From among them is a pious nation, but most of them only do evil.

An English translation of the Quran - 568 Say "O people of the Book, you are not upon anything until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what was sent down to you from your Lord." And for many of them, what was sent down to you from your Lord will only increase them in transgression and rejection. So do not feel sorry for the rejecting people.

And I have restrained the Children of Israel from you, that you came to them with proofs; but those who rejected among them said 'This is clearly magic!'"

I don't reject the previous books, but Quran suffices, because it is detailed in all things.

See what I mean? I believe they are from God, but I don't need them, I have Quran, uncorrupt.
