Allah - Common Noun?
-
exactly
moreover gender is classified different in different cultures depend on te language adoption how one inherited that term
like let say urdu and punjabi both are my natives and in punjabi the word arm use femine gender whereas in urdu arm used as masculine gender like this
mera bazo (urdu) masculine
meri ba( punjabi) feminesometimes in case of eye
tumhari ankh(urdu) feminine
tumharay nain ( urdu) masculinesame goes in punjabi for eye like this
teri akhh ( punajbi) fem
tera dela ( punjabi) mas
so one thing "eye"we can speak in both forms if gender in both punjabi and urduintrestingly human classified gender on things according to their nature in case of living things
example earth always classified as feminine due to the nature of giving birth to things from her belly
even planets like earth who did not give birth to anything we classified it as masculinein case of non-living things different things classified different gender form culture to culture
as you pointed out about ship in english classified as fem but in my language ship(behri jahaz) purely classified as masculine
look how complex is all this and you still thinking about what gender we represent by God its illogical
no male or female can represent majesty he is above from everything whatever we can even imagine
either you adress him by male or female or none it will not effect the greatfulness and glory of God he is so high so great
-
Whise convention is that that masculine denotes majesty?
he moon is more majestic than the sun, for instance? The sun is feminine in Arabic and the moon masculine, like in German.
That is the kind of nonsense that undoes the other logical questions dealt with in the post, like that the gender of words is a grammatical question, a convention of grammar, and not any statement about the masculinity or femininity of say a chair or a brush. But gendering words does a lot to simplify and make language economical, which is why so many languages use gender as an important trait. But getting into the meekness and softness is nonsense. In Spanish "stone" is feminine, so much for softness. Of course, there ar emany words that also mean stones or some kind of stones and which are not feminine, but who cares and who fantasizes about it to come up with some sort of mystical transposition of grammar?
I am not saying a mystical transposition of grammar cannot be done, but surely not that silly unfounded way.
Salaam
When Grammar itself was invented? If it came after The Quran Divine revelation then it has no authority on the language Allah/God (SWTAY)

Hmm.. i have seen this argument before. Brother Ayman said that as well.
Could you also give me some more? I am interested in this common noun understanding of Allah.

Meant to say the language Allah/God (SWTAY) is using.

Grammar is inherent to language. Every language has grammar, just like any material thing has a structure. Gramar is not any more invented than language. Automatically if there language there is grammar, because the language is formed with a structure, otherwise we would not be able to communicate. But the constructing of any particular language may follow conventions, not inventions but conventions. Gender is one such convention. s aside from conventions, but exists in those things that are gendered. When applied to things that are not gendered in themselves, it is a convention. We agree or tacitle accept that a encil will hav e this or that gender, that virtues will have this or that gender, etc. etc. Just also like the days of the week are a convention. No essential difference between one day or another, just a convention for convenience and order. Language itself is a convention.
So no need to look for an alibi in the grammar of the Qur'an, where, by the way the sun is also feminine.

O people of the Book, do not overstep in your system, nor say about God except the truth. Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger of God and the fulfillment of His word to Mary and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say "Trinity." Cease, for it is better for you. God is only One god, be He glorified that He should have a son! To Him is all that is in the heavens and the earth; and God is enough as a Caretaker.

I have two last questions
1 Have you encountered some people saying that the word God is a pagan word or connected to female gentalia? (They use the bible if i recall correctly)
