    The Bible book of Genesis speaks of seven men who lived more than 900 years, all of them being born prior to the Flood of Noah?s day. They were Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Jared, Methuselah, and Noah. (Genesis 55-27; 929) Many of these men may be unfamiliar to most people, but all of them were among the first ten generations in human history. Methuselah is well-known for having lived the longest?a record 969 years!

    The Bible mentions at least another 25 individuals who also reached ages beyond what is common today. Some of them lived 300, 400, even 700 or more years. (Genesis 528-31; 1110-25) Is that really true? or Was Time Measured Differently?

    It's not uncommon to find tradition / culture who wrote a story that their past heroes, kings, deities lived to such extreme long age.
    The semitic traditions is a continuation / branch of Sumerian / Akadian tradition which also listed their past heroes of have lived to such extreme long age.

    Everytime the human body cells regenerate (split), it keeps an internal counter of how many times it has splitted before.
    And after some threshold it will start to mutate to some extent that some of the cells will run amok and caused damage such as cancers..

      From my understanding Qoran wanted to convey the two periods of time of Satatin and Aaman as well as both numbers 1000 and 50. for us to investigate why?
      We know why Qoran uses the numbers. The mathematical structure is such that all the numbers mentioned are counted and conform to 19 divisibility..
      As for the periods it is to do with the people of lot up to the flood. In this case I do not know exactly why ,but I am of the opinion that sanat and Aaman in the verse depict different periods of time. i.e a sanat in this case might not be equal to Aaaman.

      Now about Noah s age ,I think like all of us humans has a maximum age around the hundred or so.
      I believe it is irrelevant to know Noah s age. The verse does intend to give us the age of Noah otherwise GOD would have said directly that Noah lived ...years, but did not.
      So, in short I do not know how many years Noah lived, nor do I think it is important for the message .

        I think (i could be wrong) in chapter 17 verse 12, Sinatin means a day and in Chapter 10 verse 5, Sinatin means month. If you divide 1000 to 12(months) = 83 and then minus 50 Aaum(years) which gives you 33 years, Noah lived among his people. Like i said it is just my interpretation and i could be wrong.

          In the area where i live the youth is talking like that , if they date each other and one is late they exaggerate the Situation by saying i?ve waited 500years for you ,meaning Maybe 15 or half an hour.

          and 50 ?man is the duration with his people till the deluge happend.

          there is a vers in quran who is talking about the feeding of about should take two years ,i bet there is the use of ?man too, as i am sure ?aman is used when it comes to human laws and humans in particular whereas for history and celestial calculation sanat is used.

            Peace NK, there is no archaeological evidence of people with such lifespans,
            to the contrary people today live longer as Bro good logic points out.

            Once again these stories are not to be taken literally. The story is not about
            Noah's age. It's Allah's guidance that is being conveyed, what do you learn
            from the story of Noah?

            And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them
            a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers.

            But We saved him and the companions of the ship, and We made it a sign
            for the worlds.

            And these parables We present to the people, but none will understand
            them except those of knowledge.

              salam,maybe u r Aware that i opened a thread where i was asking this Question About the sign,well the a lot of Stories similar to that of Noah in the scriptures or in the quran .But it isn?t said we made this a sign like Noahs Story.

                Religion, Holy Books, Nationality, Language, Species, Planet, Star, Galaxy.. it all goes through the lifecycle and will meet it's death at the end...

                Your body, your identity, your religion, your nationality, your ethnicity even your name is not who you really are.
                It will wither and go away, as designed...

                  what i want to Point out is quranictalking for sign is to be know from People outside the scripture .So when it Comes to say "sign" then People will see that sign without reading the holy scriptures.

                                  Thats how i understand the versThe Region were he lived was longway habitated by humans, how Long we dont know.But since Adam i guess and till Noah pboh was born ,grew up and left the Region the quran uses the the Expression 1000 sanat.

                                  So when Noah was born till he migrated 50years passed but when he started his Mission ,i dont know.

                                  He had a Family,Wife and children and because his wife did not embark with him on the ship i sugest that his Children were already adults otherwise it would be ravenmother.

                                  Maybe The children were married too at least his first born child (bible call him Sem).He probably started his Mission with 45years when his wife left ,that would mean the children are in their Teens and young adults when he is 50years.

                                  The quran does not say boys "daqr" or youngster "fiyatun" so i came to this conclusion.And to build boaot for a few people with a few Animals would take if his children helped maybe round about half a year.

                                    Peace, I need to research this more believe they're all the same especially pregnancy and weaning calculations which vary on the cutoff depending if using solar or lunar years.

                                    It's clear mun/year; mayni/year two (i.e. singular and two/dual) and sinina/years (i.e. plural) are the same if referring to "number" whereas sanatan is used if referring to age/epoch.

                                    e.g. Perf558 says shahru jumada the first of sanatin twosome and twenty (i.e. year 22 of that dating system).

                                          I am more incline towards your interpretation of Alf Sinatin means long period but I cant find the interpretation of exception particle attached to this verse which stopped me accepting completely. How do we translate it?

                                          I have checked other verses, like in Chapter 2 verse 96 means long period, in chapter 97 verse 3 (I think) also means abundance or long period, also I can't remember the verse but in somewhere in Quran, God is talking about his one day as a long period (Alf Sinatin).

                                          I am sure other people on this group will either endorse or oppose the theory.
