    Hello Lote Tree, all

But I say to you what about love of God or love of a child? Is that a joke and illusion too, for you?

I don't know what is "love of God"

Do you mean to be aware of the creator, and and comply to the rules we think it demmands us?

I am serious, I don't know what it is.

I just understand that a bit, not totally, if we see it from the "oneness" concept. And you have said in other threads that "God" is not an objective fact but has always been a subjective experience of the individual. Can you link this with the the concept of 'love of God' please?

      Hello Elena,

      Hello Lote Tree, all

But I say to you what about love of God or love of a child? Is that a joke and illusion too, for you?

I don't know what is "love of God"

Do you mean to be aware of the creator, and and comply to the rules we think it demmands us?

Perhaps, but as I said before I am still struggling to understand the meaning of Love. I have so far come to this view point (rightly or wrongly) that Love is not sex. Sex can be part of Love.

I am serious, I don't know what it is.

And yes I am too serious about Love -)
But I am still coming to terms with it. Still learning. Still understanding.
Still struggling in the dark to understand what love means.

I just understand that a bit, not totally, if we see it from the "oneness" concept. And you have said in other threads that "God" is not an objective fact but has always been a subjective experience of the individual. Can you link this with the the concept of 'love of God' please?

If you are able to have "love" for humanity then you are loving "God" are you not? If you can have "love" for the Universe then you are loving "God" are you not? because "God" pervades, sustains and inspires whole creation?

Subjective experience of "God" also tells us that God is not a separate entity out there in a separate divine ontological sphere but is instricably linked with everhtying that exists.

      I hope that helps -)

But teach me about Love if you can, for it is Love that I struggle to understand, it is Love that I struggle to come to terms with?

      Regards,

        Hello sytalls,

        peace all
And an interesting thread, LT. Doesn't King Arthur have a lesson on love that fits with what you're saying?

That may be so. It is hard to be original when it comes to Love! -)
It seems like the Idea of God, human beings have been saying the same things about Love over and over again throughout human history -)

Romantic love is superficial, shallow and fleeting. So is it really "love"? It seems to be just a starter emotion that could lead to deeper love.

I am begin to think that romantic love is a starter emotion through which you begin to understand the true meaning of Love itself.

For real love seems to be a far sturdier emotion and one that pushes us beyond seeking our own gratification. And this includes love for others besides romantic partners.

I agree. Love seeketh not itself to please -)

The emotion we feel, what we call "love," may be only an internal barometer of sorts, a way of letting us know something's there. Otherwise, love seems to be a force we can tap into and act upon, unseen yet affecting us and connecting us with others. Empathy and care seem to be involved, although I'm not sure if they're the seeds or the water. If anybody finds a lost metaphor, it could be mine. D Or if you find a lost love, that could be mine too.

I really like this bit. Yes, love is a way of connecting with others.

        Regards,

          Salaam Cutie Br Jaxal,

Well I was thinking about normal people with a brain right!

The normal behaviour of a mother is to guard and brought up her children in a good way.

Ok, there can be situations when the mother must left her kids in another persons custody but a mother is always a mother and will do everything to be kind and just with her offspring ,if she is normal.

          Peace

                Peace to all,

I don't know if love is an illusion or not, maybe to those who haven't experienced it think of it as one, I don't know. But personally, I think it's very dangerous, for it allows you to live in this fantasy world which is quite distant from reality itself. Especially to those who are obsessive (not necessarily infatuated), it is very dangerous to let your world revolve around a certain individual, to let them have control over your emotions, because people are exactly what they are,---people, and they can't really be trusted. People can change very quickly, and so can the way they feel. Your happiness is in your own hands, and it's wise to let it stay that way. I wouldn't want to be dependent on anybody for happiness, rather keep them as a bonus.

                -Sara

Love one another but make not a bond of love

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And stand together, yet not too near together

For the pillars of the temple stand apart,

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

                    -Khalil Gibran

Let me not to the marriage of true minds (Sonnet CXVI)

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
                    That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

                    -- William Shakespeare

                      Hi lote tree,

only you could have started this thread

I'm with saladin on this when he says love is a test - but i believe that when we pass the test there will be a recompense...

Also , for further discussion - why not take a look at the kybalion (so dear to idolfree - thanks to him i read it) - love and hate, two extremes of the one sensation ... and also in the kybalion nothing stays the same... but read for yourself

                      Salam all, LK

But Love is a Worthy Thing to Investigate is it not?

I'm with saladin on this when he says love is a test - but i believe that when we pass the test there will be a recompense...

Test of what? For RomaNtic Love - is the test to see how much pain you can feel and endure? For unrequited love the pain can be like hot iron through your soul! So again I ask you - is love a test of pain endurance? or is it somehting more?

                        Regards,

                          Salaam Br Lote-Tree,

I will only add that LOVE has many sides both good and bad.

                          And Love has many levels.

With this I mean that love is good when you can have your love in peace with someone but when for an example jelousy come in then it can kill the love and change it to hate.

With levels i mean that you can love someone in different ways, your partner who you share the bed with can you love passionated but your kids you love in another way and the same with your parents, relatives, friends and so on.

For me Love is so magic you never knows how it will turn you!

                          peace

                          Sister Majidah

My conclusion is that love can have many faces and it is of course individual how you achieve love.

                            Peace,

I think it's wrong to try and sum up love like this so quickly in a nutshell! Love is what unites us all, our love for knowledge and the beauty of the Most High's creation is what unites us all.

I personally think it is very important and is like gravity in our lives, gravity is invisible but holds the solar systems and galaxies together. Love is what unites and is needed for peace. Scientists have limited knowledge of gravity at the moment, but with love I think every individual has a different understanding of it. Love is too vague and I think in this thread needs to be defined more clearly. But generally love is a good thing no matter what!

I love too many things to hate 'love' because of a bad time between two individuals whether they are friends or lovers.

I love music, cars, cooking, racing, comedies etc. I feel like a hippy today!

By the way, great and interesting thread Lotetree. More heart warming, unlike the heated debates!

                            Nural

The reason why the handful of people here can't make up their minds is because you can't "make up ur mind" when it comes to this, for there is no agreed upon definition for love. Every individual has his/her own definition or point of view. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. There are no right or wrongs. There's just a difference of opinion.

                                    Peace Jaxal,

                                    You stated

Love... its such an ambiguous word. We love our parents, we also love our cars. We love our house. We love our kids. We love our spouses. We love the sky. We love the angels. I love KFC. I love my honda. I love the night sky when its dark and raining. I love the stars. I love mountains. I love kittens and puppys. I also love the smell of my mom's cooking. I love the morning air. I love dance music. I love God. I love maltezers.

None of your examples are ambiguous, only degrees of or variations of love.

So, is loving my honda = Loving my God? Is loving my child = Loving my wife? that not only sounds wrong, but sounds disgusting.

I'm not the one who bottled up the definition...you are.

                                    Here it is again

Love , at best, is an excuse to have sex with the opposite sex and feel good about it. Thats it. There is NOTHING a person can do in love which he/she cant do when NOT in love. Prove me wrong here.

So if that's all love is, as you stated, then you need to explain your love of your parents, your honda, the sky, KFC, etc.

Love is an abused word. People stick it anyones face without thinking twice. I did it. So i know.

I agree wink But that doesn't take away from the concept. It only waters down the word used to symbolize the concept.

Frankly, the meaning of Love is lost. Its just another word. Nothing special.

Sure, the word is nothing special. But the concept is another story entirely.

People are stuck on the drama and movies where the hero will destroy whole armies just to get to his girl. Its a fantasy. Love is a poor man's dream and hope. Nothing more.

Sad, but false. I think what you need to do is differentiate between the romantic shadow of love and the overall concept.

Do you or do you not love your parents?

                                    Peace,
                                    Tay

                                      Hi all,

So, maybe after all this, love is an illusion?

Whao, so many quotes. Looooooooooolllllllllll. Brother, my examples fit the word ambiguous. There are so many meanings of love which explained in my example. Love dont have ONE meaning. That is the meaning of the word ambiguous. Having many meanings. Many possibilites. GOD!!!!!! The love for the father can be equal to the love you give to your wife. Thats a digusting thought. The point i was trying to get across is. Love in itself is just BS. Its not the kind where u dont feel hungry or cant sleep. You do that when u have ur final exams and u havent studied. So what now, i feel LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for my exams? Thats a poor man's dream.

                                          Peace Jaxal,

Many meanings does in fact denote ambiguity, but what you offered was not many meanings, it was many variations of the same meaning. I don't mean to split hairs, but I gotta call it like I see it.

The point i was trying to get across is. Love in itself is just BS.

But you haven't established this at all. You just keep repeating it in different ways.

Its not the kind where u dont feel hungry or cant sleep. You do that when u have ur final exams and u havent studied. So what now, i feel LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for my exams?

I really have no idea what you're trying to say here. What does hunger and sleep have to do with proving love is bs??

by the way...you still didn't answer my question wink

                                          Peace,
                                          Tay
