You might alrady know my position, but I'll add my opinion that Adam has been on Earth all along, therefore that guy was never 'sent' to earth.

      Peace be upon you,

      The story is not literal.

It is a story dealing with why we lost our ONENESS and started the journey through this test of the illusion of seperateness.

Here is a how I explain it.

There are three states of the Nafs(spirit) given in this reading, I look at them as the Divine Spirit, the Mental Spirit, and the Animal Spirit.

The focus of most humans is the identification with the animal spirit, that which animates (emotions). So they are guided by the emotions and sensations. Other grow to identify with the mental spirit, so they learn to control thier animal spirit (emotions), but until they identifify with the Divine Spirit, they still have to guess how to command the animal spirit. They still rely on belief. The KNOWLEGE(knowing) comes from the Divine Spirit on how to properly command the animal spirit. But the key to it all is to realize that "you" are not the Divine, Mental, or Animal spirit, you are THAT which witnesses those things.

The mental spirit is where we do our work, that is why we are the balance community. The Divine Spirit and the Animal Spirit both throw thoughts into the mental spirit, we have to learn how to ignore the animal suggestions and follow the Divine suggestions.

So back to the explanation, within the mental spirit is Adam and his Wife. They are the faculties of PROGRAMMING(training) the animal spirit.

Adam is the intellect(verbal thought), his Wife symbolizes the imagination(visual thought). What we think and imagine in the proper mental states is what we become.

The intellect(adam) is the part of you the segregates things, causing seperation, his Wife is the imagination, which takes thoughts and forms images which empowers the thoughts into manifestation.

The clearer your vision(imagination) of something , the easier it is to make happen.

But these programming tools have to be informed HOW TO PROGRAM the spirit. When they stopped following the God's instructions (not to go near that tree), then they started guessing, and conjecture is no substitution for the truth(knowledge).

SO when the word(verified truth) comes to "adam" (the intellect) if he follows it he will be all right

        Hi Jaxal,

How was adam sent to earth?

        This should answer ur question.

        Al-Baqara (The Cow)
230 Behold, thy Lord said to the angels "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said "I know what ye know not."

Man was created on earth. He was not sent to earth.

          SaLaM everyone

Idolfree, very interesting point of view. Thanks for sharing it. I dont agree with it, but im always greatful to learn

Pazuzu, God says 'jannah/paradise' and not 'ard/earth'. So they were in the Jannah/Paradise at some point before they came down here on earth. Then they ate the forbidden fruit and were sent down to earth. Here are the verses

"And Adam, reside with your mate in paradise, and eat from wherever you please; but do not approach this tree or you will be of the wicked."

But the devil whispered to them, to reveal their wickedness to them which was kept from them; and he said "Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree except that you would become Angels, or you would be immortal."

And he swore to them "I am giving good advice."

So he misled them with deception; and when they tasted the tree, their wickedness became apparent to them, and they rushed to cover themselves with the leaves of paradise; and their Lord called to them "Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that the devil is your clear enemy?"

They said "Our Lord, we have wronged our selves and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, then we will be of the losers!"

He said "Descend; for you are enemies to one another, and on earth you will have residence and provisions until the appointed time."

He said "In it you will live and in it you will die, and from it you will be brought forth."'

Clearly Adam was sent down to earth. Now as you and Tay have mentioned (along with me) AND GOD and *mumbles LT that mankind was created out of mud. Im thinking, the so called big bang theory isnt wrong after all. Maybe big bang happened when Adam ate the forbidden fruite.

          *mumbles LT

The other interesting question arises is that if biomolecules indeed hitched a ride on a comet then perhaps there is a possiblity of life else where in the Universe?

Indeed. Atleast i believe life is out there.

Little Green Men perhaps on a planet called zog who enjoy a bucket of KFC?

Always the funny one arent you ? loooooll. But yes, its only natural that every civilized society must have KFC. Thats like the fundamentals of civilization!!

Man was created on earth. He was not sent to earth.

PM, hmmmm. Then the question comes to mind, if Adam was created on Ard/Earth, how did he get in Jannah/paradise and back to Ard/Earth again?

Dunno what translation u r following.
the yusuf ali one mentions no paradise.
            here are the verses

719 "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as ye wish but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression."

720 Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before) he said "Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest ye should become angels or such beings as live for ever."

721 And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser.

722 So by deceit he brought about their fall when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?"

723 They said "Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost."

724 ((Allah)) said "Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time."

725 He said "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)."

726 O ye Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame, as well as to be an adornment to you. But the raiment of righteousness,- that is the best. Such are among the Signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition!

727 O ye Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as He got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them We made the evil ones friends (only) to those without faith.

These verses and the one i quoted previously suggest Adam was created on earth and lived there in. So, No space trips to paradise as of yet

propbly the garden that adam lived in initially was as good as the paradise as he didnt have to fend for his needs(food, shelter, etc) as everything was made (readly) available by God. but once he disobeyed God, God took out the special privileges and adam would have to embark on the struggle to take care of his own livelihood. This being my understanding of it.

Garden is an english translation word. The arabic word is Jannah. I dont know how to get the arabic text of the Quran so i will give you the transliteration, ok?

              1. Waya adamu oskun anta wazawjuka aljannata fakula min haythu shi/tuma wala taqraba hathihi alshshajarata fatakoona mina alththalimeena

              2. Fawaswasa lahuma alshshaytanu liyubdiya lahuma ma wooriya AAanhuma min saw-atihima waqala ma nahakuma rabbukuma AAan hathihi alshshajarati illa an takoona malakayni aw takoona mina alkhalideena

              3. Waqasamahuma innee lakuma lamina alnnasiheena

              4. Fadallahuma bighuroorin falamma thaqa alshshajarata badat lahuma saw-atuhuma watafiqa yakhsifani AAalayhima min waraqi aljannati wanadahuma rabbuhuma alam anhakuma AAan tilkuma alshshajarati waaqul lakuma inna alshshaytana lakuma AAaduwwun mubeenun

              5. Qala rabbana thalamna anfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana watarhamna lanakoonanna mina alkhasireena

              6. Qala ihbitoo baAAdukum libaAAdin AAaduwwun walakum fee al-ardi mustaqarrun wamataAAun ila heenin

              7. Qala feeha tahyawna wafeeha tamootoona waminha tukhrajoona

Jannah means paradise and Ard means Earth. I hope you understand now.

hmm,may be like i said Jannah was the state of the garden adam resided initially where he had all he wanted such as water, food, shelter etc

                    Hi Jaxal,
Am not saying the earth and heaven mean the same places.
but since Allah says, He created man on earth

                    Al-Baqara (The Cow)
230 Behold, thy Lord said to the angels "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said "I know what ye know not."

                    if God meanT Paradise here

719 "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as ye wish but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression."

He propably means 'Paradise like' state of earth - The Garden where Adam resided.
say when u have all that u want and feel extremely happy, dont u say u feel like u r in heaven?
so, propably a figure of speech.

coz, if Adam was created in heaven and sent down to earth, there would, i guess, be a more clearer description.

Keyword being - FEEL. It is, as you said, a figure of spech. Also in verse , you will see God giving the command 'descend/go down' which implies they were somewhere higher (paradise/jannah) and were then sent down (earth/ard)

As in ,no more free food and free elation for u, go down to a difficult world/ state where u would have to fend for ur own needs!

                          Salaam,

Jannah can be paradise or garden. The word ihbitoo can mean go down or it can mean, be low or degraded. I take it to mean that adam/mankind are to be low because of what they have done, to decend from their higher state to a lower one. Now we must scale the heights again.

Well, very intersting point of view. Ok how about this. In the Quran God uses Adam and Nas. Adam for .. well adam. Married guy, single entity. Then there is Nas. Nas is mankind. If what you say is true, that adam/mankind is same thing, then why didnt God use Nas and rather Adam.? And also keeping in mind that God says the scripture is clear. So if God wanted to say adam, God would say adam. If God wanted to say mankind, God would say Nas.

                                Hey Jaxal,

wasnt Adam the first of mankind?
Didnt the rest of mankind stem from him?
and when Allah was conversing with Adam in those verses, he was the only mankind. so, he represented mankind, i'd think.

Adam represents the pattern of which we are bound. Allah mentions how we are created weak and are impatient. Other words used for man, if you will are, nafs, and al-insanu.

PM God also asked the angels to bow down to adam. Do you think you are worth that? I dont think i am. So i dont think 'speaking to adam' = 'speaking to mankind'. The verses i showed you cleary says that at one point Adam was in Jannah/paradise and then he was sent down/degraded/lowered to Ard/Earth. Dont you think that it is remotely possible that Adam, at some point, was NOT on this planet AFTER his creation? I hope you understand.

The word ihbitoo can mean go down or it can mean, be low or degraded

Isnt there a possibility that Adam was a single entitiy. That adam did eat the forbidden fruit. And Adam was sent down. From Adam we all came and are here becoz of Adam. As you said, we are bound to his pattern.

Leaving that aside, Joe can you explain to me the verses 7.19 - 7.25 using your understanding of Adam? Im interested to hear it.

                                      Salaam,

Sure adam could be a single entity, but that's not my belief. Adam/Mankind are bound to eat the fruit , recieve the wahi to be guided aright. Error is our lot and Allah has bestowed mercy upon Himself for our benefit. The shame or perhaps the bane of our race is such suggestive influence .

                                      Joe

                                          Peace,

                                          I'm not a little boy.

I do not believe in heaven and hell.

                                          Jannah = Garden

Jannah represents more than a place in the hereafter.

                                          I do believe in jannah.

                                          Joe
