Definitions of ?sect? no. 1 and 3, that you mentioned, fit any humans forming a group of two or more individuals.
For instance, any football team is by these definitions a sect, as they are ?a group of people forming a distinct unit within a larger group by virtue of certain refinements or distinctions of belief or practice?. )
And they are ?a faction united by common interests or beliefs?. )
It also fits a ?double-team? in tennis, and the same in any other team sports. Actually it also goes for individuals in any sports or other activity, as long as the sport/activity has more than one member. lol
The only definition that may be more specific is definition no. 2 which is mentioning a ?religious body?.
All we have to do is to clarify, ?what is religion? and voila, certitude is there, FM is, or is not, a sect as per definition 2.
Maybe you can shed some light on the subject?

Have'nt you understood? The concept is that there are 2 opposing teams. There are our team, our boy's and we the good guy's and what we belive is THE TRUTH! Then there is the other team, who are always wrong, and whatever they belive in is foolishness, and the result of brainwashing.

Glad you could see the analogy with regards to your definitions of sect.
I can understand your point of view if you regard islam as a religion, then every group somehow connected to this religion must be a sect.
As I do not consider islam to be a religion, I fail to see the connection to the expression ?sect? any more than for any other non-religious group of people. ?
But, then again, this depends on the definition of religion, hence my request for clarification as to your definition of religion.You mentioned Sunni which I, most certainly, regard as a religious sect.
It is a group of people blindly following a leader, claiming to represent a magical being, who must be satisfied in order for people?s lives to be good. How to do this is explained by the leader, who can not be questioned. shockHowever, as many of the participants here have been through the experience of one or another of the various religious sects, it is quite natural, when it is discovered that the sects are partly based on distortions of a practical guide for humanity, to try to find out what these distortions are, and to find the real message of this guide and see if it tallies with the reality of life.
This leads to comparisons with the various developing new understandings and the old religious understanding, therefore the many references to, among others, the Sunni religion.Most people here have found that the quran seems to withstand any scrutiny, and therefore are, more or less, convinced that the guide is genuine and a source for us to find our way through life in a best possible manner.
I can not speak for others here, but to me the God is not a being, sitting on cloud number nine , controlling us as per his whims and mood swings.
Now, I would like your view on this thing called religion, because I can not see that the God is a deity waiting to be worshipped, nor that islam is a religion.

Not belief due to any kind of evidence, but totally blind belief.
Not a divine power, but a divine being.
Not facts but fiction put forth by other humans.
Magic and superstition are indispensable ingredients.Just from the top of my head. )
