The thing I can't understand is that if the fast was initially 10 ten days then why would the traditionalist extend it to 30 days why burden themselves that much?...this bit baffles me...

I don't know if equating it to "burden" is correct. Remember that this is something that traditionalists believe brings great rewards. Where there is reward there is a desire to do more. It's religious currency - more is better in the traditionalist view.
In this context there is no burden, yes you are right...

I cannot accept Ramdan as being "a solar moon part consisting of 10 days in the summer" as Ayman claims simply because this definiton is very far reaching and has NEVER popped up until recently. Moreover some important events in my life have occured in Ramdan, the traditional month, like i first came across the mathematical miralce of the Quran in this month 2001 while i was NINTEEN. Also another girl from sweden came to acept this mathemcatical miracle this year in Ramadan and so on. But whats most important is that RK, being the first real prominent Quran Alone Muslim and a messenger of GOD claimed to have got a personal revelation during that month from GOD. Could he have lied after all the evidence which he came along with? Is it possible that GOD wouldnt clear such an important "misconception" with him during his lifetime and not leave it upto Ayman, PBM or Aidid, who are not even messengers? It doesnt make sense to me. GOD Bless! -

I can't wait until traditional ramadan is over! Somehow, it has gotten around my office that I am a muslim and everyone keeps asking "I thought you were fasting?" "Are you off tomorrow?" " Are you celebrating eid?" And I have a lot of pressure from the Sunnis....

The word on the street is that Eid Ul-Kitr is Friday, November 4th 2005. This is what I am referring to.
I guess it's the usual confusion then. They were celebrating full swing at one of the local mosques today. With food stalls and all. My wife is pissed with me for not taking a day off and going to 'celebrate' ? -

I work only 3 days a week, but I know what you mean about people finding out you're muslim.
I fasted all minus 2 days because what I do requires that I be fully focussed (well... especially focussed) sometimes. During the whole time no one realised; and on the last day it was someone's birthday so cakes and coffees were ordered - hot chocolate for me because the secretaries know.
I could have taken it and dumped it but this is a ten dollar hot chocolate and I told them why I couldn't have it and that someone else was welcome to it. Everyone launched in with the questions and as it turned out no one ended up having the hot chocolate anyhow.

There is no mystery here. The so-called muslims, are indoctrinated with the Christian superstition that, suffereing makes one more pious and r-e-a-l-l-y shows Allah how "sincere" one is.
