Road to God Alone

Salam brothers and sister Sweden Majidah, D
Thanks for welcoming me on to this site, and my apologies for the late reply. My internet access is not always so predictable over the weekends.
Jaxal, I'm actually female - hmmm, maybe I should change my avatar!
Sis Majidah, I'm 27 years old. How old are you, and most other people on this site?
Wakas, you were asking which translation of the Quran I read - it was actually the one by Yusuf Ali. Since then, I've also read the translations by Muhammad Asad and Marmaduke Pickthall. Since joining this site, I've started browsing through the one by Free-Minds also. Any thoughts on which translation is the most accurate?

Salam Sky
I'm new here too but these guys will make you feel old(not in age) in no time.
Maybe we should have a list here of who is male and who is female.I still am getting to know some people but it's hard to tell what sex others are.
It doesn't take you too long to find out Jaxals a guy.

peace Sky,
I would not recommend any single translation. I recommend an intelligent approach, whatever the translation.
Different translations have different advantages. That is why using several is usually the best option.
I set-up the following website for study of al-quran. I strongly recommend it.Wakas

Peace Wakas,
Thanks for the link to your very insightful article on an intelligent approach to the study of Quran, and for the link to the study al-quran site.
I agree - Sectarianism, blind obedience to traditions, unwillingness to seek knowledge and idolatry are definitely what we should avoid.
I guess the main problem with idolatry is being conscious of what it actually involves - excessive love for all else other than God, nationalism, maybe even any preoccupation that takes one's attention away from God? The list goes on and on...
Anyway, thanks again for the links. I definitely look forward to spending more time on your quran study tool. It's good having such a variety of translations to go through.

Hi sky,
Hi peaceful muslim,
Glad to meet another sister on this site!
Same here!

Hello everyone,
I was born in a Muslim country where most people are taught a form of Islam that's completely at odds with rationalism and the intellect.Yep, keep the people ignorant then its easier to control the masses this way -)
It is good to know that many people like yourself are begining to THINK FOR THEMSELVES instead of relying on ignorant mullahs with long robes and goatee beards -)
Welcome to forum and "Sky" is the limit here wink
And go easy on Jaxal (not that I feel sorry for him or anything), is that his a mummy's boy wink

Could'nt have said it any better, there s definetly strength in numbers. Just look what wev'e done to Jaxal. Peacfulmuslim suggested he s avoiding our other thread. We better be careful though, don't push it too far.
We don't wanna bring out the Jaxal and Hyde in him. twisted
