Why does God praise himself?

2 a moving or drawing force INCITEMENT, ALLUREMENTI'm unable to find a better word in english to express the meaning of "hamd", but the basic idea is that the use of this word with "sabbaha" (which denotes movement or action or behavior) shows that the meaning of "hamd" is of incitement and urge in following a certain course of action (willingly or unwillingly).
When "hamd" is used from a human perspective, like when we are told to say "alhamdou lillah", it means that we have to show that the one worth of asking or soliciting is and should be the god, not anyone else.
For me "praise" is an empty word, it is used instead of "to thank" to express gratitude, but the arabic word for this is "shokr".
It is a bit confusing, but try to check the occurrences of "hamd" to verify the meaning.
And the god is the more knowledgeable.

Just to clarify this part of my post, the verb "hamida or hamada" is generaly used in today's arabic language to mean "to thank" while there is another word for "to thank" which is "shakara". The 2 words are used in the scripture, sometimes in the same verse, and are understood to have the same meaning ie. to thank or to show gratitude or to praise??, but if we look closer, they are different.

Thank you both for providing those occurences.
I think at this point I am going with "exalted" for "hamd".
I will try to bring it all together in a future post, just wanted to get my position out there for critisism first.

I strive no to deal opinion, only verifyable truth. I agree there are words that carry similar meaning, but never same meaning within the God's message, such as jidala(argue) and haaja(debate).

eg sujood and islam.(compliance)I take sujood to be compliance/submission(hear and obey), while islam is peacefulness.
meethaq(covenant)and deen.(obligation,bond),
I take meethaq to be more like a promise while deen is Order.
mumin(follower of gods law) and muhsin(doer of justice) slight variations but related concepts.

Peace-idolfree. So it can be possible for different arabic words to mean related concepts(eg mumin and muhsin),in light of this i suggest shukr,hamd and ibadat are all related to service to gods law. (obedience)
