Salat: Sick to death of it

I am frustrated, annoyed, angry, utterly exhausted and sick to death of the salat issue. I want to shoot myself, no, I want to explode! brickwall
I can not comprehend, why there is not ONE CLEAR translation of the word "salat"!!! WHY for F's sake!? ??

How can it be so hard!!? I speak Japanese and English. Here's a little translation exercise; The word "Horse"(English) <--> "Uma" (Japanese)
There, done. Translated. Now, somebody please kindly do the same for "salat". Look, I'll even start it for you!

Good point, I have same problem for Turkish Speaking people. Lets look at the couple of verses, see if we can fins and answer
"Had we made it a non-Arabic reading, they would have said, ?why are the verses not explained?? Shall we reveal non-Arabic (reading/quran) to an Arab? Say, ?For those who believe, it is a beacon and a guide. As for those who do not believe they will be deaf and blind to it, as if they are being called from afar. Since God had revealed it in Arabic to Araps, They should at least have a good dictionary that will explain to Non Araps shock
May be the Answer is the the following verse
The Arabs are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and the most likely to ignore the laws that GOD has revealed to His messenger. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise. (997) ?
It might be an Arap hypocrisy against NON ARAPS.

I don't have any propblem with the word salat since I was a child really, it means in Arabic "Connection"
and the word is used to describe the connection the slaves suppose to intiate to talk to Allah regarding their personal affairs
regarding how many times a day
well, the more you do it the better for you according to the Quran, but because I'm not that humblling slave, I will follow the prophet in the 5 basic ones, the history records told us about
see, no confusion whatsoever, it is us who bring the confusion to ourselves

Nazz, like Ahmed said, Salat means "Connection" or "Contact"; some way of contacting God.Secondly, I know for Qur'an-aloners such as ourselves, this might be frustrating. But, the beauty of being Qur'an-alone is that the Qur'an is very general and flexible. The Qur'an says it is a complete book, and fully detailed meaning we have to work with what we have. If something is not there (for example how to "Contact" God ), then we can do it anyway we want. God did not assign a specific way to do it. Thusly, we can look at other verses, research, follow any rules in the Qur'an regarding Salat, and shape our own way of Salat.

and I agree.. if there is ONE issue we as a community need to address... it's SALAT.
We've got to get together and ponder over it's meaning and come out with something definitive; so far I'm very tempted to understand it as "commitment" as per Aidid Safar. Some of the verses really start making sense when u apply this meaning but others clearly don't.
Maybe Salat has all it's different meanings in all these different verses.. maybe this is the test for those who 'ponder over the verses' as opposed to the ones who are content being just 'Muslims' and don't wish to achieve the higher status of being a 'Momin' and the hard work that goes with it.

literally meany "To" and in the above context it clearly means if we stand up TO perform Salat
