      Salaam Alaikum SIS ZAINAB,

      you wrote

      In the Glorious Qur'aan the word 'concubine' is used once but it does not refer to slaves and it is mentioned that "concubines" are not allowed. Apparently the word "concubine" in the Qur'aan refers to what is today known as mistress. I do not recall this Surah but will try to find it and then post it here, InshAllah.

      i would love to see that verse )

      peace.

      Salaam Alaikum ..
      Here is that verse from the Glorious Qur'aan I was referring to

      "This day are (all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the virtuous women of those who received the Scripture before you (lawful for you) when ye give them their marriage portions and live with them in honor, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines. Whoso denieth the faith, his work is vain and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter." (55) 'Al-Maidah'

      Translated by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall

          Today, all good food is made lawful for you. The food of the people of the scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. Also, you may marry the chaste women among the believers, as well as the chaste women among the followers of previous scripture, provided you pay them their due dowries. You shall maintain chastity, not committing adultery, nor taking secret lovers. Anyone who rejects faith, all his work will be in vain, and in the Hereafter he will be with the losers.

          Yusuf Ali
          This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).

          Pickthal
          This day are (all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the virtuous women of those who received the Scripture before you (lawful for you) when ye give them their marriage portions and live with them in honour, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines. Shakir
          This day (all) the good things are allowed to you; and the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them; and the chaste from among the believing women and the chaste from among those who have been given the Book before you (are lawful for you); when you have given them their dowries, taking (them) in marriage, not fornicating nor taking them for paramours in secret; and whoever denies faith, his work indeed is of no account, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers.

          Sher Ali
          This day all good things have been made lawful for you. And the food of the people of the Book is lawful for you. And your food is lawful for them. And lawful for you are chaste believing women and chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you, when you give them their dowries, contracting valid marriage and not committing fornication, nor taking secret paramours. And whoever rejects the faith, his work indeed is vain, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.

          Progressive Muslims
          Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, and the food of those who have been given the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the independent from the believing women, and the independent from the people of the Scripture before you, if you have given them their dowries, protected, chaste, and not seeking to take lovers. And whoever rejects belief, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers.

                    Peace agent,

                    But these words do not appear in the arabic - or show them how?

                    so it should have been something

                    Now this fits very well as follows , look to the context of the whole

                    The believers must (eventually) win through
                    Those who humble themselves in their prayers
                    Who avoid vain talk;
                    Who are active in deeds of charity;
                    Who abstain from sex
                    Except with their partners or (rather) whom they posses by hands/oaths,- for then they are free from blame.

                    And no slaves for sex as that isn't allowed any where in the holy scripture.

                    The pagans made it up for enjoyment - cunning wasn't it?

                    Peace and understanding be with you too.

                            If Quran allowed sex with slaves than its also allowing slavery.....this doesnt sound right to me. A nice excuse to have so many sexual partners...........I dont understand why muslims accuse ppl if they have gf/bf or sex before marriage between couples.

                            Why dont we just get straight..!!! sex is ok between two person who are willing to share their body with each other thru understanding. Forget abt all these institutional marriage. where is the harm here?

                            here is the harm

                            (i quote from RationalReality.com)

                            PREMARITAL SEX AND THE DYING NUCLEAR FAMILY

                            This paper examines the relationship between society's greater acceptance attitudes towards premarital sex since the 1960s, the breakdown of the traditional U.S nuclear family, and the rise in female-headed single parent households.

                            It presents this increase in permissiveness towards premarital sex and the accompanying practice changes as causal links to the increase in the divorce rate and the feminization of poverty

                            The research is also extended to include status of women and children, juvenile delinquency, and shallower relationships at all levels in society.

                            The research model follows a logico-empirical path analysis, similar to the what the "path" that the Koran suggests while discussing non-marital sex (Koran 179).

                                    231-7,
                                    the believers will win through, -
                                    Those who humble themselves in their prayers;
                                    who avoid vain talk;
                                    who are active in deeds of charity;

                                    But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors.
