The first question one should ask is the following

Is the single nafs (God has created us out of which) referring to Adam ?

IMHO, it is not referring to Adam (no more than the zawjaha is referring to Eve, created from the rib of Adam, as the traditionalist claim).

Here is the translation and explanation of Muhammad Asad for this verse

(Asad) O MANKIND! Be conscious of your Sustainer, who has created you out of one living entity, and out of it created its mate, and out of the two spread abroad a multitude of men and women.* And remain conscious of God, in whose name you demand from one another, and of these ties of kinship. Verily, God is ever watchful over you!

    • Out of the many meanings attributable to the term nafs - soul, spirit, mind, animate being, living entity, human being, person, self (in the sense of a personal identity), humankind, life-essence, vital principle, and so forth - most of the classical commentators choose "human being", and assume that it refers here to Adam. Muhammad ?Abduh, however, rejects this interpretation (Manar IV, 323 ff.) and gives, instead, his preference to "humankind" inasmuch as this term stresses the common origin and brotherhood of the human race (which, undoubtedly, is the purport of the above verse), without, at the same time, unwarrantably tying it to the Biblical account of the creation of Adam and Eve. My rendering of nafs, in this context, as "living entity" follows the same reasoning - As regards the expression zawjaha ("its mate&quot, it is to be noted that, with reference to animate beings, the term zawj ("a pair", "one of a pair" or "a mate&quot applies to the male as well as to the female component of a pair or couple; hence, with reference to human beings, it signifies a woman's mate (husband) as well as a man's mate (wife). Abu Muslim - as quoted by Razi - interprets the phrase "He created oout of it (minha) its mate" as meaning "He created its mate out of its own kind (min jinsiha)", thus supporting the view of Muhammad ?Abduh referred to above. The literal translation of minha as "out of it" clearly alludes, in conformity with the text, to the biological fact that both sexes have originated from "one living entity".

O mankind, We created you from a male and female

That is right but this is a general statement that have exceptions

For example Adam was created from nothing ?not from a male and female?

Adam?s partner was created from a male only ?not from a male and female?

Jesus was created from a female only ?not from a male and female?

So Allah did all possibilities if you consider that all humans coming from Adam and his partner excluding Jesus came from a male and female, so 4913 is just a general law that does not apply at least to Adam, his partner and Jesus

      Peace Ahmed,

I don't agree there were exception.

I don't agree the partner of Adam was created out of him (nor out of his ribs). I would rather say she was created in the same nature as him. The word min can mean "from", "among", as well as "in the same nature as".

And, according to me, Jesus has been created from a male and a female, like any human being. I don't agree his mother was virgin after his conception, nor that his father was God, as the Christians (and some Sunnis under the influence of Christian beliefs) claim.

Do not hesitate to open a new thread to discuss this issue.

      Peace

        As salamu alaykum.
        Respectfully.

I have to say that i cannot agree with you on this issue.
Jesus has no father, like Adam.
Adam has no navel because when God Almighty created him, He said"BE!" and Adam was created.
God created Jesus in the same way He created Adam. But Jesus only had a mother, Jesus did not have a father. Mary was a virgin because we have Qur'an to show the proof.

        No offence.
        As salamu alaykum.

            Peace Alen,

First of all, the Quran supports Evolution, not creationism. When the the term 'Qul'='Be' with God is used in the Quran, it refers to that if God wants something, it will happen. Nowhere does it imply that it took place in a second. God uses the same term for the creation of the universe which took billions of years, and again the term 'be' is used. People fill in the blanks themselves. They fill in that it happened immediately, but the Quran never implies that. One day for Him is like 1000 years for us, as in time doesn't excist for Him, but for us it does. Where does it mean that happened immediately? 'Say Be and it is' in my eyes refers to that it will happen because God wants it to happen and nothing can stop it. God says He created humans in stages, and made them succes each other, which refers to guided evolution. So Adam, which refers to the first peoples, as can be seen by the plural use in 236-38, was the end result of progressive design. You have to compare verses to understand the timeframe God means with the creation of the first humans(Adam).

As for Jesus. Where does it say in the Quran he was born out of a virgin? When the angels come to her saying she will carry a child, she reacts surprised, like they accused her. We don't know the age she was told this. If she was 14 or 25, it doesn't matter. it is clear she wasn't married yet, and by thus reacts the way she does. When you investigate the dead sea scrolls, you can see that in the Temple Mary lived in, people lived in celibacy. Only a few were selected for marriage. She was selected as she was an decendant of Aaron, a holy bloodline. She was given to the Temple, and everyone, including Mary herself, thought she would live in celibacy till her death as this was the custom when you are given to the Temple. This explains her answer, and her family answer, when they are surprised she had a child.

Nowhere does the Quran imply Jesus was born in an unnatural way. God doesn't brake His laws. Of course He can, but He says in the Quran He will not brake them, this includes laws of Nature. The comparison of Adam and Jesus, is that like the first peoples, Jesus had gone through normal development as a foetus, just like the first humans were developed through guided evolution.

In the Christian history, the concept of the virgin birth only came 150 years later after Jesus as part of their theology. The word virgin is translated wrong, as in aramaic the word means 'young woman' as in young bride. Only the Gospel of Luke implies virgin birth, as he is the only Greek, and was influenced by the Isis-cult who believed Isis was a virgin given birth to Horus.

People ask me 'Why then is Jesus's father not mentioned?' But people forget he is. Jesus is called Messiah, which refers to him being a decendant of David. mary wasn't family of David, but of Aaron. Joseph was decendant of David. Only through Joseph being his father, could Jesus being called Messiah. Also Jesus's father is not mentioned because he has no importance for us. Moses's father is also not mentioned, but no one doubts about him being born naturaly.

People are thaught to see a virgin-birth in those verses. Even when people follow the Quran alone, still they grew up with this concept, or have heard about it, and by thus, their subconciousness is filled in with the virgin concept. They fill in the blanks themselves, which is very dangerous.

One of the important injunctions of the Qur'an is that Allah makes Laws as He wills in the World of Command and enforces them in the World of Creation i.e. the Universe (754, 8516). And then, He never changes them. The grand empire of human learning, development, invention, science and technology would have failed to come off ground if Allah?s physical Laws in the Universe were to keep changing. Pregnancy requires the union of the male and the female chromosomes. Allah never changes His Laws. Therefore, the idea of a virgin birth, although popular among the Christians and Muslims, is non-Qur?anic and absolutely erroneous.

Jesus is referred to as son of Mary because his mother was more prominent and also because his father, Joseph the craftsman(refering to being a specialist in his work, not carpenter), died at an early age. The Bible also refers to Jesus as son of man and as son of David. In fact three of the four Gospels in their gealogies name Joseph as the father of Jesus. Mary was the first revolutionary and that too, a feminine voice, against the man-made institution of monasticism. Let us note here a few salient points for the sake of clear understanding.

Mary was a descendant of Prophet Aaron. Even generations after a prominent person, it was customary to call the descendants by his or her name. In Luke 15 Elizabeth, the wife of Prophet Zachariah, is referred to as, ?One of the daughters of Aaron?. Similarly, Mary is referred to as sister of Aaron in the Qur'an 1928.

In 1922-23 Mary is shown grieving, then talking to her husband. Marrying him in violation of the normal sanctuary rules, lack of shelter and labor pains all add to her grief which she is expressing.

Now a few more important concepts given in the Qur?an that strongly negate the fallacy of the ?virgin birth? of Jesus
            Allah does all things according to His Laws (340,199) You will never find Allah?s Laws changing or deviating (634, 6116, 1064, 1777, 1827, 3338, 3362, 3543, 4085, 4823)
The example of Jesus, as far as God is concerned, is the same as that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, "Be!", and he was (359)
By Adam is meant all mankind (711)
All humans are created from dust, then from a zygote, the union of male and female gametes. (Verses too many to mention).

The Qur?an emphatically and repeatedly states that all human beings are procreated from both male and female chromosomes, without exception. (Again, verses too many to mention, but Surah Al-Baqarah should suffice).
Even God won?t have an offspring since He never had a mate (6101).

Verse 1922 narrates of Mary moving far off from her village. Since Mary had broken the normal rules of the shrine, she and her family kept the marriage with Joseph carpenter confidential.
The Qur'an describes Zechariah and wife begetting Yahya a. s. against some odds but not against Allah's Laws. 340 Zechariah prayed to Allah, but then wondered, ?My Lord! How could I have a son when old age has overtaken me already and my wife is barren?? He said, ?So it will be, Allah does everything according to His Laws.? (The infertility in his wife was cured 2190).

343 She (Mary) was told by angels to gather courage, quit monasticism, submit to the Command of her Lord and join her family for leading a normal life bowing to the design that Allah has ordained for people.
345 Angels said, ?O Mary! Allah gives you the good news through a word from Him. ----.
347 Mary exclaimed! ?O My Lord, How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?? He said, ?Just as Allah creates everyone according to His Laws (340). When Allah decrees a matter, it starts happening.?
1920 She said, "How can I have a son when no man has ever touched me? For, never have I been a loose woman!? (346, 192.
About 345-47 please note that Mary is only engaged and not yet married to Joseph. We also don't know the age when this is told. Also grown up in a celibacy temple, her surroundings were negative against marriage and sexual relationships.

The first question one should ask is the following

Is the single nafs (God has created us out of which) referring to Adam ?

Of course, this is clear to a child from verse 230-34

IMHO, it is not referring to Adam (no more than the zawjaha is referring to Eve, created from the rib of Adam, as the traditionalist claim).

Well, I don?t know who is eve neither I ever said that it was created from a specific part of him, did you get these from the hadith or what?

Here is the translation and explanation of Muhammad Asad for this verse

I don?t know how many times I have to say this bro?, well here is one more time, any translation has no meaning to a native Arabic speaker, it is not like I have to bloody to translate to another language to understand it while I?m fluent in Arabic this does not make any sense thank you, but let me be fair and just have a look at Asad work

The above sound good to me, can you read the words ? out of one living entity?, then the words ? and out of it created its mate??

Can I ask, is Asad an Aussie?

                    • Out of the many meanings attributable to the term nafs - soul, spirit, mind, animate being, living entity, human being, person, self (in the sense of a personal identity), humankind, life-essence, vital principle, and so forth - most of the classical commentators choose "human being", and assume that it refers here to Adam. Abu Muslim - as quoted by Razi - interprets the phrase "He created oout of it (minha) its mate" as meaning "He created its mate out of its own kind (min jinsiha)", thus supporting the view of Muhammad Abduh referred to above. The literal translation of minha as "out of it" clearly alludes, in conformity with the text, to the biological fact that both sexes have originated from "one living entity".

                    http//www.geocities.com/masad02/004

all the above is irrelevant bro

Asad said ? who has created you out of one living entity, and out of it created its mate, and out of the two spread abroad a multitude of men and women?

And that is exactly what Allah said

                    Thank you

                      Peace bro

I don't agree there were exception.

Why is that?, but I didn?t make this up, it is written in the Quran

I don't agree the partner of Adam was created out of him (nor out of his ribs). I would rather say she was created in the same nature as him. The word min can mean "from", "among", as well as "in the same nature as".

Excuse me, here is the sequence again

                      1. Allah khalaqa Adam Min Soil
                      2. Allah Khalaqa his mate from Adam (Khalaq Minha Zawjiha), can you see that Minha is referring to a feminie?, that is because it is from the feminie soul of Adam, ?among the soul of adam? does not make any sense bro, it is just silly

And, according to me, Jesus has been created from a male and a female,

According to you but not according to the Quran, but if you mean an angel in the shape of man, I can accept that because that is what the Quran said

like any human being. I don't agree his mother was virgin after his conception,

well up to the moment the angel appeared to her in the shape of man, she must been a virgin because she said to him ?Lam Yamsasny Bashara?

nor that his father was God, as the Christians (and some Sunnis under the influence of Christian beliefs) claim.

                      Irrelevant

Do not hesitate to open a new thread to discuss this issue.

                      Peace

Bro I?m not going to open new threads, I have enough to respond to if I even can do that with the help of Allah

But please don?t confuse the subject with another until we finalise the one in hand

                      Salam

I was just praying the Asr and while doing the Sijood, this fact has hit me that will prove how wrong you are regarding the word "Min" in the context of the verse above

you say that it can mean "Among" and I will agree but only if AMOUNG A PLURAL, i.e. "Min Al Nas", "Among the People"

you can't say Min to mean among then bloody use a Singular after it, it does not make any sense bro

see you can't say "Among a singular" but you can say "Among plural"

and becase the quran cleary told us that IT WAS ONE NAFS then to translate Minha as Amoing that Nafs will make a child crack laughing

                        I hope you get it

                        salam

                          Peace ahmed,

The first question one should ask is the following

Is the single nafs (God has created us out of which) referring to Adam ?

Of course, this is clear to a child from verse 230-34

I am sorry, Ahmed, but, for me, it is far from being evident.

Excuse me, here is the sequence again

                          1. Allah khalaqa Adam Min Soil
                          2. Allah Khalaqa his mate from Adam (Khalaq Minha Zawjiha), can you see that Minha is referring to a feminie?, that is because it is from the feminie soul of Adam, ?among the soul of adam? does not make any sense bro, it is just silly

No, it is because the gender of the word nafs is feminine.

Let?s break down the beginning of

                          Khalaqa = he has created
                          kum = you (plural)
min = from / out of / of the same nature as / among
                          nafsin = soul / person
                          wahidatin = single
wakhalaqa = and he has created
min = from / out of / of the same nature as / among
ha = her (refer to the nafs, feminine gender noun)
                          zawja = spouse / partner / mate / opposite / couple / pair
ha = of her (refer to the nafs, feminine gender noun)

                          For you, this sentence means
"he has created you from a single person (Adam) , and he has created from her (Adam) his spouse".

In that case, the woman has been created from the man.

                          For me, this sentence means
"he has created you from a single soul , and he has created, of the same nature as her (this soul) her mate".

In that case, the women and the man were both created from a single soul (nafsin wahidatin ? to me more properly defined).

Let?s search the Quran to see which of these 2 understandings is the best.

In the following verse, we learn that the nafs has been formed by God.

Consider the human self (nafsin), and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God!

As a consequence, we all are (men and as well as women) the product of a soul (nafs) formed by God.

The following verses explain us how the 2 elements of a couple have been created.

and that it is He who creates the two kinds ( alzzawjayni) - the male and the female - out of a drop of sperm as it is poured forth,

Was he not once a drop of sperm that had been spilt, and thereafter became a germ-cell - whereupon He created and formed in accordance with what was meant to be, and fashioned out of it the two sexes( alzzawjayni), the male and the female?

And Allah did create you from dust; then from a sperm-drop; then He made you in pairs ( azwajan).

In these 3 verses, it is clear that the man as well as the woman have been created in the same way (and not the latter out of the former). And then, they are made in couples.

                          The verse confirms it

He has created you out of one living entity, and out of it fashioned its mate ( zawjaha) ; and he has bestowed upon you four kinds of cattle of either sex (azwajin); He creates you in your mothers? wombs, one act of creation after another, in threefold depths of darkness. Thus is God, your Sustainer unto Him belongs all dominion there is no deity save Him how, then, can you lose sight of the truth?

We find in this verse nearly the same words as in . But furthermore, we learn that God has created the human being in the wombs of their mothers.

But the main teaching of these verses is that they, like the verse are not about the creation of some primary human being, but about the way we all (as human beings) are created from a drop of sperm, in the wombs of our mothers.

The following verses are interesting too, in the way they show us to what extent the principle of dualism is omnipresent in the quran, without that, at any place, one of the male element of the couple is said to be taking precedence over the female element (or the one created out of the other).

Limitless in His glory is He who has created opposites ( azwaja) in whatever the earth produces, and in men?s own selves, and in that of which they have no knowledge.

HE IT IS who has made the earth a cradle for you, and has traced out for you ways thereon," and sends down waters from the sky and by this means We bring forth various kinds (azwajan) of plants.

And He it is who has created all opposites ( azwaja)

Have they, then, never considered the earth - how much of every noble kind (zawjin) We have caused to grow thereon?

In these two will two kinds ( zawja) of every fruit be .

And it is He who has spread the earth wide and placed on it firm mountains and running waters, and created thereon two sexes (zawja) of every plant;' causes the night to cover the day.

And in everything have We created opposites ( zawja),

The same idea is found in the verse

The Originator of the heavens and the earth. He has given you mates (azwajan) of your own kind (min anfusikum) - just as among the beasts mates (azwajan) - to multiply you thereby there is nothing like unto Him, and He alone is all-hearing, all-seeing.

This verse shows that there is no difference between the beasts and the human beings, in that God has created us in the same way, in couples.

The plural of the word nafs in anfus ; so, anfusikum can be translated by "your souls", "your persons", "your people", "yourselves"....

As a reminder, min = from / out of / of the same nature as / among

What is then the meaning of min anfusikum in this verse ?

In this verse, God does not address specifically the human males. He is not saying to all human males that he has given them spouses out of themselves. This would be contradiction with the fact that that men and women are created, in the same way, from a drop a sperm in their mothers? wombs.
The truth is that God is addressing all human beings (men and women) ; and he his saying them that he has given them partners of the same nature as themselves (of the same species) ; or created out of themselves (from the sperm of their father and in the womb of their mother), or among themselves.
But nowhere (even in the bible) it has been mentioned that (symbolically or not) all women would have been created out of the men.

I will not comment the verses nor , because it is the same as in .

In the light of all that, my conclusion is that the right understanding of the first sentence of the verse is mine, even though, grammatically, both are possible.

                          For me, this sentence means
"he has created you from a single soul , and he has created, of the same nature as her (this soul) her mate".
                          Or
"he has created you from a single soul , and he has created, of like nature, his mate".

It is interesting to note, that, in the dictionary Al-Mufradat fi Gharib Al-Quran, one of the possible translations of nafsinwahidatin is "a sinfle life cell".
Thus, this expression may refer to the smallest cell defining the human being, which comes from the fecundation between the spermatozoid and the ovum. This may be what Asad means by the term "living entity".

                          God knows best

                          Peace

                            Brotyher JM

                            Bro

without going through all the above mostely manipulation, I want to pick on one clear cut manipulation by you and show everyone how the Quran will slam dank it

                            You say

                            For me, this sentence means

"he has created you from a single soul , and he has created, of the same nature as her (this soul) her mate".
                            Or
"he has created you from a single soul , and he has created, of like nature, his mate".

                            Ahmed says

I?m really glad that it is for you as many will recognise its flaw, let me confirm it

You added many words that does not exist in the verse

You added ?of the same nature as her? as = ?Minha?, while it can only mean ?Zawjiha? metaphorically, it seems you are confused here bro

                            We have two words

                            Minha, means ?from her?

                            Zawjiha means ?her mate?

I don?t know why you are mixing the two?

However let me surprise you sir and prove your Arabic ignorance

?of the same nature as her? or ?of like nature? does not really mean Zawjiha rather it means in Arabic ?Mithlaha? it looks in Arabic like this ? ? for feminine, ? ? ?Mithlahu? for masculine, and ? ?, for plural

there are many examples in the Quran what I brought to you are the ones that are associated with the creation, i.e. we will see the two words together ?khalaqa Mithla?, i.e. create of the same nature

Do they not consider that Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, is able to create their like, and He has appointed for them a doom about which there is no doubt? But the unjust do not consent to aught but denying.

                            (99)

Is not He Who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like of them? Yea! and He is the Creator (of all), the Knower

                            (81)

                            The like of which were not created in the (other) cities;

                            (

See, in the all the above we read that ?Create of the same nature? means ?Khlaqa Mithla?

Do we read this in 41?,

Of course not, we only read ?Khalqa Minha?

O mankind! Be careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate and from them twain hath spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be careful of your duty toward Allah in Whom ye claim (your rights) of one another, and toward the wombs (that bare you). Lo! Allah hath been a watcher over you.

                            (1)

It is obvious to the naked eye how you manipulated 41 and I have to tell you bro, Itqi Allah

                            Salam

                              Peace Ahmed,

"in the same nature", or "of the same kind" is one of the possible translations of the adverb min.

Anyway, the fact is that all you, me, or any human being, have been created from a single nafs, as well as our mate.
This single nafs is more likely to be the very essence of the human being, rather than Adam.

                              Peace

                              Excerpt
Min primarily has 2 functions in Arabic. It can be used for the English preposition ?from? to imply an extraction of a thing from other things. It can also be used to imply ?in the same nature as?.

You can read it online here http//www.amazon.fr/gp/reader/0195128362/ref=sib_dp_pt/171-9653627-5785045#reader-page

Obviously, Yusuf Ali and Shakir had knowledge of this possible meaning of min

(Yusuf Ali) O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore you) for Allah ever watches over you.

(Shakir) O people! be careful of (your duty to) your Lord, Who created you from a single being and created its mate of the same (kind) and spread from these two, many men and women; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, by Whom you demand one of another (your rights), and (to) the ties of relationship; surely Allah ever watches over you.

They call it the One conciousness, the universe is one conciousness and our conciousness is formed out of that conciousness. Everything in creation carries a little bit of that conciousness with them, even molecules. This conciousness gives them there form and function. When i read the above verse, i read this

(Shakir) O people! be careful of (your duty to) your Lord, Who created you(your Nafs) from a single Conciousness(the Quantum Conciousness) and created its mate of the same (kind)(other Nafs) and spread from these two(2 kinds of Nafs), many men and women; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, by Whom you demand one of another (your rights), and (to) the ties of relationship; surely Allah ever watches over you.

                                      Peace

                                        OK, I understand now.
But this is not exactly my interpretation.
