What happens when you question!

Hello Forum Users,
As you can see, I am new here. I've only discovered your site a few days ago. In fact, at the time, I was putting my faith in question. But before I go into what I believe the way I do and how I got to it, I just want to add one thing. I was skeptical when I saw this site. That should not be surprising because the internet is riddled with messages of lies, some blantant, others very well hidden. When I read some of the content, I can't say that I believe or understand it all. All in due time, I guess. But this concept of God-Alone is something I had been convinced of for some while now, so that's why I was able to view this site with a bit clarity. I now see that I'm not alone and that there are others like me on this board all in search of the TRUTH, and I hope that we are all guided by God into the righteous path.
I'm 25 year old, college educated, raised in North America and a woman. Since childhood, I've been going through the motions like a regular Sunni. My mother was devout, and had many fiqhs and tafseers in her library. She gave us Quran lessons to memorize and sessions in Hadeeth. Some where in my teenagehood, I was dealing with alot of things, and was lost for a bit. I rebelled, basically. I didnt understand why we had to be so different. Why women wore the hijab and men weren't. I was focused on women equality. I was given verses from the Hadeeth for explanation. I decided to stop wearing it at 19. My choice, as it should have been from the beginning. My family were into the whole Muslim convention lecture thing. I wasn't. It didnt' give me the answers I was looking for. They were for the already-convinced, and I was starting to have my doubts at the time. I stopped going to those. My family couldnt/wouldnt understand it.
At around 20, my mom was giving one of her lectures, when the question of scholars arose. I asked, why were there so many difference between them? Why do the Sunnis have to subscribe to only 4 scholars (Hanbali, Maliki, Shafici, and I forget the other one). Werent they just human. werent there other scholars? what about them? why did they close the door to Ijtihaad? And I will never forget what my mom said next. She said, you ask questions like the Jews used to bester the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). I was angry. I left the room. A couple of years later, I took a class in my undergrad taught by a muslim professor. He mentioned the controversy in the Hadeeth, and that something like 10% of muslims reject it, and are ostrocized by the other muslims. I remember asking him in private some extra questions I had. In the following years, I noticed alot of things. I noticed that people were justifying their actions through Hadeeth. I noticed that one of the first things that Sunnis cite are Hadeeth instead of the Quran. I noticed when I raised questions about the authenticity of the Hadeeth (referring to the history of the compilation), their first defense, without fail, is if we cant follow the Hadeeth, how will we know how to pray? their second defense, istagfurullah, is the Quran is not in detail and doesnt have everything in it. I've noticed that we are so consumed with rituals of our faith, we neglect to focus on the most important thing, GOD. Ive noticed that we raise our kids to learn the Quran in Arabic, and leave it up to them to learn WHAT it means. There are alot of contradictions that I wasnt pleased with. I almost gave it all up.
But I couldnt give up on God. I still believed in him. With fury, I had defended my stance against Hadeeth for its lack of infallability. I said, how can you say that the Word of God is not enough!! (this is before I found this site, by the way). Just who is this Bukhari person and why wasnt his Hadeeth mentioned in the Quran if we are to follow it? Why are there so many Haraams that cannot be justified by the Quran, if the Quran was brought for all people of all times and GUARANTEED Word of God? I began to think there was something wrong with me if I chose the Quran over the Hadeeth. But I don't anymore. I feel at peace. I feel less restricted and more able to follow what God has set down for me. I'm just thankful and hopeful that I can start my new journey in discovering exactly what this mysterious book contains. I hope I am following the right course, God willing.

6 months ago i went with my younger cousin to a quran study group
this was in morocco, it was like a sleepover at a large household for a couple of days, where we would recite the quran and the hadith of sahih bukhari and tell each other storys, and talk etc etc
anyway on the second night the group started getting into a debate and then i started to participate suddenly i commanded the attention of the room and of course i was talking about the contradictions between the hadith and the quran, after i finished there was total silence in the room, then 10-15 seconds later my cousin and a few other people shaked my hands and kissed me on either cheek. then we went into the other room and had mint tea.
It was a strange experience, but i made my cousin and a few others more aware, ever since i came to this country
ive learnt a growing atiitude that exists with many. A hush and move on quietly attitude, turn a blind eye, because the truth becomes Inconvieniant !!they have been following this for generations why change it now?? why question it?
Deena (1God4theBelievers) iam glad you made a stance, even against your own blood, at the end of the day the truth is most important, if not we jepordize everything !

We must always verify everything and everyone, right, remember?
Salam Bro,
This is true. Maybe I do this a little too much lately. I seem to be questioning everything. It's a full-time job. really. But I do believe God will help me through this, insha'Allah.

Salam bro onepath,
I understand everything you're saying. The truth is the most important. But I feel content knowing that it is less than a feet away from me ;D
It's weird because I was just talking to my sister tonight about this just to make her understand where I'm at with this issue, and that I would like her respect and confidence that Im doing my best to find my answers even though it is different from hers. She was pretty cool about it. I was telling her that now I'm in the middle of researching this path and that I need time to read the Quran fully before I openly talk about it with other people. Especially learned people. I need more time to prepare a better way to present my point of view I guess. All in due time.
