Muslim women Marrying Non-Muslims

Peace be with you
To understand the verses on marriage to non muslims we should not confuse the words mushrik, pagan and idolatress. Mushrik is setting up partners with Allah and according to Quraan majority of present day Christians and Jews fall in to this category. Also I believe people of the book are people who follow the revealed books not people with man made books.

Mushrik is setting up partners with Allah and according to Quraan majority of present day Christians and Jews *fall in to this category
- and muslims
Also I believe people of the book are people who follow the revealed books not people with man made books
At the time of the Quran the majority of christians and jews were already following man made books. God knew that; and muslims did not (yet), and God knew that as well, and knew that they will.
So let's take the verse as it is and not analyse who was or is doing what. Or at least treat each person according to their belief, and scan them for shirk. Then this labeling of christian, muslim, jewish, hindu... will be redundant.

Peace Samia and Bmbmm
If you carefully read NPs and Nadeems posts on top you will gather the subject of the thread. Mainly it is whether a muslim can marry a christian since Quraan allows marriage to
people of the book.In the rush to correct both of you are calling the Muslims as Mushriks? Submitting Mushriks?
The Quraan allows marrying from the people of the book but not mushrikeen/people who set up partners with Allah. We need to define these people with the help of the Quraan.
Also the Quraan labels Jews, Christians, Disbelievers, Munafiqs so I guess we can not make these labels redundant.
Also if you look closely both the majority and the minority are covered in the Quraan.

Both of you are calling the Muslims as Mushriks? Submitting Mushriks
The "muslims" I was talking about do not like to "translate" their "name". It's a name, not an attribute. Thus, I wont call them "submitting mushriks" but mushrik muslims.
They named themselves muslims, but God named those who are similar to Ibrahim "muslims". Islam of today is inherited your father was born in a "muslim" family, then you are a muslim. If you were not born in a muslim family and you convert to Islam, you should present, when required, a certificate of naturalzation...oops ...I mean of islamization
-
Salaam,
All that I want to know is
Am I correct when I say that Allah NEVER says that Muslims are forbiden to marry non-Muslims?
It is clear that Muslims cannot marry Murshriks..... am I correct when I say that Mushriks are pagans? (not simply those who may not be Muslims or Believers)
What if someone believes in one God> Are they are a pagan?

Peace be upon you NP
The word muslim is not used in the Quraan relating to this verse. It is referring to believers. (There is a great misunderstanding between muslim and mumin/believers among many including the FM main page article. I do not want to go in to that since it is another topic for discussion) To simplify matters and for the relevance of this thread lets say believers mean those who believe in Allah, messenger and the revelation.
The Quraanic law verses are very clear to which individual or group/s they are directed and it is important for us to understand the word mushrik and disbelievers.
Pagan is a wrong translation for mushrik. It is wrong to use pagan or idolatry/idol worshipper to describe mushrik or disbelievers as many translations do. A person who believes /serves one God is a monotheist. A person who believes/serves many Gods is a Polytheist. Polytheists and atheists are referred to as disbelievers in the Quraan along with anyone who reject God, messengers and the revelation. A believer or muslim( if we use the common description to describe believers of Gods last message) can not marry a disbeliever.
You are correct in saying a muslim can not marry a mushrik.
Mushrik is a person who sets up partners to God. To set up partners they must first believe in God. They believe in Allah but they add others to divinity in different levels and relationships. Setting up partnership can lead to disbelief.
Eg. Christian claim that Jesus messenger of Allah being God.
Also if someone while believing in Allah takes the priests or anyone as their lords they will be setting up partners to Allah.
Although we can not go ahead and call people mushriks other than the ones identified in the Quraan the following actions will be setting up partnership to Allah according to Quraan.( Although personally I would not call them mushriks because I do not have any authority and it is not my business)
Anyone while believing in Allah, the messenger and the revealed message takes priests and such as lords or follow commands contrary to the revelation and/or assumes that he/she needs intercessors, is setting up partners. Someone who believes in Allah but at the same time puts his trust in his wealth, property, children etc is setting up partners too. The list can be long. As long as a person serves anyone other than Allah according to what is revealed he/she is becoming a candidate to being a mushrik.
I hope you will have better understanding of the verses with the above explanation.
-
Salaam,
Thanks but honestly I am confused.
Say for instance I met a man who believed in one God and did not add any partners to him. Just believe in one God and no partners. At the same time though he did not believe in that the Prophet Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, etc were messengers. Is he a mushrik?

My 1st post
What in the world is a "non-muslim?"
You can guess about whether a person is actually good by their actions. If their actions are genuinly good, then they are followers of God. If they aren't good people, then there's no point in marrying them (unless they are very very old and very very rich). My reply to Boost
what does "submitter to God" mean, exactly? and what exactly is god?
I think if a person is a good person. He/she does good things for the right reasons, then he/she is a submitter to God.
Because what are the attributes of god mentioned in the quran? I think if a person displays those attributes, then he is serving god, isn't he? -
Peace be on you
I am not an expert to answer your question but I will try since this might lead to a discussion with many opinions from others.
I think believing that there is One God is not enough. A person has to believe in Allah as described in the Quraan. Personally I have not come across any other book which gives such a detailed and undiluted description of a Supreme God. The bible description we can not take because of the partnership issue among other things.
Although too numerous to quote we find many verses describing Allah directly and indirectly,
He is Allah the One, eternal absolute ?.
He is Allah Almighty Merciful
Lord of the Alamin
The creator, knower, the wise..
So if anyone believes in One God who does not have all this attributes to Him as described in the Quraan that does not describe ?The God?.
Another important factor is how did this hypothetical man you met come to conclude that there is One God ?

Hmmm im unsure on this one. We all know you are not allowed to marry pagans (unless you have no one else). Christians jews muslims, ok. Though whatever happens, children must be muslim in every case.
Heres where it involves your situation. You are a muslim WOMAN. the Quran forbids muslim WOMEN from marrying non muslim men, even christians/jews. This was because In the old times, Men usually had more authority over the family (not in that sense). Usually, what the man was, the children became. THe woman was a passive spouse. So the children wouldnt become the religion of the mother, usually. Today, is different. So I would say, if children are muslim, its ok. Allah/ god knows best.
-
the Quran forbids muslim WOMEN from marrying non muslim men,
Please quote the vrse that says so.
children must be muslim in every case.
Also, where did you get that from? Do you want to say muslim parents' children become automatically muslims, even if they change their religion, or know nothing about Islam? Is Islam a "nationality" or a gene to be inherited?
-
We have to DEFINE "Muslim", in order to know wether we can or cannot marry "Non Muslims'.
Salam.
Exactly, that's what i have been saying all the time here.
Muslim is a person who does this and that and then we eliminate what muslim isn't then we have all the muslims in frobnt of us and then we choose who to marry. For example, in Slovenia, there are 47.000 Muslims. All sunnis. But they don't pray, fast, The Quran is there to just collect dust and some don't even know they're sunnis, get it?
So.
Now we have to find all the Muslims who follow just The Quran.
In Slovenia, there are only 2 of them out of 47.000.
You do the math.Peace.

So you have 'judged' 46,998 people alen?
-
So you have 'judged' 46,998 people alen? o
Salam.
I'm not judging them.
I feel sad that they won't study The Quran by themselves but they rather say"Let's ask the imam."These sunnis could be all The Quran Alone Muslim if only they started reading The Quran on their own but i think the communism has washed their brains really good, sadly, yes, and who is gonna fix this problem here, who will tell them that they must not replace the prayer with work, fasting with alcohol and cigarettes, who will tell them that giving a child a muslim name will make sure this child enters the Paradise?
Who?
Who will convincve them?
Who can?If The Allah Almighty wanted them to follow The Quran alone, He Almighty would've done that. Allah Almighty only says"Be!" and it is.
I'm not judging my countrymen, i'm just saying they should study more and on their own. They earn money easy and i'm sure they could read The Quran a little more.
I 'm not a judge, i'm an observer.
What i see here.....scares me.Peace.

We choose who to marry??????
It sounds like there is a point someone has to reach to earn the right to choose which one to marry and is this reserved to males only???
Common Alen, what if the one you choose is the choice someone else wants and what if the one chosen does not like you but already likes and loves someone else??? Are you going to fight then? And the other things is that just because you see a person doing this and that that does not result in him/her being a muslim. Moreover, you cannot judge which one is muslim and which is not. This is reserved to God alone as far as I know.
Hope I got everything rightPeace brothers and sisters

FJSalam.
You misunderstood.
I didn't say anything about anyone being reserved.
All i'm saiyng is that today you can recognize the People of The Book, you can recognize the sunnis, you can even recognize atheists.
Then you decide who to marry, women choose their future husbands just like men choose their future wives.
How do you choose?
You observe the world around yourself. You asked" what if the one you choose is the choice someone else wants and what if the one chosen does not like you but already likes and loves someone else???"
Well, this has happened to me and i'm sure it happened to plenty of others. One thing is for sure there are more women then men, on Earth at all times, especially in the post war time, and that means that we, men, can never run out of women or say that we cannot find a soulmate, that's just .... illogical.
If all men got married today, there would still be single women out there. No offence to the ladies.
Hope i didn't offend anyone.Salam.

Being muslim to me is something you do and choose. People cannot make you as such nor are you one simply because you take some initiations.
Joe
I agree, but don't you think children should be raised muslims until they can decide for themselves? Then that brings up the question, when is the right time for them to make their decisions. Ugh brickwall
