Drinking the Quran

You know how religions (especially islam) work.
Say a few words, perform a few actions, and you either get magical powers or a free ticket to heaven. Unfortunately, reality doesn't work that way.
I'd rather read and understand the quran than drink it. I'm sure it'll taste horrible. -
This reminds me of the "holy Water" silliness wich the Catholics have. They get their priests to murmur prayers and verses from the bible over a basin of water, and they claim that this will make the water holy. They then fill small glass vials with the liquid, and spray it on the faithful to "bless" them. They also believe that if the "holy water" is splashed on a person possessed by a demon, the demon will be greatly weakened, thus facilitating an exorcism
The opposite is "unholy water" , which is prepared by priests of the opposite religion Devil Worship. It is made by murmuring blasphemies over a basin of water and then filling glass vials with it ( the vials ususally have a pentogram symbol or inverted cross etched on them ). If "unholy water" is splashed upon a person possessed by a demon , the demon will become even stronger. If spalsehd upon a faithfull person ( saint ) , it will burn him/her...
You believe any of that? ;D

I posted this as part of a post on another thread (it was off-topic). What do you think of this
A long time ago I found in my father's repository of books, a book written by Imam Shafi'i himself, with advice to believers on the proper ways to follow the faith.
There were some interesting advice on eating which some on macrobiotic diets will relate to (such as not mixing eating eggs with meat...)
Another peculiar advice also on healing, but also on purification from the devil is as follows - I quote from memory - "write on a piece of thin paper ayat AlQursi, and the last three surats of Quran, using soluble ink, take a glass full of pure water, put the paper that was written in the water and allow to dissolve fully, say bismillah and drink the water..."
This was advice in a book written by one of the foremost figure in the preservation of the Faith of Islam... By the way I followed that advice, at a time when I was not praying yet...
From a saudi I met in a mosque, when he travelled to Mecca, he brought me a few pages written with the saliva of imams from Macca, and he advised me do the same as Imam Shafi'i, so it can heal me...
So I ask you, honestly, what is this? Is it allowed?

Read Quran loudly over a glass of water, and give to drink to the afflicted individual ...Another one is using technologies available to us today, but it was used by some imams too
Nowadays, you can use the headphones of your mp3 player and just let them hover over the water of the glass until the wanted ayats have been read, then drink the purportedly quranically energised water ...For me, I had no idea then, I had tried quite few weird things before (some of them most probably satanic), but I was desperate to be healed, and pretty ignorant. In fact health is my achiles' heel, because this is how I repented with the fear of death (I was feeling very sick then).
Now can we drink the Quran (as described) and are there benefits, or is this a witch craft thing?
Now that even now, imam and alims in Mecca and other places still use it (let alone Imam Shafi'i), one has to wonder...

According to chap 17 verse 82
And We send down from the Quran what is a healing and mercy to the believers. And it only increases the wicked in their loss.
OR
We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss
Therefore from the above interpretations what can be said is this
- that the Quran is a healing and mercy to the believers
- A loss to to the unjust or wicked
So which one are u?

i've heard somalians have a tradition like this where the imam or whoever is reading the qur'an spits in water and the person drinks it. thinking like this is mental MENTAL SLAVERY! first of all, all water is "holy" so to speak. the God has blessed us with water to quench our thirst...this is the true blessing. the God revives the dry land after a rainfall...this is the true blessing. the God has made the various channels and the oceans to sustain aquatic life, this is the true blessing.
what matters is your faith, dedication and belief...your striving in the cause of God, not absurd rituals.

The Quran is a mercy to us, it is a way for us, The Quran shows us the way to Heaven.
You can carry Quran, you can keep it close to your bed when you sleep, you can keep it on the table while you eat, the thing that will get you into Paradise, is following it, you have to live according to The Quran.Peace. jedi

First of all I'm averse to drinking people's spit. Sometimes I'm averse to my own spit. If I've got spittle on my mouth or rub it on the back of my hand after rubbing it off of my lips than I find that sort of repulsive.
I'm not sure of the quran being a cure for physical ailments. In my opinion it heals our dispositions for when we are in the wrong we only hurt ourselves.

I believe in the power of the word and the energy that it transmits. There are numerous studies of the effects of classical music versus death metal music on plants. Even if you don't wanna get into the vibrational value of words, at a very simple basic level we all know that words have the power to calm, anger, please etc. Many words were invented by how an object feels.
Like kuH = cough in arabic ... kinda sounds like it doesn't it...So it is more than just words on a paper. I believe just saying actual words have a calming effect. And I also believe that that energy that I just exherted when I say the God's words of peace can be transmitted into things around me.
Now the spit thing i'm not too sure about but hey to each his own ;D

I've read Emoto's books. They are quite interesting. That, in addition to the fact that in his latest series of experiments with water, he has chosen to use the 99 attributes of Allah. He (not a muslim) found the results so interesting and beautiful, that he is making a book of nothing but the pictures of the crystals that formed in water after coming in contact with each of the 99 attributes....

Yea i'm all about Emoto !
I've also read various studies over the internet of plants who are subjected to death metal versus classical and the latter seemed to grow faster healthier stronger )
Of course plants don't have ears so it's the vibration value of the music that makes the difference.
Emoto has done the same water test with different music and prayers too i believe... pretty cool stuff
Let us know your results if you ever try it! the experiment seems too complicated for me and i've never been good with microscopes hehehe
I'm gonna try and get a hold of some of the stuff i've read over the years and post them here ... i remember reading one specifically about the Fatiha ! it was pretty darn cool
i mean i think at a very personal level we've all experienced reading a passage from the quran and feeling a sense of enormous peace OR going into a room that two people were just fighting in and feeling a bad feeling or tension in your body. and water is a good energy transmitter so this is why i believe there is alot of truth to that. but its not just words being said there must be that deep concentration and intention and good energy being poured into the utterances of the word too. group
Anyways, i'll post some stuff up as soon as i can ...which might be awhile because im trying to cram torts into my wee lil head right now lol D

There is no Qur'anic basis for such superstitious acts. The Qur'an has been revealed to be read/learned and understood. Its purpose is not so that it can be drunk or be blown over a glass of water for special healing powers.
These acts come not from a knowledge and understanding of the Qur'an, rather an ignorance thereof.

Interesting topic, kinda agree with you ace but i dont see a problem with experimenting to learn as much as we can about subjects
Boost, I just wanted to ask you, are you in law school, you said your studying torts. I just started law school myself and am taking torts, just curious.
