    Greetings and peace be with you, my dear brothers and sisters in submission to the one and only creator;

I am a 19 yr old Indian Pathan. Allah (swt) has gifted me with Asperger syndrome, the same neurobiological condition (it is the mildest form of autism, so mild that it is nearly undiagnosable) many famous people such as Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, and Charles Darwin have been suspected to have. You can read more about it here. I am 19 years old. I am a former atheist who reverted to the Sunni religion a year ago. (I was born Muslim, however, many factors lead to me being an atheist, the main which is given below)

My areas of interest circle around religions, history, politics, demography, anthropology, political geography, linguistics, and anything related. I speak fluent English (my family is anglophone), moderate Urdu/Hindi, and basic conversational French. I love watching Anime and Wuxia.

I am currently doing a graduate course (2nd year) on Mass Communication, Political Science, and Linguistics (English, French, Conversational English - mainly regarding the study of the alphabet, dialects, grammatical structure, etc).

How I came to God alone is a simple story, and is the main reason I left the Hanafi madhab in the first place. Stoning. I refused to believe that it's a part of God's perfect religion. I searched and searched, and discovered about following God alone, which eventually led me to free minds.

It's been about two weeks since I've been following true Islam. Jazakallah khair to everyone, especially Mr Yuksel (his "19 questions for Muslim scholars" was what finally made my decision), for their contributions which led to my enlightenment.

    Peace.

I like Jeffrey Lang and Yusuf Estes...

... Never ever liked Naik or Deedat. I find their debates with Non-Muslims to be inflammatory and unfair, especially when you consider that most of the debates take place in front of a Muslim audience than seem determined to clap after every single phrase from the mouth of Deedat/ Naik.

                ... But that's just me. )

                  Welcome.

I'm sorry if this doesn't sound like the warmest welcome, but, please, an intelligent man, does not suffer a syndrome. This is what Satan uses, in his animal world, to make them seem less, and make him seem bigger. They had a syndrom haha, they were idiots. Boosts the ego of the satan. That makes him the bigger beast, more worthy of attention. These kinds of claims do not belong in Islam. Albert Einstein was even a man of faith, so you could consider it being satan, trying to lessen the status of a believeing brother.

                    Greetings and thanks, Mr Deen.

Asperger syndrome is just a name (named after Dr Hans Asperger), it is not at all a bad thing. We just happen to be excellent at what we are interested in, while we happen to be terrible at socialising (extreme shyness, inability to communicate in a group), we have little or no facial expressions (and most of us can't read facial expressions), we find making eye contact difficult, and are a little clumsy at times. We also have repetitive and restricted movements. Asperger syndrome is basically just a very very mild form of autism, although some disagree. Our brains, however, are a bit different (example check information regarding Einstein's brain) from neurotypicals (normal folks), hence, it is considered a disorder. There many other such small disorders, such as tourette syndrome (which again coexists with Asperger syndrome in most men who have it but rarely in women), it just implies tics and flaps when not in motion.

While most people with Kanner's autism desire a "cure", most Aspies (that's what we call ourselves) don't desire a cure. It's understandable, as Autism is extreme while Asperger's is extremely mild.

@saaretjie I like Yusuf Estes too! His story of converting to Islam was quite hilarious! Haven't seen any video of Dr Jefferey Lang though, as yet. )

                    Peace.

I have one question to ask. Did you get diagnosed by a psychiatrist, or did you self diagnose using one of the tests on the internet? It's pretty common for some people, to get 'very likely aspie' scores when they are in their teens and 'very likely neurotypical' scores when they are adults.
                        Just my two cents.

Greetings and peace be with you Sarah,

I live next to a hospital for mental disorders. It's supposed to be Andhra Pradesh's (my state) #1 such hospital, and has many good psychologists. I don't trust psychiatrists or any allopathic doctor, I've always been given some terrible drugs by them. The most common prescriptions for Aspies and Auties are Risperdal and Cipralex, which have dozens of side effects, including PSSD. I'm not looking forward to getting impotent before I get married.

I am a big supporter of naturopathy (especially candida albicans research) & homeopathy.

                          Peace.

                            Peace Mr. Khan,

I was not asking about that. It's just that, in recent years, a lot of people think it's cool to be an aspie when they actually don't suffer from Asperger's, they are just a bit socially awkward, but become well adjusted by the time they reach adulthood. That's why I was asking.

                            Thanks,

                            Sarah

                                  Peace Maria,

Yes, you are right, my parents continue to have a dim view of Asperger's, refusing to believe "there's something wrong with me". I recall a study which asserted that 20-25% of the world's population has a neurobiological disorder, mental illness, or mental disorder, but most remain undiagnosed due to the most prevalent neurobiological disorders such as dyspraxia (mild) being difficult to identify, as in the case of Asperger syndrome. For instance, there are two guys in my class who have mild dyspraxia and never realised it... two others have ADHD and never got diagnosed. Another has OCD. I haven't noticed differences in anyone else, except that the three Tanzanian guys and two others are introverts (but have no signs of AS). There are 30 people in my class, however, 5 of them rarely show up.

                                  EDIT

According to todays newspaper, in the past year, 1 our of 10 children born in my state were on the Autism spectrum.

                                  Peace.

It may very well be that aspergers syndrome is real. But be really sure that you have it, before any eventual medification. I have seen satan try and tag this on normal people. And autism, and syndromes in general. Their reasoning seems to be, if you are not wordly (in the religious sense) you are ill. (no religiousity allowed.)

                                          Peace Mr Deen,

From my knowledge, 20-25% of individuals have some kind of neurobiological disorder, over 95% are undiagnosed as they are mild. I have already mentioned this earlier. You might have a neurobiological disorder too, without realising it.

No medication works when it comes to Autism and Asperger syndrome. The most common medication is Risperdal (an anti-psychotic), which has terrible side effects like PSSD, and shows virtually no results except temporarily halt stimming. Instead, naturopathy has shown better results, the gluten-free casein-free diet is apparently very good. However, I have no desire to follow this diet as I love dairy products, especially cheese. P

The main things that make me stand out from people are

                                          a) I am a complete introvert
                                          b) I have a problem introducing myself to new people
                                          c) I can't socialise in a group, only one on one with people I've known for a very long time, same awkwardness with new folks
                                          d) I flap my fingers a lot
                                          e) Lack of eye contact.

                                          That's it.

And yes, I have been diagnosed, as I mentioned earlier. Luckily, the psychologists at this place are very good, the most common misdiagnosis for AS are schizoid personality disorder and paranoid schizophrenia, which show a few similar symptoms (mainly lack of social activity), however, they are completely unrelated. Recent studies show a link between epilepsy and autism, however.

                                          Peace.
