    Peace,

-please, a question related to the last part of 4.34

    "if they obey you"

is the quran including obedience (and its corresponding 'ordering') into the husband/wife relationship?

-another question related to the first part

    "spend their money"

so, if both contribute working and earning for the family needs, or the wife contributes more, that degree 'over another' desappears, right?

    Idolfree, peace,

I don't understand well the application of the male/female principle to the quran addressing men. Could you say in other words, please?

      Salam All,

      well said Layth !

And as for Elena What you say seems logical to me and as situations evole the rules do as well. As said Marie, the womens situation, at least in our "developed" countries, is alhamdullelah, not the same as the one 1400 years ago in Arabia.

And anyway - concerning "obeying" Obey only the righteous orders and they needn't be orders anymore but just the logical thing to do if the couple is "mature" and discusses matters...

        Peace Elena, all,

        Peace,

-please, a question related to the last part of 4.34

        "if they obey you"

is the quran including obedience (and its corresponding 'ordering') into the husband/wife relationship?

"fa-in ataAAnakum / If they pay heed to you" is connected to "waallatee takhafoonanushoozahunna / As for those women from whom you fear a desertion", after this "advise them, and abandon them in the bedchamber, and separate from them", if she changes her position concerning the desertion.
If she doesn't change her position, and if you fear a split between them, then send a judge from his family and a judge from hers. (435).

-another question related to the first part

        "spend their money"

so, if both contribute working and earning for the family needs, or the wife contributes more, that degree 'over another' desappears, right?

        Exactly!

This is the case of many families currently

For the men is a portion of what they gained, and for the women is a portion of what they gained.(432)

        1. And to each will be degrees according to what they did, and He will recompense them and they will not be wronged.

        Hope that helps

        Marie

I am talking about the positive and negative energies in all things. I will elaborate upon that soon, unless the God wills otherwise.

this came to my mind today while I was reading the application of those principles in your post at Solomon thread. Just bringing to your attention so that you tell us when you have elaborated it. )

Peace be upon you Sister Elena,

I can explain it better by relating it to the chinese understanding of the same principles which they call Yin(fem) and Yang(masc).

I had some notes that I was going to use to explain this because I did not forget your question, but I left them home. I want to be clear when I try to explain this, so please give me one more day. D

Just a suggestion, But I think it will help a great deal if you take into consideration the natural roles of males and females.

                    That is our natural instincts.

As men it is our natural instinct to be dominant, leaders, hunters.

                      I disagree!

To dominate, to lead and to hunt are aspects of the human nature. As survival tools, males and famels are born equipped equally with them. The only difference is that males have different weapons than females

Taj, I can understand your defensive position on this because of the abuse men have done to women. But while we are making our path back to the God, we have to leave all the baggage aside.

Please explain the roles of Testosterone and Estrogen, while BOTH male and female have these hormones, men have more testosterone while women have more estrogen, why is that?

                        Which gender is physically stronger?

This is not about BETTER, it is about ORDER. On your job, do you consider your boss/supervisor as better than you because of the ORDER?

"WE" have to? or are you asking women have to?

                            We means we sister.

First off, I think "baggage" itself is a cheap word used to describe centuries of and continuing abuse. The right word is "justice". Forgive but NEVER forget. Heck, don't forgive and don't forget.

Hmmm, somehow not forgiving seems to go against the reading(quran). Please regain your PEACE sister. You have no enemy in me. I am only trying to reason. If you only knew how much I was on your "side", but we cannot overlook ORDER.

The only people who haven't left their "baggage" aside are those who in one way/other still continue to insists the belief that they are superior like the title of this thread says

Both sides have baggage. Men are not superior than women, each have diferent strengths for different purposes.

Who has what doesn't got anything to do with anything. The matter of fact is respect and justice which clearly some tyrants still believe belongs soley to them.

Yes, but we will deal with that problem seperately. Right now we were talking about order and the statement was made that women are equal to men in the act of hunting. While thre are women who have developed thierselves to be BETTER, they most likely have hurt themselves in another area.

If anyone agrees, then I will bring up the topic of testosterone and estrogen once again.

I don't consider a man my boss and if that's what being implied then my answer in the previous post as your end theme being men = superior than women is accurate.

I leave you in Peace, let me know when you are finished trying to make me say other than what I have said. I was using a simple example which you took in the totally wrong manner. Lets say your boss was female, please re read the example and use FEMALE boss, that should help you understand my example.

                                  Peace be upon you,

my dictionary says that 'testosterone' comes from Greek 'stereos' = 'vigorous', and 'estrogen' comes from Greek 'gennos' = origin, birth.

Just using Etymology as a start.

Couldn't it be that the usual roles have been taught, insisted, and learnt?

                                          Peace Dell1,

I see zenje beat me to it, but please do'nt let this kind of stuff bother you, like a wise individual hint hint once told me when i went through the same thing ...ignore the individual with whom you don't have fruitful discussions...but do stay around...there is much to learn and discuss! Don't let it be an issue...

                                          Nadia
