TheoMeter or SectoMeter for Muslims (45 Questions)
-
Hmm, I scored 76%. Some of the 'correct answers' seem biased to your own understanding, Bro Edip. Just to let you know.
-
Thank you for the feedback.
I will randomize the options.
I will provide some explanation.. Though there is the challenge of keeping them concise...
I will check the inconsistency in the numbers
I would like to know which questions you had problems with. And happy and blessed new year!
Peace,
Edip -
Thanks for the quiz, Edip
While answering, I had a problem with questions 6, 14, 25, 35 and 39
6 You seem to twist the answer to (C) so that code 19 is included. I skipped this question because I would have put C (my only option) without the code.
14 Although I correctly replied, I do not think we are asked to (bear witness) or testify) that there's no God but God. God states that He is the Lord of all people. Who are we testifying to? Who is uninformed and needs this information? Why are we obliged to testify to this uninformed person?
25 The question Is polygamy with previously unmarried women allowed? I knew you wanted the answer (No) and I put (Yes). What about a non wed woman with a child? I think this is what's meant by (yateem) in this verse (well, yateem is a fatherless child and a child whose father/mother is dead), but I believe that a child of unknown father is much more vulnerable than an orphan, and it's this child that needs a father and it's the only thing he/she needs, even if he/she has a lot of wealth. So, the command of (marrying the singles) could only be waived under very dire circusatances (of which I do not thik an orphan is one). An orphan, at worst, is poor, and even then they are not poorer than the other children of poor families or of a disabled bread winner.
35 About prohibited food If a sheep is being operated on and by mistake its throat was cut, is this a carcas? I think that any animal not killed for the purpose of being eaten is not lawful, and any animal killed for the purpose of being eaten is lawfull, no matter how it was killed. (and I got this one wrong, of course).
39 Although I got this one right, I have a problem with the question (After following the advice of Moses, did Muhammad, bargain with God about the number of prayers, lowering down from the impossible-to-observe 50 times a day to 5 times a day?). Is the question based on the assumption that Muhammad DID meet Moses? Sayingg "After following the advice of Moses" indicates that this story is true.
But the question I got wrong by misreading/misunderstanding the question was number one. So I scored 39 (87%).

Thanks for the quiz, Edip
While answering, I had a problem with questions 6, 14, 25, 35 and 39Thank you Samia for taking the Quiz and giving feedback.
6 You seem to twist the answer to (C) so that code 19 is included. I skipped this question because I would have put C (my only option) without the code.
Perhaps you are right. Then, can you help me modify the answers so that people like you could have been accommodated with another wrong answer !?
14 Although I correctly replied, I do not think we are asked to (bear witness) or testify) that there's no God but God. God states that He is the Lord of all people. Who are we testifying to? Who is uninformed and needs this information? Why are we obliged to testify to this uninformed person?
Please read verse 318. The witnessing is primarily personal, intellectual.
Interesting... I need to look at the question...
35 About prohibited food If a sheep is being operated on and by mistake its throat was cut, is this a carcas? I think that any animal not killed for the purpose of being eaten is not lawful, and any animal killed for the purpose of being eaten is lawfull, no matter how it was killed. Well, I respect your understanding. Personally, I looked at it as a matter of health. A dead animal in the middle of the forest is risk to health.
Very good point. I will reword the question and start it with "allegedly".
But the question I got wrong by misreading/misunderstanding the question was number one. So I scored 39 (87%).
That is better than Sunnies and Shiites combined But, you need to work on counting your fingers correctly. You would at least get 40 of them correctly, which would put you at 90%)
You gat a B+, but because of your constructive criticism, you are going to get an A sun

hypnoSalaams,
Then, you have a chance of even getting 100% on the test. Being a "five timer, e.t.c" usually works against the the takers of this test.
You see, Samia got very high scores. If it were not the residues of her old religious/sectarian upbringing she could easily get all right. As I told her, if she makes peace with numbers (both intellectually and emotionally), then she would not miss at least one of them.
So, go and take it and let us know what score you got.
PS I am going to make a test for Jews and Christians too.
Peace,

mohammed nohDear Mohammed
Perhaps your misfortune had started running the odometer long time before you met the theometer. But, I do not believe that you are serious. If you are serious, then give us examples of what answer choices were missing?
Can you gives us several examples please? Otherwise, you will be classified among those who are called R & Z by the Q.
Edip
-
salaam edip,
i beg your pardon, but what is 'odometer'?
btw, i have no interest in your labelling. really. it matters not. and in the Qur'an, of which you know very well, we are warned against giving labels to people. what does r&z stand for anyway?
since you asked me to provide examples, i took the liberty of c&p-ing the first 10 questions.
i hope you understand my misfortune.

- According to the Quran, which one of these is not and cannot be idolized by people? (1 point)
Reasoning (Aql)
Prophet Muhammad
Crowds or peers
Ancestors or children
Desires or Wishful thinking (Hawa)mn all. no choice. some people, without realizing, idolize their minds, and intelligence, coming up with understandings, ideas and theories, based strictly on their formal education. little do they realize that their mental capabilities are limited by their formal education. for example, the very idea of asking God to clarify the meaning of some words and phrases in the Qur'an is deemed illogical by formal education. but the fact remains; that was how 'ahl kitab' (those in the familiar of the message) received the messages - (directly, or indirectly) from God. it is an attitude.
- Which one of these is a true statement? (1 point)
The Quran is not sufficient to guide us; in addition we need Hadith and Sunna.
The Quran is not sufficient to guide us; we need Hadith, Sunna and follow the teaching of a Shiite sect.
The Quran is sufficient to guide us when we understand and follow it through the light of reason.
The Quran is not sufficient to guide us; we need Hadith, Sunna, follow the teaching of a sect and join a religious order.
The Quran is not sufficient to guide us; we need Hadith, Sunna and follow the teaching of a Sunni sect.mn the Qur'an is the guide received by muhammad the 'nabiy'. it was for him and the people of his era, and also after him. if during the time of muhammad the 'nabiy' someone in the north pole did not hear the message brought by him, was that person considered to be a non-believer? what was his status before God? any suggestion?
- Which one of these hadiths narrated by Bukhari, Muslim and other "authentic" hadith books, do you think are fabricated (1 point)
Muhammad was illiterate until he died.
Muhammad married Aisha at age 54 while she was only 9 or 13 years-old.
Muhammad dispatched a gang of fighters (sariyya) to kill a woman poet secretly during night in her home, for criticizing him publicly through her poems.
Muhammad slaughtered 400 to 900 Jews belonging to Ben Qurayza for violating the treaty.
All of the above.mn i don't read 'hadiths' other than the Qur'an. i don't know. what choice do i have here?
- Which one of these laws or rules does not exist in the Quran? (1 point)
Stone the married adulterers to death
Do not play guitar
Men should not wear silk and gold
Men are superior to women
All of the abovemn are the 4 rules in effect anywhere?
- The Quran instructs us to follow the messengers. Following the messenger means (1 point)
Follow Muhammad.
Follow Hadith and Sunna; Buhari, Muslim, Ibn Hanbal, etc.
Follow hadith, sunna, consensus of sahaba, ijtihad of imams and fatwas of ulama.
Follow the message he was sent with, which was Quran alone.
Follow his Ahl-i Bayt.mn all messengers bring messages of good news and warnings, but the 'muhammad' in each and everyone of us is the one to follow, since 'ati/ullah wa ati/urrasool'. i don't have to follow muhammad the 'nabiy' though, or else i would be marrying a 40 year old widow by the age of 25, among others. but i am trying to follow muhammad the 'rasool' though, the one in him, in you and in me. regarding the 'rusool' before me, they provide great examples and subjects for ponderment, leads to follow.
- The Quran is God's word, because (1 point)
The Quranic signs (aya) do not have internal contradiction nor does it contradict the signs in nature. Besides, it is numerically coded book with an extraordinary mathematical structure integrated with its composition and Arabic language.
The moral teaching of the Quran is the best for individual and humanity.
I do not need to have a reason. Reason is not reliable. I have faith in the Quran.
There are verses of the Quran stating that it is God's word.
The Quran is a literary miracle. None can bring a sura like it surpassing its literary qualities.mn where is this question coming from. the Qur'an was 'uttered' by muhammad the 'nabiy' not sent down in a book form or 'suhoof'. on the other hand, God has been sending people signs or signals (ayat), but most are oblivious.
- Which one of the following is correct for Muhammad (1 point)
Muhammad was final messenger and prophet.
Muhammad had the highest rank above all humans.
Muhammad demonstrated many miracles such as splitting the moon, healing the sick, and crippling a child
All of the above?
Muhammad was a human messenger like other messengers.mn read my posts regarding muhammad.
- In what year he Bukhari started collecting hadith for his hadith collection known as the Sahih Bukhari, the most trusted Sunni hadith collection? (1 point)
During the life of Muhammad in Medina
Ten years after Muhammad's death.
130 years after Muhammad's death.
200 years after Muhammad's death
230 years after Muhammad's death.mn again, i don't read 'hadith' other than the Qur'an. what do i know about those 'hadith'?
- According to Bukhari himself, he collected the 7,275 hadith among the 700,000 hadiths he collected. If each hadith, together with its isnad (the chain of reporters) and sanad (the text that was attributed to Muhammad) took about half a book page, how many volumes of books with 500 pages would they take to record all those 700,000 hadith allegedly collected by Bukhari? (1 point)
7 volumes
10 volumes
70 volumes
100 volumes
700 volumesmn ...
- What are the last statements in the Farewell Sermon (Khutba al-Wada) which was reportedly witnessed by more than 100,000 sahaba, making it by far the most authentic hadith among the thousands of hadiths? (1 point)
I leave you the Quran, you should follow it.
I leave you Abu Bakr; you should follow him.
I leave you the Quran and Ahl-i Bayt (my family); you should follow them.
I leave you my sahaba; you may follow any of them.
I leave you the Quran and Sunna; you should follow both.mn again, i don't read 'hadith' other than the Qur'an. do you think i should read this 'sermon' that you have mentioned?

Salam edip,
Nice job
I scored 100%, however, there is 1 questions that needs fixing as it is not correct.
- Are there more dietary prohibitions besides pork, carcass, running blood, and animal dedicated to idolized names?
? Yes
? No (correct answer, your response)The correct answer includes more prohibitions as per 53
53 Forbidden to you is that which is already dead, and the blood, and the meat of pig, and what was sacrificed to other than God, and that
which has been strangled, and that which has been beaten to death, and that which has fallen from a height, and that which has been gored, and
that which the wild animals have eaten from except what you managed to rescue, and what has been slaughtered on alters, and what you divide
by the arrows of chance. This is all vile. Today the rejecters have given up from your system, so do not fear them, but fear Me. Today I have
perfected your system for you, and completed My blessings upon you, and I have accepted submission as the system for you. So, whoever is forced
by severe hunger and not seeking sin, then God is Forgiving, Merciful. -
This is anther question I got wrong, simply because I did not know the answer ( I answered C)
8. In what year has Bukhari started collecting hadith for his hadith collection known as the Sahih Bukhari, the most trusted Sunni hadith collection?
Is it necessary to know exactly when? Periods of time maybe better than specific number of years.
(And there's a typo he instead of has). And in general, I tend to agree with Joe Betik knowing material about hadith should be negatively credited not positively, because the more you know hadith, the more probable that it taunts your understanding, just like the decision to remove two verses of the qur'aan If a hadith about them was not already known, why were these two veses specifically chosen?
