    Salaams All,

SO MUSLIMS DOING WUDU AT THE BEGINNING DIDN?T USED TO HAVE SOAP AND DIDN?T DRY THEIR HANDS NEITHER- THUS AFTER GOING TO TOILET- PASSING GERMS TO THEIR HEAD MOUTH NOSE FEET ARMS IN THE CAUSE OF WUDU AND GOD KNOWS WHO ELSE!

Studies have shown that washing with water alone removes no bacteria whatsoever.

    http//www.health.uab.edu/17728/

    Hands to food
Usually germs are transmitted from unclean hands to food by an infected food preparer who didn?t wash his or her hands after using the toilet.

    http//www.health.state.mn.us/handhygiene/why/5ways.html

Poor hygiene practices mean that millions of people are harbouring germs because they haven't washed and dried their hands after using the toilet. Wet hands pick up more germs than dry ones, and transfer them more readily, so drying hands is just as important as washing them with soap and hot water.

Washing with ordinary soap removes 95% of the bacteria on the hands

    God Bless All.

      Peace Simple,

I understand your point of view to an extent, but it seems like it's based on the notion that the purpose of ablution ("wudhu&quot is for cleanliness (i.e. cleaning our bodily parts), which I think it NOT the case at all. If this was simply the issue, then submitters would be instructed to bathe or shower before salaat observances... Instead, we are told to perform "wudhu" as a ritual act of spiritual purity and obedience prior to prayer/salaat, which is a totally different concept... Every submitter should bathe and strive to remain clean ALL THE TIME, not just before prayer. We shouldn't rely upon "wudhu" to actually cleanse us of physical dirt and filth. Therefore, in my opinion, NO, ablution is absolutely not harmful to our health at all. Failure to properly clean ourselves IS harmful, though...

      Peace,

      Ahmad

Yes wudhu or wudu I don't know I see it spelled both ways, is for spiritual cleaning, it's not suppose to be a subsitute for washing your hands.

Even this day and age you will find no soap in some Msjids. hmm

          It is very dangerous-sometimes though.

Once i went to saudi arabia, years ago, and on my way from Mecca to Medina the coach stopped for people for Isha (i think) and we looked for a toilet we found it a a little hut the water was there but no soap of any kind and the shop was shot, i did wudu but did wash my hands with water and tried using sand to clean my hands and washing them again. Funny thing was i got food poisoning in medina, vomitting , Diarrhoea the lot and never new the cause until now- i think.

          God Bless All.

            hi.

actually i would like to learn about the spiritual cleaning / spiritual purity (maybe in relation with "...God does not want to make
any hardship over you, but He wants to cleanse you and to complete His blessings upon you that you may be appreciative..." in 56)

            how does this happen?

can AB / RT or anyone explain it or show me some resource?

            thanks...

              Salaams mavera,

              i believe it is by getting the right answers from those with the apropriate knowledge and or experience;

56 using The quran, lanes and the quranic dictionary.

O you who believe when you take to counsel then cleanse your-selves/actions and your earnings till the thing by which you gain benefit/services you provide holds back from doing evil with a firm setting and your people till they do likewise and when you are under an obligation/in sin then purify yourself and if you are morally sick or trying to find out or has come one of you from the vying/ contending with one another or you not been able to have contact with women and not you find essence then look for the learned, ascended, good
And you wipe your-selves/actions and your earnings from it does not want Allah to lay upon you any hardship but He wants to purify you and to complete His favour upon you so that you may give thanks.

              I do believe this to be much more nearer the truth then the older translation;

              God Bless.

Here's an article I found pretty interesting on the topic of ablution ("wudhu&quot and it's purpose
                http//www.quran-islam.org/115.html

It gives some very good information, based on the Qur'aan, detailing some of the possible reasons we are commanded to observe ablution prior to salaat, and it explains why cleanliness is most likely NOT the reason behind it. Check it out, and G-d knows best...

                Peace,

I can't believe some people, but i think the fingers that where on the Arse and then in your nose a few minuites later is enough to put wudu out of my mind , knowing what these bacteria will do to my health when we don't have soap or something like it. And just think when Islam was established ......there wasn't any soap or was there.

hello Ahmad, thanks for the link.

regarding the arguments on that article,

                    • over doing of the ablution by other Muslims - it is not important, "others" do not create rule, i will continue following Quran, 4 steps mentioned. ok, obvious.

                    • " the purpose of ablution cannot be primarily for physical cleanliness." - i think ablution works for a physical refreshment leading to a better thinking, sharper mind rather than a complete physical cleanliness. ok, still can accept "both physical & spiritual" argument.

                    • "Ablution is nothing more than a simple command from God to test our obedience." - my own experience suggests that ablution supply physical refreshment, (indirectly) enhancing the concentration of the person which is necessary during salat, therefore has a functional aspect. but ok, this can go with the "test" argument, when one performs ablution anyway. 'taharah' explanation supports spiritual aspect, ok.

performing ablution as simple as Quran tells, the following question comes to my mind this time

taking the four special occations in the ayath as the situations that break the ablution (you may disagree, i do not focus on this part), consider i had performed ablution when leaving home in the morning, not in those special occations, a couple of hours later wanted to perform mid-day salat (i do not focus on if there is), snowing outside, now, are you suggesting that i should take off my coat, socks, apply simple steps Quran tells because it is a test of faith, or consider still preserve ablution and go for the salat?

I would have said is wudu a must for an astronaut, or a person climbing mnt everest or someone living on the south pole?

                        Peace,

What's wrong with performing "wudhu" under these circumstances, as long as you have the necessary materials to perform it? The Qur'aan gives all the details concerning this practice. As long as we are comfortably capable of performing "wudhu", we should be performing it. Other factors (such as travel) are taken into account and explained in the scriptures, when "wudhu" is not advised or commanded. This is more proof that it is moreso a test of our obedience, rather than a ritual of physical cleanliness.

                        Peace,

                        Ahmad

                          Salaams Ahmed,

a person climbing mnt everest will freez his balls off and other things- it is so cold. every time they break their wudu they must do it again for salaat!!!!!!!!

And doing wudu without using soap can be most dangerouse to health-as you start on your face and things with wet hands.

                          Now isn't that enough?

                          God Bless.

                            hi.

simple has a sharper point, i was addressing an everday situation.

"AB - What's wrong with performing "wudhu" under these circumstances, .." well i am not sure to call it wrong, but the answer to this topic's title (question) moves to 'yes' territory in my mind.

(therefore) sometimes i may prefer to consider ablution as not broken, depending on the circumstances, thinking Quran is not against it.

In most mosques there is ample running water for people to wash their hands after sorting out the back passage. The thing I have an issue is when people are told it is better not to dry yourself after performing wudhu as that is the preferred technique. Might be fine in Saudi when it's 50 degrees C outside, but certainly not in Birmingham where its usually 10 degrees. Pretty cold and takes longer for you to dry. When I was in Pakistan, you didn't need to dry yourself, the heat did that for you!

                                      Hands to food
Usually germs are transmitted from unclean hands to food by an infected food preparer who didn?t wash his or her hands after using the toilet.

People probably had much better immune systems back then. Also it explains why putting water in your mouth and nose is not part
                                      of wudu.

Personally I think we are taking this "kill all bacteria" movement to far. All of these reports are funded by companies
who most likely have a vested interests.

We know that kids exposed to germs and bacteria grow up with much stronger immune systems. As they say
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Maybe I've missed something, but who said anything about doing ablution after going to the toilet or using the hands to clean the areas discussed or not drying hands after?

Furthermore, when it mentions the use of clean/dry soil, it does not reference touching any area used when going to the toilet.

So perhaps rather than focussing on made-up scenarios, why not find out if the alleged scenario exists first?

In any case, from my own studies, most germs are harmless, and some are beneficial. Of course, minority can cause problems.

not cleaning your mouth and nose- is this a new form of wudu to the traditional one?

Hand washing is among the most effective ways
of reducing disease. Studies worldwide have
shown that programs to encourage the habit
of washing of hands WITH SOAP can reduce
diarrhea by between 30 and 50 percent. Recent
evidence has indicated that pneumonia can be
reduced by similar levels.14 In the Philippines,
surveys have shown that nearly all Filipinos
regularly wash their hands before eating.
However, only 26 percent of households

So you would support drinking of piss by the Hindues as it makes your immunity stronger, as there are so many germs in there- yes?
