I like using this quran search http//www.submission.org/quran/webqt.php
It does not, not even once, describe the dog as a filthy animal.

      God bless

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

I haven't yet found any ayat that says Dogs are haram to eat or to keep in your backyard or as a guard for your house . Funny thing though when God says 'avoid' , such as Khamr , why do the smart alexes 'wanna be gods' say that God meant to say "Haraam" ?
By the way , I have a big black Labrador who is a lot better than many creatures called human out there , my dog can even understand arabic phrases such as "Salamun alaykum" and will raise her paws in turn to shake hands ;D .

                Cheers

My grandparents have always kept guard dogs in the garden and at the farm they used to have. But they never looked after them. It was so sad because they all died yet the next dog was still treated as bad as the former. The last dog they had died a few months ago and it made me so upset as I noticed how it was always left on its own inthe yard, all chained up with nothing to play with. I always used to sing and dance for it hehe.

                  I have always loved labradors.

Which reminds me, imagine a blind man without his dog! Thats another advantage for keeping a dog. They make good companions for the homebound, including the disabled, mentally ill and the widowed elderly, which can help keep stress levels low and in turn have benefits for the heart.

They ask you what was made lawful to them, say ?All the good things have been made lawful for you, and what the trained dogs and birds catch, you teach them from what God teaches you.? So eat from what they have captured for you and mention God?s name upon it, and be aware of God. God is quick in reckoning.

"Since you wish to avoid them, and their worshiping of other than GOD,* let us take refuge in the cave. May your Lord shower you with His mercy and direct you to the right decision."
                            Footnote

You could see the sun when it rose coming from the right side of their cave, and when it set, it shone on them from the left, as they slept in the hollow thereof. This is one of GOD's portents.* Whomever GOD guides is the truly guided one, and whomever He sends astray, you will not find for him a guiding teacher.
                            Footnote

You would think that they were awake, when they were in fact asleep. We turned them to the right side and the left side, while their dog stretched his arms in their midst. Had you looked at them, you would have fled from them, stricken with terror.

How do "orthodox Muslims" explain this??

                                Peace,

You mean the bit underlined? I don't understand.

                                No, my whole previous post.

I will underline/hilight the important parts so that you understand that dogs are not "haram".

They ask you what was made lawful to them, say ?All the good things have been made lawful for you, and what the trained dogs and birds catch, you teach them from what God teaches you.? So eat from what they have captured for you and mention God?s name upon it, and be aware of God. God is quick in reckoning.

From the above verse we can see that God allows us/tells us that we can eat what trained dogs catch for us. This by itself disproves the "dhabiha halal" method of slaughtering and that dogs are haram.

"Since you wish to avoid them, and their worshiping of other than GOD, let us take refuge in the cave. May your Lord shower you with His mercy and direct you to the right decision."
                                Footnote

You could see the sun when it rose coming from the right side of their cave, and when it set, it shone on them from the left, as they slept in the hollow thereof. God mentioned a dog being with the cave dwellers of Ephesus. This is to show that having dogs in one's living place is perfectly normal.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

The dog issue is the best place to start with demonstrating dissonance between the Quran and the Hadith.

And angel won't enter a home with a dog, says Hadith. Yet in the story of the sleepers in the cave, dogs and Angels are the only ones awake.

Dogs are filthy and bring impurity, says the Hadith. But the Quran without ambiguity permits hunting with dogs and taking prey from their mouth.

God's word is filled with error according the the clerics.

                                    18.22
(Some) say (They are) three, the fourth of them being their dog; and (others) say Five, the sixth of them being their dog, making conjectures at what is unknown; and (others yet) say Seven, and the eighth of them is their dog. Say My Lord best knows their number, none knows them but a few; therefore contend not in the matter of them but with an outward contention, and do not question concerning them any of them.

I find the wording interesting. The dog is always one of them , the last counted, but one of them. Not he was tolerated, but he was one of them, as if the same as he stretched at the opening of the cave, he also guarded their number.

Other than that, any sensible person who watches a dog must me moved deeply by the absolute trust of these creatures. Would that we were just as trustful to our Rabb. These creatures are in our hands and they don't fear that we may betray them or fail them in any way, nor expect us to be popular, successful, powerful or good looking. If we are late, they don't question, they patiently wait for whatever length, and never waver in their trust. I cannot think of a more clear and simple image of absolute submission and worship. If we had humility enough, they are a clear reminding of how we should feel as submitters and worshippers to our Sovereign. We should feel always absolutely safe and sure and full of trust. If we don't, we urgently need a dog as a teacher. And besides they are guardians and they are cosy. If one is one then our dog is the second of us, and if two, the dog the third of us and so on. Alhamdulillah for them.

                                    Salaam

It is interesting to note that according to the Maliki school of thought (the second-biggest Sunni school of thought), dogs are not regarded as unclean.

It is interesting to note that according to the Maliki school of thought (the second-biggest Sunni school of thought), dogs are not regarded as unclean.

Yeah I was telling my MIL that, and her reply was "well it doesn't say that in Bukhari".

It seems people are so stuck in tradition they can't think outside of what they believe is true.

                                          Peace,
                                          Respectfully.

                                          Remember this story?

1818 And you would think they are awake while they are asleep. And We turn them on the right-side and on the left-side, and their dog has his arms outstretched in their midst. If you looked upon them you would have run away from them and you would have been filled with terror from them!

                                          They had a dog.
Dog is an excellent guardian for humans.
I also heard that dogs and cats can sense epilepsy and warn people minutes prior to the seizures.

                                          Peace.
