      Peace

      18.22
(Some) say (They are) three, the fourth of them being their dog; and (others) say Five, the sixth of them being their dog, making conjectures at what is unknown; and (others yet) say Seven, and the eighth of them is their dog. Say My Lord best knows their number, none knows them but a few; therefore contend not in the matter of them but with an outward contention, and do not question concerning them any of them.

I find the wording interesting. The dog is always one of them , the last counted, but one of them. Not he was tolerated, but he was one of them, as if the same as he stretched at the opening of the cave, he also guarded their number.

Other than that, any sensible person who watches a dog must me moved deeply by the absolute trust of these creatures. Would that we were just as trustful to our Rabb. These creatures are in our hands and they don't fear that we may betray them or fail them in any way, nor expect us to be popular, successful, powerful or good looking. If we are late, they don't question, they patiently wait for whatever length, and never waver in their trust. I cannot think of a more clear and simple image of absolute submission and worship. If we had humility enough, they are a clear reminding of how we should feel as submitters and worshippers to our Sovereign. We should feel always absolutely safe and sure and full of trust. If we don't, we urgently need a dog as a teacher. And besides they are guardians and they are cosy. If one is one then our dog is the second of us, and if two, the dog the third of us and so on. Alhamdulillah for them.

      Salaam

One of the better words said about dogs I have heard in this Forum , as a muslim who keeps dog for my children to play with , and to act as guard as well as friend when I don't feel like seeing a friend , I thank god for creating dogs for us human . Pity to whoever declared that "Dogs are Haram" in the first place .

      Thank you

Hence, do not utter falsehoods by letting your tongues determine , "This is lawful and that is forbidden", thus attributing your own lying inventions to God for, behold, they who attribute their own lying inventions to God will never attain to a happy state! 16116

WHAT?! What about trained dogs for blind people or for police dogs?

You mean there are no dogs around at all in the maldives? Or just prohibited by muslim to breed one?

Here in mauritius, there are dogs everywhere and its a mess more often when it comes to stray dogs...

However, the muslim view is generally the same here regarding dogs... haraam.

Most of the people here are narrow minded and ignorant and some of them are wahabis and salafis and hadhis lovers. two out of three women cover their head and a minority does not even show thir face except for their eyes. And there are no christians in maldives and it is a 100% sunni muslim, sharfi madhab country. the good thing is that the maldives does not encourage extremist islam in any way. And it is also a democratic country.

The constitution also says that if you convert from muslim to any other religion you will be striped off your citizenship and sent to jail...so there is no freedom of religion in maldives...no churches and no temples

Then , you should attempt a "coup d'etat" and suspend the constitution , declare 'martial law' and ban all religions ) , see it's easy .

We can't because as i said before, the maldives is full of narrow minded people...so they won't think of even attempting to overthrow the religious laws because they don't believe that there is Freedom of religion (human rights) in the quran

I've noticed the various translations have refused to translate using the word dogs. Have they intentionally done this to hide the contradiction?
Does the arabic text actually say "dogs"? I can't think of any other animal that would be taught to retrieve.
I am a dog owner myself.

Clearly the text is referring to house cats. Mice and buejays and chewed up crickets are halal.
