I know that the Sunni view if someone kills themselves, they go to hell with no chance otherwise.... according to the hadiths.
The Qur'an says we are not supposed to kill ourselves, and I believe it's considered one of the major sins, is that correct?
But what if someone is not mentally stable, and kills themselves? What does the Qur'an say are the unforgivable sins??

Do Quranic injunctions apply at all to people with mental instability/ insanity/ other disorders that compromise their ability to reason and/ or think rationally? I thought it only applied to mentally and emotionally capable people?

But most people commit suicide when they are emotionally unstable.

            That's what I thought too.
My husband thinks that suicide is the "easy way out" and doesn't agree with me that people who commit suicide are not thinking rationally.

Well, I mean, if you look at it, there are rational people who do commit suicide because it is the 'easy way out'
              Just think of 'hara-kiri'

But most suicides are committed by people experiencing severe depression, or mental disorders.

most people who commit suicide are normal.

Prophet Muhammad also tried to commit suicide several times but fortunately all of them proved only failed attempts.

(Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Number 111, Narrated by 'Aisha)

........" But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while and the Prophet became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to throw himself down, Gabriel would appear before him and say, "O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah's Apostle in truth" whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would calm down and would return home. And whenever the period of the coming of the inspiration used to become long, he would do as before, but when he used to reach the top of a mountain, Gabriel would appear before him and say to him what he had said before.....

That is a lie. The prophet wouldn't commit such a sin.

that is RasulHamsa's point. He has a weird way of putting it.

thus reveals, committing suicide is not a sin. because how prophet would try something that is considered as sin? nope

Gabriel only stopped him saying "O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah's Apostle in truth" because he had a mission ahead of him. Gabriel didn't say "O Muhammad you are committing a sin" ?

Why do you have to define hell to consider if suicide is a sin?

Because the conclusion is that one who commits suicide will end up in hell... But what is hell? And that suicide is a 'sin'...but what is a sin? ...One step at a time.

I haven't been able to find it in my print version of Bukhari, (the reference given is different than the number system in what I have). I looked all through Vol 9 Book 87 but it's not there. ???
