true, "adhan" is not there, but a calling to is, see http//mypercept.co.uk/articles/quran_on_salat.htm

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Agree to that Sis. I was thinking the other day about salat and adhan, if all messengers and prophets before Muhammad established salat and were Muslims, then did they do the adhan, bearing witness that Muhammad was the messenger of Allah, when he wasn't even born?

We just can't assume that because most Sunnis and Shias do it the same way, then it will be correct. All traditional Muslims, that I know of, claim that using hadiths will explain how to salaat as performed by Muhammad... but I just can't imagine that Muhammad would read 'Shalawat Nabi' or salute himself in the end of his salaat/prayer.

      Just feel like venting...

Well you don't find "adhan" in the Quran..

        I take that back!

Was showing a sister a Quran concordance and explaining how useful it is when looking up particular topics and happened to cross "adhan" (waathanun, 93). however we will not find the commonly attribute "adhan" the sunni and shia's use in relation to prayer.

Yeah, just like salaat and many other things in the Qur'an, the meaning of the word adhan has been changed to something that is no more than lip-service.

OMG, that article made me speechless. If not because of Muhammad, we wouldn't be created? Wow, just wow... I don't know what to say... they have turned Muhammad to an object of worship, just like the Christians have done .

?If it were not for the blessing and the generosity of the Prophet of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam), then the whole world would not have existed and apart from Allah, nothing would exist.

I guess I can say it's the Sunni way of saying that Muhammad is the Son of God s

I keep finding stuff like that. I found this song on You Tube and thought it was all to God but am not so sure that it might not be to Muhammed. I would love for any interpretations of the Arabic.

No quranic reference to this claim.

                        PEACE

Well some say it came from the Jews and some say from the Persians. There are many similarities. Some say its Muhammedan. Anyways the Quran tells us

2.177. It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah.fearing.

So if the Quran did not give an importance to a Qibla(if we assume thats what its talking about), why should we assume it would give significance to Rika'as?

                        You know like

Its righteousness that you pray two rika'as or four but it is righteousness......

Seems to be about the prophet, the arabic writing is just calligraphy of words relating to what he is saying. then he just sends praises to the prophet but refers to him as mustapha not mohammed..

i like the arabic calligraphy effect, looks funky.

Since rakats or units of salah are not mentioned in the Quran, then it is simply not necessary to follow them as a law. Having said that, if someone still wants to follow the rakats, there is no harm or problem in it per se. The Quran tells us that the mandatory part of salah is qayam, rukooh and sujood and that the sole purpose of salah is the rememberance (dhikr) of Allah.

The more i read and research on salah in the Quran, the more it appears that it is a very simple and straightfoward process. All Allah wants us to do is to take time out at specified intervals during a given 24/7 period so that while are busy in our worldly life, we give ourselves a moment of pause to remember, think and reflect upon our creator that to him we belong, we worship and to him we return.

                              Salaam Dear szuberi,

I do second your approach and reasoning. We also should follow a specific pattern to maintain the organization and the unity within the community / ?UMMAH. I, as a Muslim, follow the pattern of 2-4-4-3-4. It complies with the Qur?aanic directives and also, 24434=19x1286.

                                    Peace,

The grammatical meaning of rak'ah and it's difference from ruku' is simple, and how Muslims defined rak'ah as one unit of their traditional prayer is beyond me. Rak'ah is what would be refferred to as the noun of instance. IT is the difference between fa'l (doing) and fa'lah (an action), sujood(worshipping/bowing) and sajdah(a instance of worship/a bow), qafz(jumping/hopping) and qafzah (a jump/hop). So rak'ah would be one particular instance of rukoo', which is just bowing. Only in the hadeeth do we find this bowing specified to where one has to put one's hands on one's knees. I have not found linguist evidence in the Quran or otherwise that would point to rak'ah being more specific than one bending down, or bending over. The same goes for sujood. Only in connection to the traditional islamic prayer is this actions specified to mean a position of prostration where one's head and palms touch the ground. Otherwise it means either just worship or bending down or bending over. So how exactly a word that means an instance of bowing comes to mean a formula of bowing that actually involves 3 rak'aat, I am not exactly sure. I still am of the suspicion that the way the Jews prayed in the Hidjaz was borrowed by early Muslims and then calls to uniformity in that method of worship were also made by the leaders of early Muslims. It wouldn't suprise me even if the prophet Muhammad (God bless him) himself adopted the Hidjazi Jewish prayer as a personal choice. However I have not yet seen in the Quran any encouragement for him to do this. I think the command to 'bow with those who bow' may have been taken to an extreme.

As for why Jews don't continue to pray like this, there is a youtube video which shows a prayer very similar to the Muslim one still practice by a few Jews today. But Jews commonly abandon those things that other groups pick up from them. They abandoned Greek and Aramaic when they became Christian languages and I'm sure the list is very long of the things they have abandoned when other people incorporated them into their own religious practices. It is till amazing to me how they changed their own books after the advent of Islam. What I am referring to is how they specifically changed the wording of the Septuagint Bible that reads that Abraham (God bless him and keep him) married Hagar. In their Massoretic newer text which they retranslated back into (Arameo-)Hebrew using older Aramaic and Greek Bibles they changed what the Septuagint said and state that Abraham just had sex with his concubine, without marrying her. In which case, as is often they slandered the prophet Abraham, as I'm sure they slandered Solomon (God bless him) by claiming he had all those concubines. I wouldn't be suprised if the truth were that they were just servants of his, as he was a king. Maybe he was a great employer of women. D . . . Seriously. It is better to take the positive and good interpretations about our beloved prophets of God than to take the slanderous ones, cursing them and killing their honor.

                                    Godbless,
                                    Anwar

the articles by submission.org on the prayers and units is quite interesting and seemingly supports the oft-accepted rakaA formula, as supported by 19-based evidence, which personally i believe the 'code 19' is evidently a true phenomena of the quran. its interesting and i would recommend reading it.
