I don't rap but rap is my favorite music form. Immortal Technique (raps about muslim things, among other things) is my favorite artist. Lowkey is another good up and coming (Iraqi muslim) rapper.

Here is what my Sunni imam says

Music is both haram and halal, depending whether the instrument is made by Arabs or others. If it is a drum, and its skin is especially made of camel's skin then it is Halal. But if it is a guitar, then it is from devil.
If you are a male, your voice is halal for both males and females. But, if you are a female, you better keep your voice to other females; otherwise, you will burn in the pit of hell.

In the books of fiqh there are many more details on music. Nevertheless, I recommend you Imam al-Gazzali's Ihya ul-Ulum il-Din. After reading that book, you will never sing my brother. You will let the birds do the job for you and others.

Instead of singing, why not yelling and screaming like the preachers in the mosques? You will receive a lot of sawab from that.

        Peace,
Edib Abu Yahya bin Sadruddin al Bitlisi bin Tahir al-Adilcevazi

                  Salaam Akhi's
Immortal Technique is good, he's pretty clued up about what's really going on in the world. Lots of anti-Illuminati rhymes.
If you like that kind of Hip Hop you might want to check the Lost Children Of Babylon & Jedi Mind Tricks.
Lowkey is very good, a U.K. Rapper like me! -He's a political activist too & does a lot of work for Palestine.

Edip, Salaam. Does Shaitan play the guitar then? -I don't mean that to be a joke. Why can't women sing in the presence of men? My wife sings around the house all the time. I'm sure this is not in Al Qur'an, I'll have to check. A Sunni Imam once said to me if the music I'm making is Islamic, meaning representing Islam & spreading the message of Allah then it's okay to rap. But I know there are many different types of Muslims who practice Islam in many different ways & I respect your opinion. Personally I just follow Al Qur'an & interpret it myself. I only know one other Muslim so that's why I come to this site as I find the people here to be a bit more open minded that the local Muslims in my area who I don't see anymore due to their judgmental attitude towards me.

RA786, Salaam. Where do you live, maybe we can meet up? Lol.

                  Uq, Salaam. My Myspace's are www.myspace.com/neaality & www.myspace.com/halabi&neaality

                  Peace.

                      peace Neaality,

I listened to your tracks. I liked them. You might want to put up a lyrics page for each track, as that is often helpful.

As a side note, one of my ambitions is to write an album, and so I do jot down lyrics from time to time. I wrote my first song when I was 16 and someone performed and produced it for me years later. It was not done exactly as I envisioned, but you can listen to it here if you wish. Once I complete the quran/islam projects I have in the pipeline, I plan to return to writing.

                            Peace Neaality, all

The only rappers i listen to from mainstream nowadays are some of the old school rappers, 2pac and a few others. Many people claim that mainstream hiphop is dead and i can not say that i disagree.

Real hiphop lives underground just like treasures that are buried underground. You have to search for it, dig a little to find it. So if i am going to listen to hiphop, i listen to Underground hiphop (http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_rap).

If you like Real hiphop with messages and lessons, i think these artists might interest you

By the way, back in the days i also made a couple of songs texts and recorded my songs in a studio. But that was in the past, and i have kind of put my hobby as a musician on pause. When i reach my more important goals, maybe in the future, i will come back to the music stuff again.

Salaam, thanks for the feedback Brothers.
Those Last Emperor songs are nice & I'm a big fan of Jedi Mind Tricks (I'm seeing them tomorrow night!) & Killah Priest.
Wakas, I see you're from Scotland. I thought most people here are American. Your track is very good. We should collaborate for real Akhi.
I'm always recording so anyone who wants a free CD I'll send you some.
                                Peace.

but Im a little judgemental (sorry)...Vinnie paz is always in pictures getting drunk and always talking about crazy things...so as far as Islam goes... I dont think Id say they are "Islamic-Rappers." But some of their stuff is cool.

Public enemy is hands down the best political Religious-concious motivational rap group.

                                      Salaam,
yeah Uq, we gotta team up too, start a U.K. Islamic Hip Hop movement!
My Akhi Nur Alsaraf produced all my solo beats on my myspace & on my Halabi & Neaality myspace my Akhi Arafat aka DJ Halabi produced those beats.
We're always looking for like-minded Brothers & Sisters to work with & you guys all sound pretty safe.
I'm working on lyrics at the moment promoting Qur'an only Islam so watch this space.
                                      Peace. angel
