Peace Neaality, all
The only rappers i listen to from mainstream nowadays are some of the old school rappers, 2pac and a few others. Many people claim that mainstream hiphop is dead and i can not say that i disagree.
Real hiphop lives underground just like treasures that are buried underground. You have to search for it, dig a little to find it. So if i am going to listen to hiphop, i listen to Underground hiphop (http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_rap).
If you like Real hiphop with messages and lessons, i think these artists might interest you
- Killah priest
- Last emperor
- Jedi mind tricks
- K-rino
And here are some of the best songs from each of the above artists. Enjoy

By the way, back in the days i also made a couple of songs texts and recorded my songs in a studio. But that was in the past, and i have kind of put my hobby as a musician on pause. When i reach my more important goals, maybe in the future, i will come back to the music stuff again.
I'm glad you posted this. Jedi Mind Tricks are amazing as well as Immortal Technique.

I have listened to your songs on myspace and i think they were dope. Bravo. Your rhymes are nice, the content of lyrics are meaningful, the beats are good, the delivery is nice, and your flow is smooth. I especially liked the song last chance, isa and cut from the same fabric. If i can give you some tips on improving your songs so that they can be even better than they already are (constructive critism), the only things i miss, is more emotion and less monotone voice in your songs. If you put more emotion into your voice, then your songs would have even more life in it than they already have. And if you change your voice/flow more in your songs, it would be less monotone. For visual explanation/demonstration of what i mean by more emotion and different voice/flow, check out the song hellraiser from 2pac. in this song 2pac put tremendous amounts of emotion in his song, and he often changes his voice/flow throghout his song. He flows in a certain way, then he suddenly change his voice totally, or he put a certain amount of emotions in his words and then he adds more emotion in the next verse. For example in some of the sentences in his verses in the song below, you can feel the emotion of anger, dissapointment and bravery through his words. We can clearly see that he puts certain emotions on certain words/sentences.

Hello.
The morality of art is not only a theological question but also a philosophical one.
Something interesting I'm reading these days on this subject is Rousseau's "Lettre ? d'Alembert", I don't the book's title in English, sorry. Even if the book doesn't talk (so far in my reading) directly about music, I think that the arguments used remain solid with any art form. Actually Rousseau's view on music is a particular one since he believed that music was a better way to communicate than language. One of my main objections to this conception is that you can't share ideas through melody!
I'm not Sunni but I must agree with them this time. -

...Lauren hill - I get out (exposes the music industry)
http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXN0_oaPoZQ
I just have to say that is one of my all time favourite songs. It may expose the music industry but if applied to other situations it equally exposes a whole lot of rubbish that goes on. The words are so moving. "Are you sure it's God you servin'"? Brilliant lyrics, wonderful song.

Instead of singing, why not yelling and screaming like the preachers in the mosques? You will receive a lot of sawab from that.
Peace,
Edib Abu Yahya bin Sadruddin al Bitlisi bin Tahir al-Adilcevazirotfl You really had me worried for a moment...then I caught on. Priceless advice.
It seems that Neeality hasn't returned but his music sounded pretty good.
@ Wakas your lyrics on the song you posted were very good and meaningful too. )

God knows best, but I think islamic hip hop is an excellent dawah opportunity - i know for sure that I was influenced by a brother through righteous rhymes, hamdulillah.
Inshallah people may recognize Truth were they least expect to find it, laid on top of fat beats. As a fledgeling faith movement we need all kinds of vehicles to plant seeds of thoughts in people's minds.Beardless rappers rhyming about Allah (brothers and sisters alike, of course )makes a nice contrast with traditional islam, and let's be honest, we need to differentiate ourselves from the traditionalists. We are in a battle of ideas, and we ought to fight it cleverly.

Here is what my Sunni imam says
Music is both haram and halal, depending whether the instrument is made by Arabs or others. If it is a drum, and its skin is especially made of camel's skin then it is Halal. But if it is a guitar, then it is from devil.
If you are a male, your voice is halal for both males and females. But, if you are a female, you better keep your voice to other females; otherwise, you will burn in the pit of hell.In the books of fiqh there are many more details on music. Nevertheless, I recommend you Imam al-Gazzali's Ihya ul-Ulum il-Din. After reading that book, you will never sing my brother. You will let the birds do the job for you and others.
Instead of singing, why not yelling and screaming like the preachers in the mosques? You will receive a lot of sawab from that.
Peace,
Edib Abu Yahya bin Sadruddin al Bitlisi bin Tahir al-AdilcevaziSalaam.
I love your sense of humor, brother.
You always bring good answers here.
God Bless ya.Peace.
