To my understanding the meat of swine (pig) was also prohibited in the bible.

    Leviticus
{111} And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron,
saying unto them, {112} Speak unto the children of Israel,
saying, These the beasts which ye shall eat among all
the beasts that on the earth. {113} Whatsoever parteth
the hoof, and is clovenfooted, cheweth the cud, among
the beasts, that shall ye eat. {114} Nevertheless these shall
ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide
the hoof the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but
divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. {115} And
the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he unclean unto you. {116} And the hare,
because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he
unclean unto you. {117} And the swine, though he
divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the
cud; he unclean to you. {118} Of their flesh shall ye
not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they
    unclean to you.

    Deuteronomy
{148} And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet
cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you ye shall not eat
of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.

    Peace

thats torah or old testament, not normally considered by Christians as relevant to them. Jews dont eat Pork though.

Hanifa, dont let this upset you, please stay. I know how hard it is to try to understand when you get conflicting stories, its important to take a step back and not let it overwhelm you, God will guide you as you are sincere in your search for truth.

Wakas is a bit aprupt sometimes, he doesnt waste words, I think he may be worried he will use up his alloted words too quickly ;D

Not all of us here think the same way, there is a lot I dont agree with and a lot I research that others here wouldnt dream of, doesnt mean any of us are wrong or right, means we are all searching truth thats all.

Hanifa you seem to be one honest person, First read the verses mentioned by Hope4 from the Old testament, and then read what Jesus said in NEW testament, and than read at last from the Final Testament (Quran) the pork is prohibited throughout..

?Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. Hi hanifa47,
May God?s blessing be upon you and your family always. pr

I was made to feel quite uncomfortable by your response. I am a very new, non-arabic speaking, low-income, single-mother-of-two muslim with 7 translations of the Koran from 4 different people, each of whom told me that the one (or ones) they were giving me to read was "the most accurate". I havent even been monotheist for a whole year yet. I am trying my best to not only understand the religion i converted to, but to see the value of the catholic tradition i believed in for 47 years of my life. the only reason i even ventured to (now i know a bad decision on my part) mention Jesus is because the Koran, at least in my english translations says we can not ignore any of the prophets-i guess i misunderstood that, and guess for most of my life misunderstood what Jesus said as well, and now am feeling pretty darn bad about decisions i have made in my life having to do with spirituality. I am sorry that my mention of Jesus made you so uncomfortable that you had to go so far as to question my sincerity in my belief of what's in the Koran. This forum apparently is the wrong place for me. A simple, dumb, believing woman has no place in lofty discussions like these, so, since i have eaten pork for 47 years, i guess im just a dumb pig trying to be a muslim. I won't make THAT mistake anymore. as to aidid safar, on this very website, a whole of people posted links to his site and his book, so, mistake number two, i guess, was for me to go read his book as per the advice of other forum members. he himself wrote me an email and said pork is livestock. have a wonderful day, and goodbye-this is apparently no place for me-im too stupid to understand what's in my enlish language Korans.

May I ask, hanifa47, did you feel you were still missing something spiritually with the Gospels when you started reading the Holy Book of Truth (Quran)? If the answer is yes, then God has guided you on the right path to read the Holy Book of Truth.

But now when you read the verse about the forbidden food, pork, you were afraid for your spirit, being tainted? I am only assuming this and no bad intentions in my heart, dear hanifa47. God is merciful and loves those who love to better themselves to be with Him in the Garden.

You were right when you said that their(pig) purpose in life right now, reared to become a multi-billion food industry. BUT keep in mind about our ultimate grand-parent when they were in the Garden. Among all the fruits God created in the Garden, He commanded them, ?Don?t eat the fruit from this tree?, from only one tree. But they were duped by Lucifer and our grand parent?s desire overruled God?s command. You know the rest of the story, thus we, their ultimate grand children are left in this world with the final command in the Holy Book of Truth, pork is forbidden, one among all the foods God created for us today. I?m sure you can pass the test of this one of God?s commands, dear hanifa47?

When and if you keep reading the Holy Book of Truth and understanding the truth from God alone, the ultimate Teacher, He will bring forth the spirit of truth who dwells within each of us. Always be on the path which God has guided you on and you will be safe in this world and the hereafter.

Our Lord, the one God, is compassionate and merciful, dear hanifa47, forgiveness is next to godliness.
Had to check out now, brothers and sisters. It?s 4.00am here right now. Gotta work tomorrow.

May peace and blessings be upon all of us. pr

Let the People of the Gospel judge by what God hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what God hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel. (Surah 5, Maida, verse 47)

But why do they come to thee for decision, when they have (their own) Torah before them?- Therein is the (plain) command of God; yet even after that, they would turn away. For they are not (really) people of faith. (Surah 5, Maida, verse 43)

Say "O People of the Book! Ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Torah, the Gospel and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord...." (Surah 5, Al Ma'idah, verse 6

If only they had stood fast by the Torah, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course But many of them follow a course that is evil. (Surah 5, Maida, verse 69)

2.41 And believe in what I reveal, confirming the revelation which is with you, and be not the first to reject Faith therein, nor sell My Signs for a small price; and fear Me, and Me alone.

2.89 And when there comes to them a Book from God, confirming what is with them,- although from of old they had prayed for victory against those without Faith,- when there comes to them that which they (should) have recognized, they refuse to believe in it but the curse of Allah is on those without Faith.

2.91 When it is said to them, ?Believe in what God Hath sent down, ?they say, ?We believe in what was sent down to us? yet they reject all besides, even if it be Truth confirming what is with them. Say ?Why then have ye slain the prophets of Allah in times gone by, if ye did indeed believe??

To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety so judge between them by what God hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way. If God had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to God; it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute; Surah 5 Verse 48

And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that) was before thee... (Surah 10, Jonah, verse 94)

            1. 48-49. But (now), when the Truth has come to them from Ourselves, they say, "Why are not (Signs) sent to him, like those which were sent to Moses?" Do they not then reject (the Signs) which were formerly sent to Moses? They say "Two kinds of sorcery, each assisting the other!" And they say "For us, we reject all (such things)!" Say "Then bring ye a Book from Allah, which is a better guide than either of them, that I may follow it! (do), if ye are truthful!"

4.162. But those among them who are well-grounded in knowledge, and the believers, believe in what hath been revealed to thee and what was revealed before thee And (especially) those who establish regular prayer and practise regular charity and believe in God and in the Last Day To them shall We soon give a great reward.

In truth We have sent the Quran to you, confirming all the previous heavenly books that were revealed before you and bearing witness to them. -- 548

The term the Koran uses is "musadiq". It comes from the word sidq. Meaning truth. Sadiq means a truthly person. Sadiqeen is the plural. Tasdeeq means confirming, authenticating.

            Confirm
To support or establish the certainty or validity of; verify.
To make firmer; strengthen Working on the campaign confirmed her intention to go into politics.
To make valid or binding by a formal or legal act; ratify.
To administer the religious rite of confirmation to

            Authenticating
To establish the authenticity of; prove genuine a specialist who authenticated the antique samovar. See synonyms at confirm.

Confirm and authenticate are synonyms. The Koran uses that exactly Arabic word. To establish the truth of, confirming the authority of, confirming the validity. To authenticate.

In fact no literature on Earth defends and protects the Torah and Gospel like the Koran. It places it in the same level as itself.

The Koran does not distinguish between itself and the previous scriptures as it does not distinguish between Muhammad and the previous prophets.

"Say We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered. " 2136

"The messenger believeth in that which hath been revealed unto him from his Lord and (so do) believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His messengers - We make no distinction between any of His messengers - and they say We hear, and we obey. (Grant us) Thy forgiveness, our Lord. Unto Thee is the journeying. " 2285

AS far as eating pork. It may be the same as the sabbath. It may be a test by God. This usually means its no big issue which is why the Koran never warns against eating pork or praises anyone who abstains from it. I try to remember the golden rule anytime I discuss Koranic issues

2.177. It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah.fearing.

Notice the term People of truth (sadaqu). If this is the case with the Qibla then the issue of eating pork is even less urgent.

              So do sheep.

In Cairo, pigs have played an important part in waste disposal because they used to eat organic waste. Now the city is facing another garbage crisis because all the pigs were killed during the swine flu hysteria.

Belatedly, Egypt Spots Flaws in Wiping Out Pigs

Another excellent reason not to eat pigs! It's hugely unhealthy to eat the meat of an animal fed on trash.

Sheep are generally seen as having good personality traits, hence the parable of 'the sheep and the goats', the way prophets and other religious figures are referred to as shepherd, and so on.
