hmm, i don't think there is his biography written in there,
quran isn't really a autobiography of people, it focuses on other things, peace, justice, how to make a better society )

        Dear loxbox13,

The Qur?aan is the book of Guidance for the whole humanity. The Qur?aan is about directing our whole attention to worship of GOD SWT ALONE. Any other distraction is SHIRK. If you are really a GOD ALON, THE QUR?AAN ALONE believer, then the MESSAGE must be your only concern, NOT the messenger. Besides, what is so special about the Prophet Muhammad pbuh that makes it not so special about all other messengers of GOD Almighty? According to The Qur?aan we are not to differentiate among the messengers of GOD SWT at all.
        2136.

        Peace,
        Khalil

true, i agree, i noticed moses's story is mentioned more in detail then muhammad's, even joseph's story is more detailed, sura 12 my favorite one ...

surprisingly most muslims pick muhammad as a centre of attention, yet he's not the main focus of the quran, if he was and if hadith and sunnah were so important to follow, the whole quran would be filled with muhammad, his life, details, words, actions, all muhammad all the time

              The answer is NO )
...although there are descriptions of his character/actions which we are to learn from. They are not for us to idolize him.

2454 Say, "Obey God, and obey the messenger." If they refuse, then he is responsible for his obligations, and you are responsible for your obligations. If you obey him, you will be guided. The sole duty of the messenger is to deliver (the message).

2791 "I have been ordered to serve the Lord of this town that He has made inviolable, and to Him are all things, and I have been ordered to be of those who peacefully surrender."

2792 "And that I recite the Qur'an." He who is guided is guided for himself, and to he who is misguided, say "I am but one of the warners."

592 You shall obey god, and you shall obey the messenger, and be on your guard. If you turn away, then know that the sole duty of our messenger is to deliver the message clearly.

Why do you need a biography of the messenger anyways when his sole duty is to deliver the message?

3945 When God Alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not acknowledge the Hereafter are filled with aversion; and when others are mentioned beside Him, they rejoice!

Note that God did not intend for us to know all of the personal issues of the messenger

3127 If all the trees on earth were made into pens, and the ocean supplied the ink, augmented by seven more oceans, the words of God would not run out. God is noble, wise.

              Peace

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

Some writers have attempted to piece together his life, trials etc from The Quran itself, but often they use traditional material to fill in the gaps. Neal Robinson's "Discovering the Quran" talks a little about it, probably other books too.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Sorry , i didn't explain what kind of biography

                    His patience
                    His wives
                    His relations with people
                    The battles he made
                    the victory he had
                    The steafastness
The relation between him and Allah

Josef and mose are more mentionned in the quran, true, but the quran was for mohamed to give to the people, and when allah is adressing him, h e doesn't say O mohamed, Usually the verses gos SayI am no more than a warner.... etc
I think the quran was mostly the life of Mohamed, the events with his life, because everytime people of the book or pagans ask a question, there's a verse Say.... , sounds like gabriel was talking throuh him, sometimes when i read it, i feel like this revelation was live, the moment he was talking to p?ople, not like the sunni made it sound like he goes in a trance and close his eyes etc....

I think he wwas a great man and deserves some recognition from us, historically speaking as man to man, or woman to man, or knowing the person who brought us the message, has nothing to do with worshiping him, unless we're not confident in ourselves yet to speak positively about mohamed, the sects made a lot of people loose confidence in themselves for beign afraid of falling in the trap as sunnis or christians etc.. but i believe time is different, people are more wise and have more resources for knowlege than the ancient people, anyway, if i deviated, correct me please

After all, a lot of people are still thinking he was a pedophile etc... I think it's our duty to clear him from these lies, because allah said Salou alayhi wa salimou taslima, i think this is what it means

                    Exemple
This verse recognise only 2 wives
When the Prophet confided a fact unto one of his wives and when she afterward divulged it and Allah apprised him thereof, he made known (to her) part thereof and passed over part. And when he told it her she said Who hath told thee? He said The Knower, the Aware hath told me. 663

After that there's a verse forbidding mohamed from marriage
It is not allowed thee to take (other) women henceforth, nor that thou shouldst change them for other wives even though their beauty pleased thee, save those whom thy right hand possesseth. And Allah is ever Watcher over all things.3352 ( where did the 11 or 12 wives come from? )

Refuting the idea of mohamed married a 9 yo girl
                    (4) Give not unto the foolish (what is in) your (keeping of their) wealth, which Allah hath given you to maintain; but feed and clothe them from it, and speak kindly unto them. (5) Prove orphans till they reach the marriageable age; then, if ye find them of sound judgment, deliver over unto them their fortune;
( marriageable age and sound of judgement ) are related in the affairs of adukthood, business, marriage etc...

this is an exemple, also correct me please if i am wrong

                      Salaam, loxbox,

I have checked this aya and I don't seem to find from what it can be deduced that he had only two wives at the time. I read ila ba3di azwajihi. Ba3d can be one or more, and azwaj is plural. In this case ba3d is one since the later conjugation of the verb makes it clear, but I do not see about the only two wives. ?Could you explain?

                      Thanks and salaam

1stThe following verses from chapter 33 inform us that the Prophet pbuh had more than two wives.

                        (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279 (&#65279

2ndLet us stop commemorating others beside GOD ALONE. I wonder what loxbox13 is trying to achieve by continuously keeping up with the commemoration and remembrance of the Prophet Muhammad nonstop, almost in all of his posts?!

                        Peace,

                          progressive1993

I didn't make any difference between them, just wanted to colect the stories of prophets from the quran, I don't care what you think about mohamed, I agree that he had 3 or more wives, nut no more than 4 , and i learned this now in this post. If u thiknk by searching about his life in the quran is shirk, or moses life or joseph or anyone else, I am not doing it or going out of the quran, why did alllah call them by there names anyway, why didn't he just say a maeesneger , and than another messenger, and than a messenger in the time or pharao, and than the messenger of arabia etc...

I am not trying to achieve anything, just learning about law, about Islam, about his messengers, i don't want to condider moses or Isa better than mohamed and vice versa, when some talk about moses they feel ok, when mohamed is cited, than hell break

I am trying to learn about him, it is easier to learn about other messenger from the quran, i won't ask someone for help, but his it is different, for he was the concerned in the revelation,

If u feel this is shir than let me know

                            Peace,

I see nothing wrong with loxbox deducing a biography of Muhammad's life through the Quran. I do think it's nearly, if not completely, an impossible task as
                            a) The quran isn't linear
                            b) in order for you to piece together a chronological chain of events time x,y,z have to be present. Which is not the case when it comes to the story of Muhammad as far as I know. For example there is no way to tell which battle comes first without resorting to guesswork/hearsay.

We are not told about the birth of Muhammad. Again we must ask ourselves why? There is a reason for everything that's in the Quran; more importantly what's NOT mentioned, for it's not relevant to our guidance. Having said that, we all have an undying sense to know everything. Curiosity came before the cat.

Based on the above, do I think its a waste of time? Sorry to be blunt, but yes. Still, Loxbox has that right. I do not think this is shrik. Let's not presuppose his intentions.

Thanks, good argument, you're right, good explanation though
The point is, the prophet did make battles, I don't know where they are
He did speak to the people of the book, I can find them except one
He did have stress, i don't find it
he did talk to the blind man,or his mission is only to deliver, i know that one , u find it everywhere is 19ers
I know he was an orphin, "Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?" 936
I know he use to pray at night, there's verse that says it etc....
Not really a biography but more of caracter

I know there's no way to set the chronology, for what is written about him in the quran is only for guidance,
same as i know moses killed a man, or jonah ran away etc.... i hope u understand what i mean, nothing to do with worship, i dont worship no mohamed nor jesus nor moses nor the holy spirit nor this website or the people in here, it's all about learning

                              kgwithnob
I don't know why is it bothering u if i want to learn about him in the quran, after all, it"s all about the quran, ( ex , i know he had more than 2iwives from your post, but from the quran i know he had maximum 4), U keep saying his duty is only to deliver the quran, as if i'm looking for hadith or so, his duty was to set an axemple also, where is the exemple in the quran, that's where i take it from, don't worry, he also buit a state from zero with bedouins who stretched from chine to andalusia.. history say so,how he succeded with the quran, we must find out, maybe we're not really understanding th quran after all, for we're still debating how many salah etc., maybe the quran is a set of rule of conduct of the individuals, the family, the community and a constitution and economy system set by Allah and not a religious book after all,, anyway if there is rules about what to learn or what to don't learn in the quran, than show them to me, i will stop bothering

                                peace Jack, all,

On the contrary, I think getting a rough sequential order of events or story could be quite handy.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                                  progressive1993

I find quite reasonable that you should want to get data on the Prophet from the best source. My post was not in any way a show of disagreement or critic. It was a plain honest question and I find the subject quite worthy, as I find in general all your threads and posts.

                                  Salaam

                                    huruf

Does azwaj mean more than 2 wifes? as 3 or 4
                                    Or azwadj mean pairs

I see azwaj apply to anything as pairs, is 2 pais called azwaj ?

in the verse above, i said 2 wives for it sounded to me that one wife told somethihng to another, rherefore 2 recognised by the quran , maybe i am wrong until i understand azwaj from someone who know ancient arabic

the wole point is, mohamed came with the quran that testified for jesus and miriam and moses, cleaned them of all the lies about them in the old and new testament, cleared even adam and his wife from the lies, who's gonna testify for mohamed? the quran ofcourse, not the sunnis or shia who assasinated his caracter, but the quran has to be studied to testify for everything, well , hat's partly how i see the quran, good for everything that is good

please take in consideration, when allah say min kouli chayin zawjayn, from everything a pair
a par allah calls it zawjayn, meaning two = more than zawjayn, meaning azwaj
again, wa khalaknakoum min nafssin wahida, wa khalakna minha zawjaha = quand on parle d'une seule personne dans le couple, c'est zawj, the 2 of the couple = zawjayn, meaning 2 couples = azwaj
                                    Correct me please

                                      I agree with Wakas.
It is a perfectly legitimate inquiry if approached objectively... What does it have to do with 'commemoration'?

Let us start with an example - hopefully by the end of the thread we may have some basic understanding on him

Exhibit 1 - That originally he was NOT a Quraishite (person of stature or importance)
And they said "if only this reading had been descended on a great man from the two towns."

Exhibit 2 - That he WAS instructed in religious matters - likely in Syriac (given the times)
Say "The Holy Spirit has brought it down from your Lord with the truth, so that those who believe will be strengthened, and as a guidance and good news for those who have submitted."
And We are aware that they say "A human being is teaching him." The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign, while this is a clear Arabic tongue.

Exhibit 3 - That he used to conduct night vigils
O you who are covered with your garments. Stand the night except for a little. Half of it, or a little less than that. Or a little more, and arrange the Quran in its arrangement. We will place upon you a saying which is heavy. The time of the night is more effective and better for study.

Exhibit 4 - That his audience had good working knowledge of Judaeo-Christian rituals
O you who are cloaked. ... And purify your garments. ... And do not give for a return. ... So when the trumpet (shofar?) is sounded.

                                        Peace

I heard that G.A. Parwez wrote something on this topic. He apparently put together the verses relating to this subject, but I don't think this is one of his works that have been translated to English.

Has anyone heard of such a book?

Parvez's works still account for a bit of tradition... it will be 'purely' Quranic.
