    Salaaman MesMorial,

    Peace mmkhan;

I am not sure that you are accounting for a day prayer

?In houses which Allah has permitted to be exalted and that His name may be remembered in them; there glorify Him in the mornings and the evenings, Men whom neither merchandise nor selling diverts from the remembrance of Allah and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of poor-rate; they fear a day in which the hearts and eyes shall turn about.?

    Qur?an 2436-37

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Peace.

I am sorry, I did not understand what you are trying to say, can you please explain.

      Salaaman Khalil,

Brother Salawaat surely is plural that means at least three, but lemme ask you something.

If someone ask you to keep all the books in a rack/shelve and the red one also. How do you understanding this?

When you say ALL BOOKS why not RED BOOK is included in it? Cause, RED BOOK is not with those books, but it was in another place.

Similarly, when Allah said safeguard your AlSalawaat AND AlSalaat AlWusta, that means AlSalawaat is your regular Salaats and AlSalaat AlWusta is NOT included in those Salaats but it is Salaat AlJuma.

      Another look

      2458

      2238

      "AL" = The

      Salaat + Al + Fajr - 2458
      Salaat + Al + Eishaan - 2458

      Al + Salaat + Al + Wusta - 2238

May Allah increase us in knowledge.
      Mohammed M. Khan

The Qur'an does not differentiate between the three prayers and the middle prayer. It tells us to guard them strictly (i.e. constantly) and therefore whether or not the middle prayer is a "normal" prayer we must observe it constantly (like the rest).

      Peace

I am understanding that you observe two prayers per day (one at the ends of the day and one at night)? The ayah I quoted suggests that prayer is a part of the working day, also.

          Hello,

This whole thing about how many times we should pray has become so thoroughly frustrating. I do not speak Arabic therefore I can only read the Quran through translations. I keep seeing the arguments on both sides and I only see three prayers mentioned clearly from what I read and what you all are saying. It seems to me they are just being mentioned over and over again for redundancy. Also, what does a person do when they can't stop and pray at a certain time. I work in healthcare and I can't stop in the middle of administering CPR or dialysis to pray which means I will always miss morning prayer. Please help brothers and sisters your input and insight will be greatly appreciated.

I originally only saw three prayers but if they are not mentioned by name then it does not mean that glorification is not prayer. I only see five now, besides

            http//mesmorial.blogspot.com/

It is up to the student (Muslim) to decide what they think is correct, and I for one don't judge.

Morning prayer can be performed from the first ray of light up till the time when the sun has fully risen. It will only take 2 minutes maximum to pray the morning prayer (in its minimal form). If it is absolutely necessary that you not pray, then I imagine this verse can apply (in principle)

"But if you are in danger, then (say your prayers) on foot or on horseback; and when you are secure, then remember Allah as He has taught you, which you did not know."

            Qur'an 2239

              Salaam Pierre;

Thankyou and I have looked at the summary of your article. It seems very good although I base my understandings purely on what I read and not on Code 19 because the Qur'an is to be clear. However that is another matter and thanks again. I agree overall with the summary.

"Therefore be patient of what they say, and sing the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the setting."

              Qur'an 5039

The following ayah provides yet further evidence that it is referring to prayer, but also that glorification is not confined to the prescribed prayer (hence while lying down)

"And glorify Him in the night and after the prayers."

              Qur'an 5040

So in short I am thinking that glorification is to be continued in between and after the specific times mentioned (i.e. salaat times).

              Khuda hafiz

              Salaam dear brother,

We do not need code 19 to detail the five prayers at all. The five specific times of prayers are all directly written. The is the essence of the Quran.

              Peace.

              Pierre

                Salam to all.
Verse 11.114 in my opinion Allah swt is talking about the two prayers at the end of the day AT THE NEARNESS TO NIGHT. wazullafan is a plural indefinite (Hence the AT, and not The nearness to night) noun - that is used to name or identify a person, place, thing, quality, or action. In this case Allah swt is telling us how to perform the action that is to pray these prayers at the night side of the days.
                Respectfully yours
                Simone sun

                Salaam dear Simone,

(11114) And observe (O Muhammad) the ritual prayer ( &#1614 at both extremities of the daylight ( &#1616, and (&#1608 in the early watches of the night ( verily good deeds repel evil deeds. This is a reminder for those who celebrate (their Lord).

Dawn and Sunset are a mix of Night and Daylight. By contrast in the verse, Night has no more Daylight. We are told to pray "in the early watches of the night" because the Quran tells us there is a Adhan in Islam and we are supposed not to delay Salaat. The night falls completely, we hear the adhan, and we have to pray "at the nearness of the night".

In 11114, we all agree we have to pray "at both extremities of the daylight". The dual expression in 11114 is further precised and mirrored by the one in 20130, where we find the same expression in a regular plural "the extremities of the daylight". This means there are four extremities of the daylight regarding the Dawn and Sunset time frames (crack of Dawn, sunrise, sunset, first darkness at the end of twilight). Dawn and Sunset prayers being so precisely defined, and (&#1608 in the early watches of the night ( &#1616 adds a new information, as the Quran is never redundant, and this new information is that we pray in addition to Dawn and sunset during the Night.
Decisive proofs regarding the Noon, night and afternoon prayers, which nullify in my opinion the 2 or 3 salawat theories, are presented here http//www.islamrevolution.org/salaatsummary.htm. Sorry I don't have more time to say more here directly.

                peace.

                Pierre

24.58 fajr and Isha, here is 2
62.9 jumma, not counted in this as once a week
2.238 middle prayer, here is 3
11.114 At the 2 ends of the day and approach of night. here is still 3. Fajr, maghrib and isha = 3
17.78 at the decline of the sun till the darkness of night and Quran at dawn, fajr maghrib and isha = 3

Glorification of Allah and remembrance of Allah are a constant thing and not reserved for prayer only. The fixed times appear to be 3.

629 mentions a congregation as the important point, but it does not indicate that there is no such prayer at the same time any other day. It does not refer to a "Friday prayer", but simply to the fact that on friday we should congregate when we are called to prayer.

Just analysing this single ayah, it seems unlikely that 2436-37 refers to Friday prayer alone. Furthermore, 20130 is placed in the context of salaat by 20132.

It is just my understanding, though to me it is logical given that the Qur'an is clear.

                    Peace.

                        In short

The dawn prayer is specifically mentioned.

The night prayer is specifically mentioned. In the same verse we are told that midday is a time for changing clothes, listed in the context of two other prayers. Changing clothes implies ablution (although I won't say it states it specifically) and besides people would change their clothes before fajr prayer (i.e. Allah (SWT) states that we should enter masjids well-dressed) such that there is no reason why people could not change their clothes before the midday prayer (the clothes might get dirty as people get sweaty etc.). The fact that it is a time of privacy makes it clear that it is a time for remembrance (associated strongly with salaat throughout the Qur'an). The Friday prayer is an exception, where we are expected to congregate.

The sunset prayer is specifically mentioned (177. If you translate it as noon then that leads to 5 too.

The day prayer is specifically mentioned (629) with the time for glorification in 3017-18. Glorification times are contextualised as salaat in 20132 (and in 5039-40).

The middle prayer is specifically mentioned.

I can only see five prayers, but one's own unbiased understanding is the best.

                        Peace

                          Hello,

                          Salaam dear Duke,

I understand so much what you say about Salaat, what a disgrace that the Quran alone movement is torn apart on the issue of Salaat. It makes me extremely sad. I have years ago, for about a month, prayed 3 prayers a day, being misguided by people who claimed they had knowledge of the Quran, but had actually, in my opinion, not studied the Quran carefully.
I strongly suggest that you study key verses regarding Salaat using a word for word Quran, I recommend this one, from the university of Leeds http//corpus.quran.com/wordbyword.jsp. I also suggest that you use the 17 English translation database at http//www.openburhan.net/ to make sure you really grasp the correct meaning of verses.
You can read my article on Salaat (http//www.islamrevolution.org/salaatsummary.htm) which will help you gather relevant key verses for prayer time frames, and you can check for yourself the meaning of translations using the original of the Quran through word for word Qurans.
Do not let anyone decide for yourself without doing a serious research. I believe that if you do so, you will pray five times.

Salaat has been prescribed at specific times
(4103) ?Observe the ritual prayers; indeed the ritual prayer has been decreed upon believers at specific times.

                          1. The Dawn prayer
Dawn Quranic time frame (891) By the Dawn !

(11114) And observe (O Muhammad) the ritual prayer at both extremities of the daylight (dual plural = two entities, referring to the Dawn and Sunset Quranic time frames)?
(20130) So be patient regarding what they say, and celebrate (O Muhammad) the praise(s) of your Lord before sunrise (lit. ?the rising of the sun?)?

                          1. Noon Prayer
Noon Quranic time frame Sun at its zenith until ?Asr (Afternoon) (245 ? Before the Dawn prayer, when you put away your clothes in the Midday () , and after the Night prayer?
(301 All praise is due to Him in the heavens and the earth In the evening as well as when you reach Midday ( , when the sun starts to decline at zenith).
(177 Observe (O Muhammad) the ritual prayer from the decline of the sun (?Duluk al shams? at Noon when the sun starts declining from its zenith) until the darkness of the night ?

Remark ?Duluk al Shams? (?the decline of the sun? at noon in 177 cannot possibly mean ?the rubbing of the sun? (at Sunset against the line of the horizon), as some people have claimed, because the Sunset prayer has to be observed when the sun has completely disappeared behind the horizon (as it is made clear in 20130, the exact limit between the Afternoon and Sunset time frames is "the disappearance of the sun&quot, and it frequently takes over one minute for the sun to supposedly ?rub against the line of the horizon? at sea level and disappear completely. Salaat times are perfectly precise, not an approximation. Furthermore it is a lie that the sun ?rubs? against the horizon; it is a ridiculous belief inherited from the middle ages.

                          1. Afternoon prayer
Afternoon Quranic time frame from when the sun reaches the middle between noon and sunset, until sunset (1031) By the Afternoon !
(20130) So be patient regarding what they say, and celebrate (O Muhammad) the praise(s) of your Lord before the rising of the sun (Dawn Quranic time frame) and before its disappearance (primarily the ?Afternoon? Quranic time frame)?
                          • The Quranic time frame directly located ?before ?the disappearance of the sun? is ?Asr (the afternoon, 1031). You cannot observe the Noon prayer in the ?Afternoon?, so the afternoon prayer is by definition included in the time period referred to as ?before the disappearance of the sun?.
                          • Exact same meaning in the following verse
(5039) So be patient regarding what they say, and celebrate (O Muhammad) the praise(s) of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before sunset (primarily Afternoon, but also Noon prayer).
                          • The Afternoon prayer is mentioned by name
(223 Preserve strictly the ritual prayers (salawat = 3 or more Salawat), as well as the middle prayer (Salaat al wusta), and stand up before God with humility.
                          • The ?Middle? prayer is the Afternoon prayer, when the course of sun reaches the ?middle? between Noon and Sunset. The ?Middle? prayer is also the middle prayer of all Five daily prayers in Islam (Dawn, Noon, Afternoon, Sunset, Night).
                          1. Sunset prayer
Sunset Quranic time frame visual disappearance of the sun until the apparition of stable darkness at the end of twilight (921) And the night (layl) as it is spreading. ( = imperfect tense action in the process = there is still light in the sky).
(11114) And observe (O Muhammad) the ritual prayer at both extremities of the daylight (dual plural = two entities. Referring to Dawn and Sunset Quranic time frames)?
(20130) So be patient regarding what they say, and celebrate (O Muhammad) the praise(s) of your Lord before the rising of the sun (= Dawn prayer) and before its disappearance (Afternoon, and Noon prayers), as well as from the (first) hours of the night (= Sunset/Night prayers), and celebrate (the praise of your Lord) at the extremities (regular plural = three or more extremities) of the daylight, that you may be content.
                          • The limit between the Afternoon and Sunset prayers is ?the (complete) disappearance of the sun?. Once the sun has completely disappeared visually in the sky at sea level, it is time for the Sunset prayer.

                          17.2.5 Night prayer
Night Quranic time frame The dark night
                          (932) And when the night (layl) has darkened ( = perfect tense = action is over = stable state of darkness = when there is no more daylight in the sky).

                          • The ?Night prayer? (Salaat al 'Ichaa) is mentioned by name in 2458.
                          • 20130 above says that we shall praise God ?from the (first) hours of the night (= Sunset/Night prayers), and celebrate (the praise of your Lord) at the extremities of the daylight (regular plural = three or more extremities), that you may be content.?
                          • The Arabic expression which stands for ?from the (first) hours of the night? (Aanaa? llayl) is plural and describes an extended period of time that is much too short for the Sunset time frame alone described in 921 (barely an hour). Therefore ?from the (first) hours of the night? englobes both the ?Sunset? (921) and ?dark Night? (932) Quranic time frames.

(11114) And observe (O Muhammad) the ritual prayer ( &#1614 at both extremities of the daylight ( = Dawn + Sunset), and (&#1608 in the early watches of the night ( = Night prayer) verily good deeds repel evil deeds. This is a reminder for those who celebrate (their Lord).

All these FIVE precise Salaat times correspond to FIVE specific Quranic time frames.
People who claim that some verses do not refer to Salaat time frames are exposed by 5039-40
(5039) So be patient regarding what they say, and celebrate (O Muhammad) the praise(s) of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before sunset, (5040) And (starting) from the night ( ), so glorify Him (), as well as at the ends of the prostrations ( ).

Even though the word Salaat is not mentioned in 5039-40, the fact we shall glorify God at the ends of the ?prostrations? (Arabic plural = three or more) makes it clear we are dealing with Salaat and Salaat times. Only those who are too arrogant to prostrate during Salaat will reject this incontrovertible proof.
We have seen in this post that indeed Salaat has been prescribed at very specific times wich coincide with specific Quranic time frames.

                          I hope this helps.

                          Peace and God bless you.

                            peace,

The most common view amongst long-term forum members is two.

Also, since you refer to it as "prayer" you may also like to know, this is not a common view amongst long-term forum members.

You can make of that what you will.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                              2238

                              Dear all,

Why are we dragging this subject for so long? Just see 2238. GOD SWT is commanding us to safeguard the SALAWAAT (it is a plural noun, it must be at least 3 salaats) plus/and the SALAATULWUSTAA (the middle salaat).

With careful attention, in order for the SALAWAAT +/and SALAATULWUSTA to have a middle number, then the SALAWAAT must be at least 4. So, the SALAWAAT + the SALAATULWUSTA must be at least 5.

Now, and after the above reasoning one can argue on the timing of each salaat according to other verses of The Qur?aan.

                              Peace,
                              Khalil

                              Salaam dear Khalil and all,

(223 Preserve strictly the ritual prayers (salawat), as well as the middle prayer (Salaat al wusta), and stand up before God with humility.

I truly believe that God left us a great sign to solve the issue of how many prayers are described in the verse, and it is the following
If we focus on the key part of the verse "Salawat and Salaat al wusta" ( &#1648 the gematrical values are

                              810 = 5 x 162 (Gematrical value of "al sal?t&quot.

Verse 2238 is one of the great proofs that "Al Salaat" is to be observed FIVE times daily; clearly "Salawat" is three of more salawat (regular Arabic plural = 3 or more) and clearly Salaat al wusta is the Middle prayer of the five ritual prayers (Dawn + Noon + Afternoon + Sunset + Night). Those who claim "salaat al wusta" is the friday prayer or else only conjecture.

I fully understand that the clear mathematical sign hidden in the verse will not touch the hearts of those who are described in the following verses
7132 They said, "No matter what kind of sign you show us, to dupe us with your magic, we will not believe."
64 No matter what kind of proof comes to them from their Lord, they turn away from it, in aversion.
3058 Thus, we have cited for the people in this Quran all kinds of examples. Yet, no matter what kind of proof you present to the disbelievers, they say, "You are falsifiers."

Most people on this thread know that the plural "Salawat" occurs allegorically Five time in the Quran (2157,238; 999; 2240; 239), another huge sign. The expression "you shall turn your face" in the context of the Quran "towards the Sacred Mosque" also occurs FIVE times, and there are so many other proofs.

I truly believe it is time for people they claim they follow the Quran exclusively to study the Quran carefully and realize that FIVE salaat time frames are clearly described, and unite around the straightforward Quran. (So many more proofs @ http//www.islamrevolution.org/salaatinquran.htm).

                              Peace and God bless you.

                              Pierre

                                  Salaam dear sister,

What matters most is to always remain open to new information, as we may be convinced and still be wrong.
(5039) So be patient regarding what they say, and celebrate (O Muhammad) the praise(s) of your Lord before the rising of the sun ( &#1616 and before sunset ( &#1616, (5040) And (starting) from the night ( &#1616, so glorify Him (&#1615, as well as at the ends of the prostrations ( &#1616.

As I have already said on this thread, "at the ends of the prostrations" makes it clear the verse refers to Salaat.
It is also clear that Salaat times are described because specific times of the day are refered to ("Salaat shall be observed at specific times" 4103).
I believe it is key for people who believe in 2 or 3 daily prayers to ask themselves why God says we should glorify "before sunset", which intersects directly with the 'Asr Quranic time frame. Can we perfrom for instance the Noon prayer at 'Asr ? There is already a Quranic time frame described for Noon in the Quran (2458, 301.

                                  Peace.

                                  Pierre

                                    Salaam MesMorial,

I am understanding that you observe two prayers per day (one at the ends of the day and one at night)?

Yes only two per day, but one early in the morning and another one is in evening . There is NO Salaat at night .

The ayah I quoted suggests that prayer is a part of the working day, also.

                                    Yes, true.

May Allah guide us all towards the Truth.

                                      Salaam brother,

The Qur'an does not differentiate between the three prayers and the middle prayer. It tells us to guard them strictly (i.e. constantly) and therefore whether or not the middle prayer is a "normal" prayer we must observe it constantly (like the rest).

                                      Peace

Salawaat does not mean only three salaats, but it could be 3 or more.

It is not a problem if you don't see what I can see clearly in 2238, inshaAllah, you will see one day. )

                                        Salaam Pierre,

Brother, I am wondering when you said that "Salawaat" is three or more, then why not 5 and why only 4? If it is 5 Salaats, then what is the use of mentioning Salaat AlWusta separately, when Salawaat already includes Salaat AlWusta?

                                        Next...

What is the procedure do you follow to perform your Salaat? And where did you get that from? Do you follow the same way Sunnis do? From Hadith? Or you have a different way from AlQuraan?

                                        Please answer.

May Allah guide us all towards the Truth.
