There's plenty of calligraphy and such with God's name so that's fine. People don't pray to those images and I think if they did it would be considered idolatry.

Well very true, thus why when we pray we should make sure to avoid thinking about these images in our minds and rather think only about his powers or his names or simply keeping your eyes open to have a clear mind. Of course if one believes that Zeus image or that Ghost image were God and prayed to it, then they would be idolaters.

      "rather what is God?"

      {2435}
Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth; a likeness of His light is as a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass, (and) the glass is as it were a brightly shining star, lit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof almost gives light though fire touch it not-- light upon light-- Allah guides to His light whom He pleases, and Allah sets forth parables for men, and Allah is Cognizant of all things.

People look towards their lord right here on Earth too. The day of sorting will reveal all about all, that is my understanding. But this is a direct description of ALLAH in quran.

Here is a good way to imagine

It's a good trick I've been doing that recently (though without the zoom and outside the universe thing) though my real problem of course is that the false images show up when i'm just casually thinking of God.

Alright I clearly got a wrong picture going here XD Alright can you break it down for me? My understanding in a normal case has been that before creation there was just pure infinity known as God. What I want to know what is this infinity known as God? is it an endless yet completely function space beyond the borders of our universe? This is where I have always been stuck.

Also what do you think of the quote in the Quran where it states that we will meet God on the Day of Judgment? I don't understand how that would be different than now unless it means that we will simply be able to communicate back and forth with him?

When I pray I think of the Oneness of God and all of his qualities. Rarely if ever a picture comes to my mind. If you are believer in God and you are fully aware of God's qualities you usually wouldn't have "false images" popping up in your mind. For example I know that God is not like a human being. He doesn't have hair, or feet or hands like we do. God also doesn't have a gender (God is neither male nor female). God is most Compassionate the most Merciful, Lord and Master of all Creations. With these type of qualities in mind you would find yourself rarely thinking about God in "false images" since there is nothing I nor anyone else has ever seen on this earth that is remotely like God. When you think of God think of his qualities since this is the only thing we know about God. No one has ever seen God so know one would know his physical appearance. So just focus on his qualities.

        Peace,

        Kevin

Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth;...

          Peace everyone!
This minds me of a dream i had!
I dreamt that God told me that he is all these different colors and immediately i thought that God is Light! (since white light is composed of all different colors!)
(Also being light can also explain how can God be everywhere at the same time, since at the speed of light, i would reckon time stops, and so God can be anywhere and everywhere! (since "time" would be frozen!)
          Glory be to God!

I've been having this issue for a while.

I've been risen a muslim and always believing in the oneness of God. Problem is that i've been exposed to so much western images of God that the humanoid figure with a beard is what is stuck in my mind whenever I think of him.

When I think about him, I see this image.
When I try to recall heaven, that is what I see.
When I think about hell I see that.
When I pray I end up seeing that.

            LOL

I try my best to avoid it and try to shake it off. I know God is beyond anything we'd ever be able to imagine, but I fear that just thinking of such things even though I don't want to is shirk on its own.

As well on a similar scale, whenever I read the Quran I imagine a deep strong voice representing God telling me these things in the Quran, which again I fear can be Shirk.

Will God hold us accountable for such thoughts?

            Thanks

            Shirk!!? Of course not!
Take it easy, man! If anything, I imagine God smiling whenever we have those images/thoughts of Him. And what's with the beard? Like Santa. lol
Get into the salat* mode and such images will be washed away instantly!

So we then wouldn't be judged for images like that popping into our head as long as we don't make a real life idol of it and prostrate to it? I would assume this is the case as the Quran only showed examples of God punishing those who made an idol and prostrated to it. Am I correct?
