Sher Ali Men are guardians over women because ALLAH has made some of them excel others, and because men spend on them of their wealth. So virtuous women are obedient, and guard the secrets of their husbands with ALLAH's protection. And as for those on whose part you fear disobedience, admonish them and keep away from them in their beds and chastise them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Surely, ALLAH is High and Great.

And what do you think chastise means, genius?

    http//dictionary.reference.com/browse/chastise?s=t

to discipline, especially by corporal punishment.

    Synonyms

    1. punish, castigate; whip, beat, flog, spank.

Silly, arrogant males, delight in deluding themselves that God has some exclusive special relationship with men that He does not have with women, and find a real toy in extracting from the Qur?an the most irrational contradictory and filthy meanings they possibly can, and then say things like Israfeel whom aI think a
        troll has written.

Who do they think themselve sto be to act as intermediaries between God and women? How nuts must be a person to reach such a delirious conclusion. Aren't they ashamed before God of thinking of themselves higher than their own mothers? Do they not remember 4.1 where it is said Ittaqw Allah... wa al arHam. Ittaqw al arHam does it lead to beat the women?

How far and how idiot can a person become to go so far from the real life and from thruth.

Arrogance closes the doors of Paradise. Refrain from teaching lessons to your mothers and the mothers of others, refrain from that or you will be paying dearly for not reverencing God and reverencing the arham. You are no better than women and when you get so proud in fact you become worse than the last filthy creature on earth, just like iblees, why should he bow to humans?

Only people who do not believe really in the life to come can blabber such idiocy and pretend that it be taken seriously.

The aya 4.34 is addressed to one group the believers and it addresses them in the second person plural, then it speaks about the males, it uses third person masculine plural and about the women, third person feminine plural. When it says advise, leave them alone and idribuhunna, it is addressing the comunity of believers, not the males, it is using second person inclusive plural, oh you who believe. It is not addressing neither the males, third person, masculine plural, nor the females, third person feminine plural.

The Qur'an is wise and clear, but the muddled minds of the arrogant in need of some lesser persons to kick around are delirious and imagine a God measured to their own whims and imaginations.

        Salaam

Your translation is not only wrong, it sounds ridiculous and redundant

"abandon them" and then "separate them". Abandon and separate means the same thing! It's totally redundant.

Just to prove your idea you are changing the meaning of the Holy Quran.

Israfeel, THE SECOND STEP in 434 is only to ABANDON from BEDCHAMBER / ROOM.
And the 3rd step is to separate COMPLETELY.

Abandon in bedchambers and separating totally are two different things.

If parents spanking their children is not a crime (spanking out of love to discipline the children), then how is husband physically disciplining his wife a crime??

              You called this filth 'discipline'?
              http//ronewzakcleveland.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/man-beat-wife.png

Where are your sense of humanity and justice gone?

You only come here to spread hatred against peaceful people. You only come here to spread violent teaching.

              People like you are saddening.

You don't like the peace that Lord promotes. You support violence against wife.
Hey do you know Ali Sina? He left Islam because of violent people like you, he now mocks, laughs and ridicules islam because of people like you and whenever people insult islam, people like you get mad?

You consider the hierarchy of husband and wife is the same as hierarchy of parents and children?
Are you out of your mind? Where is your sanity?
This teaching has no basis in Qur'an but you can find this in the Bible.

One of your fellow Salafi brethren, Sheikh Muhammad Salih al-Munajid even supported child marriage and said that even little kids at the age of 6 are allowed to be FORCED to get married.

If Islam supported wife-beating , I would have left Islam.
But thank God for showing me the true path.
I am blessed by the courage that God has given me and I am blessed by knowledgeable truth-seekers such as Wakas, Pazuzu, Edip Y?ksel, Farouk Peru, Aidid Safar, G.A. Parwez, mmkhan etc.

Abandon in bedchambers and separating totally are two different things.

Separate totally means divorce. Why didn't the verse just simply say "and divorce them"??

Why are you playing around with the Quran. The word clearly is "beat them", but because you don't like what the Quran says you decide to change it!! Who gave you the authority to change the Words of Allah?

If you don't like what the Quran says then leave Islam, but how dare you change the Quran to suit your desires?

And looking at the context of the verse "but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance) For Allah is Most High, great (above you all)." The ending of the verse says that if the woman repents and stops misbehaving, then the husband should not seeks any means against her which have already been listed.

Now if a husband has "completely separated" from his wife, how is she suppose to repent and how can he take her back? Makes no sense. According to the Quran, a husband cannot take back his wife once he has separated from her

So if a husband divorces his wife (irrevocably), He cannot, after that, re-marry her until after she has married another husband and He has divorced her (Surah 2230)

See when you play around with the Quran you will create so many contradictions and problems. That's why you shouldn't play around with the words of the Quran and change their meaning to suit your agenda.

That picture you posted is not what Islam means when it says you can discipline your wife when she is misbehaving. That is going to the extreme. According to the Hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam absolutely prohibited to hit anyone on the face.

Can you break their legs? Arms? Collar-bone? "Beat them" to the point of miscarriage-as long as you don't hit their beautiful, angelic faces, of course?

                      Of course not.

Beating should not leave any injury. It is a mild beating.

"Beating someone" would cause an injury. Perhaps you need to improve your English. In what sort of a respectful relationship, does a man think he can hit a woman, or a woman think she should hit a man. Unless it's consensual BDSM, of course, which I completely understand-but yeah, let's see how many women want to marry you when you tell them you're going to beat them for not cooking you dinner and not supplying you with sex on demand.

                          Madame, I teach English.

A mild beating means to strike or smack someone, but not to the degree that it will leave a permanent mark or cause serious injury.

Now if anyone takes exception to the Quranic ordinance permitting a man to beat his wife, will you also condemn loving parents who spank their children when they misbehave? The principle is identical.

You teach English? I'm not remotely convinced. English isn't my first language-it's my fourth, yet, even I can see that your understanding of the adjective, "to beat" is deeply flawed so that it meets your interpretation.

You think it's acceptable to hit children? Are you kidding me?!

Animals hit other animals because they can't get their point across. Now, the assumption that homo sapiens (Sorry! I bet you don't like "homos" either!) are a much more intelligent species may be too optimistic. However, when you go around advocating abuse against a much weaker party, do you really think this is a righteous manner of conduct.

I'm sure there's an underground meeting place matrimonial network for such people to indulge in these rpg's which they playfully call marriage. They would also tenderly call each other True Muslims while one punches the other in the gut so as to not leave any visible evidence of their fun and games avoiding much public jeering and jail time of course. There are magical mild beating techniques which are like the wind gently rifling one's hair and thus arguably as effective as doing nothing at all but no matter. It soothes the wild beast. Not everyone understands, understandably, it's hard to be a True Muslim in this day and age, where did the golden days go when a man could smoke his pipe and whack his wives in peace whenever they served his dinner late. Or worse, wore curlers in their hair to bed with frumpy nightsacks designed to kill all feeling! The wenches did it deliberately to thwart any advances, the gall. Some have it down to an art form; divinely ordained artistic expressions of love for the greater good...so that the man can avoid erectile dysfunction. All the above are just emotional replies and personal attacks

The fact of the matter is the Holy Quran gives explicit permission for the husband to beat his wife when necessary

And as for those women whose ill-will you have reason to fear, admonish them ; then leave them alone in bed; then beat them

Even the Quranist Rashad Khalifa translated it thus

If you experience rebellion from the women, you shall first talk to them, then (you may use negative incentives like) deserting them in bed, then you may (as a last alternative) beat them

Virtually every published translation of the Holy Quran says "Beat". Are they all wrong??

I find it disturbing that you think it is acceptable to hit women. However, I find it even more disturbing that you think it's acceptable to hit children. Do you really think it's acceptable to hit children?

Beat/ beat lightly/ scourge/ admonish unfortunately, I'm not a native Arabic speaker, but take your pick on meanings.

The aya 4.34 is addressed to one group the believers and it addresses them in the second person plural, when it speaks about the males it uses third person masculine plural, and about the women, third person feminine plural. When it says advise, leave them alone and idribuhunna, it is addressing the comunity of believers, not the males, it is using second person inclusive plural, oh you who believe. It is not addressing neither the males, third person, masculine plural, nor the females, third person feminine plural.

The adivese, leave them in ther home and the idribuhunna is not addressed to males or husbands, it is adressed to the community, and of course it does not talk about beating, but about convincing.

But it does not matter, beating wives is a toy of the self-esteem lacking males, who need continous reassuring of their own worth by means of kicking others around. No community need to beat anybody's wive in order to mediate between the parties in a couple.

The image some males give of themselves is really pitiful, except when in fact they are trolls and they spew nonsense just to derail threads and avoid that people get a decent and purposeful debate of those matters that they want understand.

Let us not feed the trolls. Traditional muslims, some of them have really made messes of a lot of things in the Qur'an, but they are not necessarily mad women haters. Attitudes like Israfeel's to me are just contrived nonsense, not something he really thinks. We spend time pounding self evidents truths on him, and he comes back with more stupidity just to keep us away from getting to the core of things.

                                        Salaam

I said spank children (when they misbehave). Its what majority of parents (and schoolteachers) around the world do, and there's nothing wrong with it.

but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. (bible Proverbs 1324)
