    Peace --

The English RENDERING of the Holy Quran by Dr. Rashad Khalifa, PhD is simply the best there is, admitted even by some fierce opponents of his message and translation, as confessed by themselves.

    Example
1- His translation on many Noble Verses is actually very good and much better than many of the Islamic ones out there. Plus, he uses the accurate translation of "egg-shaped" for the Arabic word "dahaha" in Noble Verse 7930 to prove that Allah Almighty did indeed declare that He had made the earth into a spherical form."

That's one of the worst translations on the net even worst than his lack of simple math.

    http//www.landfall-learning.org/images/misc/ostrichEggfullsize.jpg

    The above egg is ~ 3 7/8"- 3 2/8" = 5/8" or 0.625 bulge
    0.625 / (3 7/ = 0.161290323 a difference of 16.13%

The earth is not ostrich egg shaped and he most probably got his idea reading Lane's while the mathematician astronomer Eratosthenes (276 -195 BCE) was first to calculate the circumference of the earth to great accuracy.

Earth 12,756.28 km Equatorial diameter - 12,713.56 km Polar diameter = 42.72 km bulge
    (42.72 kilometers) / (12,756.28 kilometers) = 0.00334893872 difference of only 0.335%

Why do I use Rashad Khalifa's translation of the Noble Quran on the site?

(although I do not recommend this site, if you visit it, you'll see why...)

ALSO, there is an electronic program of the translation for the use on computer as a downloadable version

          Mazhar

Anyone who has been thinking that Allah, the Exalted might not help him/the Messenger in future during the worldly life and the Hereafter, thereby he should find a source to ascend to the Sky, thereafter he should cover distance whereupon he should see/assess whether this move of him would remove away that what keeps enraging him.

Well Mazhar you couldn?t help yourself not to praising Prophet by putting his name there, could you?!

Your translation is one of the worse and meaningless too?.I don?t know how one can cover distance and that can help is beyond me.

Do you see any mistake in 1964 as I mention in above? I doubt.

Like Rashad Khalifa, the problem seems that elementaries of a language are not taken care and kept in mind while reading Qur'aan. A pronoun refers ONLY to a specific and identified person. The pronoun has to be translated by identifying the person whom it refers.

              Here is their translation
1964 "And we are not sent except by the authority of your Lord. To Him are our present and our future, and all that is in-between. And your Lord was never to forget."

Dr.Khalifa- We do not come down except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs our past, our future, and everything between them. Your Lord is never forgetful.

Can you notice the mistake of their translation? Does that make sense to you? Please check all the verses where those two words have been occurred ,see their understanding matches the context of the verses or not.

What is the material difference between the two translations. Enlighten us

What does contact prayer actually mean? Or is that prayer is supposed to be a contact between God and human? A kind of linkage maybe? But whay is it placed there (in translation) anyways?

                  @Asana

I did not claim that the other translaters did not err. What bothered me was that 2286 could have translated as

... Do not put upon us a burden like you did on those before us ...

How can you replace burden for blaspheming here!?
Didn't God put a burden on those before us? If not, then why is 7157 talking about removing burdens?

The translation where the word blasphemy occurs looks to me as if some people are trying to mock. So I will not use such translation without a clear proof!

Arabic was his native language. He was educated person? He knew about 2286, 7147 plus other verses how have been translated?it?s naivety of anybody who thinks he made such a mistake!

The same thing will muhammedans claim about their imams. But we are commanded to listen and follow the best. See 3918

They are the ones who examine all words, then follow the best. These are the ones whom GOD has guided; these are the ones who possess intelligence. (Rashad Khalifa, submission.info/quran)

I also do not agree with how rashad khalifa and free minds have translated 6824. It should have been "no poor man shall enter it today upon you" instead of "from then on, none of them would be poor.".
If you want to ask me what does that have to do with praising God, then my answer is that they did not only not praise God, but after forgetting about God they also wanted to abandon the needy from their garden.

That is a good point you brought. but it doesn't change the way I look at 2286.

Wa = And, Ma natazallo = do not come down, Ella=Except, Be-amre = by the command of, Rabbek = your lord.
Lahoo = to him belongs, ma bayna aydina= ..., wa = and, ma khalfana = ..., wa ma bayna = and what is in between, thalek = that

                    Also some clarification about 6824
An = That, La = Not, Yadkholannaha = shall enter it, Alyawma = today, Alaykom = to you, meskyn = needy

I don't see them arguing that non of them shall be poor here, but arguing that they will refuse entrance of needy people from today!

                      Peace,

Seems I misjudged about word by word translation. Sometimes it doesn't give that extra info required for understanding.
I did not understand the example asana gave of 2215, but here is something else I found on my own

Verse 4176 confused me at first using only word by word translation, but when saw brackets with extra information I understood what it meant. But still I do not know why I should change my view regarding 2286

                      Peace

Peace Alladin -- actually all translations got 4176 and inheritance wrong; which part was confusing?

4176 they seek your ruling say The God gives you a ruling in the kalala (i.e. spouse-less and fatherless) if a person died is not to that person an offspring and has sister so for her half what left and he inherits her if not is to her an offspring so if were two (feminine) so to them the two thirds from what left and if they have ikh'watan/siblings males and females (nisa is 3+) so to the male like share the two (feminine) clarifies The God to you lest/that you stray and The God in every thing Knowing

I hope you are not one of those who tries to change my language like telling me nisaa is not about woman while I am using it in my language the whole time to refer to woman.

Perhaps very stupid of me, but I couldn't understand what was meant with "he inherits her". I did not understand what "he" refered to until I somehow came across the translation of Yusuf Ali (Again I do not claim that translators do not err.)
... (If such deceased was) a woman, ...

I remember that there was also another larger verse (from 411) about inheritance, which was even more confusing. Can you or someone else (who doesn't what to change my language ;D ) explain that with examples please? I don't understand that with just translation.

Not I. Nisa always refers to females over 2 or 3+ as precisely defined ...

411 directs you The God in your children to the male like share the two (feminine) so if are nisa/females above two (feminine) so for them two thirds what left and if she was one so for her the half

21105 and surely We have written in the psalms/scripture from after the male/reminder (use context) that the earth inherits her/it My servants the righteous

I remember that there was also another larger verse (from 411) about inheritance, which was even more confusing. Can you or someone else (who doesn't what to change my language ;D ) explain that with examples please? I don't understand that with just translation.

That's a broad topic which they all got wrong leading to contradictions and under/over subscriptions of shares; e.g. 4176 Kalala no child differentiates Kalala in 412 with child.

                            Let me know what examples you want to see;
e.g. 1 sister and mother which verse to use and give the sister 1/6 in 412 or 1/2 in 4176?

Use 4176 case of Kalala no child...

4176 they seek your ruling say The God gives you a ruling in the kalala (spousless and fatherless) if a person died is not to that person an offspring/child and has sister so for her half what left

                            1 - 1/2 sister = 1/2 mother

Mother's share is variable, not ikh'watan (411) which needs at least one male present.

411 so if is to person ikh'watan/brethren so to his mother the sixth

                            1 - 1/6 mother = 5/6 brother/s

I'm attempting to learn all this web stuff to write a precise inheritance calculator. It will take a while since I'm also doing my own translation; the problem is (only one of many) most translations or even interpretations in Arabic are not consistent throughout nor do people bother to cross reference for best meaning, they add in too much bias and influences from prior interpretations and focus on proper grammar rules which it's better to leave it be not care how it sounds or comes out in English and let the reader simply read.

                            Peace!

The main focus of this thread was translation error. I think it is best to use another topic about inheritance, how about this one
