No, the jinn are real BEINGS.

Their nature is that they are hidden.

They are not DNA, they are actual conscious beings.

As for shaytan being within us or without us

    {4}
From the evil of the whisperings of the slinking (Shaitan),
    {5}
Who whispers into the hearts of men,

As you can see, satan is not "within us" but the whispers come from within. Its nature is to plant a suggestion in your heart-brain and maybe if you have evil inclination, you will follow that suggestion. This is no different to someone else saying "hey, let's go get some ice cream" and you're hungry and you fall prey to that suggestion.

The jinn are not constrained by space and time the way we are. Satan can whisper into all mankind at once. I doubt it's just Iblis alone making the evil suggestions however. It seems satan is a generic term for evil influences and Iblis is the one that started it all.

    {221}
Shall I inform you (of him) upon whom the Shaitans descend?
    {222}
They descend upon every lying, sinful one,
    {223}
They incline their ears, and most of them are liars.
    {224}

    Peace

exactly guys, that was my point. That shaitaan does not live within us, but he can be our companion and whisper to us. All the talk about having shaitaan and God living within us is meaningless since none of them are limited enough to be inside someone.

Can someone please elaborate further on the difference between shaitaan and iblees since it has bothered me for a while now.

Iblis was the Jinn that tempted Adam during the beginning of humanity....

234 We said to the angels, "Submit to Adam," so they submitted except for Iblis, he refused and became arrogant, and became of the ingrates.

1531 except Iblis (Satan). He refused to be with the prostrators.
1532 He said, "O Iblis (Satan), why are you not with the prostrators?"

1761 When we said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam," they fell prostrate, except Satan. He said, "Shall I prostrate to one You created from mud?"

711 We created you, then we shaped you, then we said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam." They fell prostrate, except Iblees (Satan); he was not with the prostrators.

1850 We said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam." They fell prostrate, except Satan(iblees). He became a jinn, for he disobeyed the order of his Lord. Will you choose him and his descendants as lords instead of Me, even though they are your enemies? What a miserable substitute!

2695 As well as all the soldiers of Iblees(iblees).
      2695 Wajunoodu ibleesa ajmaAAoona

Fact #1 ALL arabic references of Iblis point to the satan that lived during Adam's time. Every single use of the word in the Quran.

Rajm (meaning expulsion) is used to describe Shaytan .

      The Quran describes Satan with the word RaJyM (336; 1517; 1534; 1698; 3877; 8125).

Note Sura 3877 He said, "Therefore exit from it, you are outcast." (Iblees)

Shaytan and Ibles are used differently in the Quran. It is my view that Shaytan is a general term , it's more like a title or nickname given to Iblees. Iblees on the other hand is the REAL name of the Shaytan that existed during Adam's time.

Notice the simlarities between Satan and Iblees....

5819 The devil has overtaken them, and has caused them to forget the remembrance of God. These are the party of the devil (iz'bu l-shayni) . Absolutely, the party of the devil are the losers.

2695 As well as all the soldiers of Iblees
      2695 Wajunoodu ibleesa ajmaAAoona

Shaytan and Iblees are one and the same. Iblees according to the Quran is Shaytan's proper name and Shaytan is a general term , more like a title or a nickname if you will.

Iblees aka Satan. Iblees is the real name. Satan is general name which he is referred too by many.

      Peace,

      Kevin.

        Shalom my friend,

You haven't disproved my point. The ayaats you referred can actually be used to interpret what I said. Since our heart does not have an ear, that ayaat is to be taken metaphorically. I can use the same ayaat and my theory still holds.

Think about it this way, I am capable of thinking to do both good and bad. When I chose to do the bad, that is what is being described in 26221 onwards. Characteristics. When we chose to lie or follow abstract lies, that is when the devil descends on us. I do not see exactly why it is absolutely necessary, in the light of the ayaats you quoted, that the devil has to be externally-physical.

exactly guys, that was my point. That shaitaan does not live within us, but he can be our companion and whisper to us. All the talk about having shaitaan and God living within us is meaningless since none of them are limited enough to be inside someone.

        Shalom,

According to what I said earlier, my theory still holds. Since your companion is made up of same things as you are. Both can carry that gene set. So while you are working towards promoting good behaviours and suppressing the bad traits, your companion doing the opposite will influence you.

By the way, I am not certain about the theory that I am talking about. I do consider the probability that the devil can be externally-physical/spiritual. The ayaats I spoke about in the above reply to IAMOP doesn't prove anything conclusively. Both theories hold.

I agree. The Jinns do not live within us. They are physical entities that live OUTSIDE OF US. They have all types of power.

They have power to create things more efficiently than humans.

3412 For Solomon the wind was given, traveling one month coming and one month going, and We caused a spring of petroleum to flow for him. From among the Jinn are those that worked for him by his Lord's leave; and any one of them who turns from Our commands, We shall cause him to taste the retribution of the fire.

3413 They made for him what he desired of enclosures, and statues, and pools of deep reservoirs, and heavy pots. "O family of David, work to show thanks." Only a few of My servants are appreciative.

They have the power of Teleportation.
2739 A powerful being from among the Jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your station. For I am strong and trustworthy."
2740 One who had knowledge from the book said, "I will bring it to you before you blink." So when he saw it resting before him, he said, "This is from the grace of my Lord, so that He tests me whether I am thankful or whether I reject. As for he who is thankful, he is thankful for himself, and as for he who rejects, then my Lord is Rich, Bountiful."

They have the power to reach the borders of the lower heaven. Hence they can travel massive distances.

1516 We have placed towers in the heavens and We have made them pleasant to the onlookers. (stars , planets, meteors)
1517 We have guarded them from every outcast devil.
1518 Except he who manages to eavesdrop, he will be pursued clearly by a flaming meteor. (used as a line of defense to protect the Upper heaven or heavens)

They even have the power of suggestion (they can whisper to humans). But as I said before they don't reside in us. The Quran teaches us that they are companions ONLY to those you are disbelievers. The believers are guarded against the affliction of Satan. This is because a true believer will not meddle/or play pals with the Jinn. Only the disbelievers will do so willingly.

          Peace,

          Kevin

No. If the jinn are companions to the disbelievers it doesn't mean that they are made up of the same things as us.lol. For example a dog can be a companion to a human, a fish or ever a teddy bear. You are using the word 'Companion' too narrowly.

Also the Quran says point blank that Jinns are created from a smokeless fire.

5515 The Jinn He created from a smokeless fire.

Jinn are physical entities that have more power than humans. They don't reside in us like parasites but rather they exist outside of us whispering and making suggestions to us. Those who are disbelievers will willingly take them as companions whilst those who are believers won't.

              Peace,

One must let go of preconceptions and see the quranic reality as it is. Only then will you be aware of the satan's doings! The heart does have ears two of them. The entire body is a single unified system! The heart is open to electromagnetic input from reality. This is how the jinn "whisper". Remember they are a) hidden and b) made of smokeless fire/plasma. This means they can disturb the EM field of the heart to produce a suggestion. Plasma is intricately connected to electromagnetism. That's just a possible mechanism I am giving you. ALLH knows best.

                Shalom,

You have the ability to use your good genes and suppress bad ones ( in action). When you willfully decide to use the bad ones, you are making it your friend. I hope that clears it up.

The way the jinns reside in us, I derive from a process which requires two very similar species interbreeding. So, the Jinns may originate from smokeless fire. Still, there is nothing to say that it cant evolve and interbreed with mankind. I am not talking about a theory which requires them to be concious beings residing in us like parasites. It only requires them to breed with our ancestors inorder to pass their bad genes into us.

Who cares, its all in a hypothetical phase. I do not have solid grasp on it. My understanding lies in the border of what you are saying and what I am saying.

                Peace,

I have not seen the ears of human heart. If heart here means your mind, then still my theory holds. Since I am talking about characteristic behaviors. They being hidden does no damage to my theory. I see smokeless fire as energy, matter is made from that.

However, I must tell you that I liked your hypothesis. Entertaining indeed.

May God guide us to the straight path

                  Peace,

The nervous system is one system. We have the illusion of splitting it into "brain, spinal cord, nervous system, heart" but that's not the way it goes! There is a bundle of nerves in the heart that dominates our entire waking and sleeping life, this is known as the "little brain in the heart".

The brain is merely a bundle of nerves that is (a crucial) part of the nervous system, not the boss of the nervous system. The boss of the nervous system is the heart which itself is dominated by the breath cycle. So ultimately the rate of breath/heart rate is responsible for all our actions!

The nervous system IS the "mind". There is no such thing as "mind/body/spirit", energy is spirit is mind is body is light is matter. It just IS.

                  Peace

O children of Adam, do not let the devil /Shaytan dupe you as he did when he caused the eviction of your parents from Paradise, and the removal of their garments to expose their bodies. He and his tribe see you, while you do not see them. We appoint the devils/Shayatin as companions of those who do not believe.

                        Peace,

We can get carried away by the manufacturing of consent (brainwashing) we are the victims of from Catholicism to Hollywood and movies like The Exorcist...

We can also look at human folklore records and the persistent recount of non human entities visiting people and villages in remote areas in the world...

There is also the complex subject of magic and charms which the Quran validates with the two Angels Harut and Marut, and with the Surah Ch 113 of the Quran...

However in the Quran, the Jinns (Undetectable Plasma Beings? or maybe Beings resonating at out of range frequencies for our senses to detect? - latter one is David Icke idea, though he thinks they are beings from other planets) and Inns (humans) are always separately addressed, as the Quran mainly addresses humans, it also addresses Jinns, and it does so separately, or as companions in mischief...

As companions is interesting, and it means they can develop an interface of some sort, Jinn to Humans and Humans to Jinns...

There is nice ayats in Surat Al Rahman (Ch 55) that show eloquently that the Jinn are separate entities from us

                        5514
                        5515
                        5531
                        5533
                        5556
                        5574

5514 He created man from a sludge, like pottery.
5515 And the Jinn He created from a smokeless fire.
5531 We will call you to account, both of you endowed with weight (heavy beings).
5533 O assembly of Jinn and mankind, if you can penetrate the boundaries of the heavens and the
earth, then go ahead and penetrate. You will not penetrate without might.
5556 In them are those with a modest gaze, untouched before by any man or Jinn.
5574 No man has ever touched them, nor Jinn.

I made a small modification (an important one) to the FM translation in 5531, because thakalan means in fact the two heavy ones or the two endowed with weight... i.e. they both have weight (unlike many other entities that do not?)

An important question that has been puzzling me is why do the Jinns not communicate with us liberally, after all there are some who are Muslims?

I have a hypothesis, and might share it...

As for me, I do get visited in my dreams from time to time by an evil jinn, and maybe some good ones... the reason I say that is that I taught myself to remember my dreams (it works, though not systematically)... and when the evil entity takes over a dream, which is usually in a very alien setting, reading ayat alkursee gets rid of it...
as for the good ones, I know they are good... with a pleasant or familiar setting... and there is one that often appears to me as my deceased mother, in a very realistic fashion... that is unless I am communicating with my dead mother, which is also possible, as Allah in the Quran says that this Quran can allow you to communicate with the dead...

                        and Allah knows...

Very interesting post Nabster but may I ask about this

"as Allah in the Quran says that this Quran can allow you to communicate with the dead..."

Where do you draw this from?

                          Peace

And even if there were a Quran with which the mountains were made to pass away, or the earth were travelled over with it, or the dead were made to speak thereby; nay! the commandment is wholly Allah's, Have not yet those who believe known that if Allah please He would certainly guide all the people? And (as for) those who disbelieve, there will not cease to afflict them because of what they do a repelling calamity, or it will alight close by their abodes, until the promise of Allah comes about; surely Allah will not fail in (His) promise.

I have had one dream where I died in it, floated up into a golden light, and communicated with God (it really wasn't conversation... just this deep understanding phenomena thing that it was not my time to die yet and that I must leave that peaceful place and return to the world), then returned alive to the dream for a short while longer before waking. A few months later I bacame a vegetarian after fasting for 72 hours straight.

Also had a dream where an angel (a white luminous being floating in the air - only saw the illumination, no wings, feet, face, hands, etc., and no name for it was mentioned) came to me at the end of it to warn me (after I flew up beside it, it spoke) that the devil was behind me (i.e. it had been following me - and when I turned around to see, the shock of the monster I saw woke me from the dream/vision.

There is also the complex subject of magic and charms which the Quran validates with the two Angels Harut and Marut, and with the Surah Ch 113 of the Quran...

                                  and Allah knows...

Haroot and Maroot taught the trick /magic how to create animosity between man and his wife, as a test of faith but at present this same trick is resulting in unprecedented numbers of divorces hmm

Last week UK and rest of the world were shocked and saddened to learn that Gary Speed, who was seen as a man who had everything could still wish for death,as he has committed suicide, appearently during night time.
The question on everyone's mind is why? http//www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2067473/Gary-Speed-depressed--happily-married.html
I think it's that dreaded wisper from jinn/shaytan that caused him to kill himself, just like it has in the past inspired many others to commit suicide, but to mention this to people in the UK would be to court the label of 'lunatic'.

hail IAMOP, Peace and well done, I also believe and/or am of the opinion that it is not something easy to achieve, and that it is graced to whomever Allah pleases, i.e. the believers...

BlackStone, good for you... and it could have several interpretations... only one who is versed and blessed in the interpretation like Prophet Yusef could give you that...

IMHO, Magic has of course been forbidden the Muslims, and this is part of the argument I have which makes it extremely hard, next to impossible for Muslim Jinns and Humans to initiate contact, as a lot of magic is induced by Jinn interventions (Magic for some is just reality or day to day routine for others, even trans-dimensional or trans-modal manifestations)...

As for the subject of killing the self, I do not find the clear cut evidence in the Quran that it is forbidden... killing others without justice yes, but Allah advises those of the Israelites who transgressed to wish for death and even kill themselves and that this will be better in the face of their Nourishers than carrying on blaspheming and transgressing... so there might be extreme cases where someone can take his life if carrying on living is a liability to him and to Allah's... and Allah knows...

Of course this should not be taken as license to kill oneself for any other reason than to protect oneself from blasphemy, transgression and idolatry... etc.

                                      Shalom,

I find such interpretations weird. I mean the using of Qur'an as medium to speak to the dead.

3669 And We did not teach him poetry, nor does he need it. This is a reminder and a clear Qur'an.
3670 To warn those who are alive, and so that the retribution will be deserved by the rejecters.

I mean, one could go throughout the entire Qur'an and note down all the things that the Qur'an is there for. I have never found such suggestions. Infact, whatever I have learnt so far goes against the dead being conscious to communicate with me. I thought that dead people were dead until resurrection. Now the dead has to be alive till resurrection which doesn't make any logical sense. Probably theNabster meant it in some other way.

Sorry for the offtopic post P Forgive me

To deny oneself life and to cut short the life, given by Allah swt, is a grievous sin and to despair is also a sin advocated by satan/jinn. As for the Israelites, as I understand it, they were told that the sin of killing themselves would be a lesser sin than what they were doing and thus preferable. Similarly Allah swt has declared that 'persecution is worse than killing'.

Peace Shalom Student of Allah IMHO,

Let us not be alarmed, bouncing off ideas and testing one's understanding is my way of handling things...

that being said, every thing is being done through Allah's leave, even the simple day to day ones...

and Isa ressurected the dead, which is even more "fantastic" than communicating to them... again through Allah's leave...

besides not all dead are dead actually, as martyrs are alive within Allah's "domain", which Allah emphasises in several ayats to do with battles...

As for those who kill themselves off, IMHO, Allah will decide...

                                          and Allah knows...
