Does this verse imply that salat actually means bowing and praying to God as opposed to assembly?

Can you actually post the verse like 1235 or 18/39 example? I can't find that verse you wrote the comment awfully.

Could you actually mean Surat Sad, verses 31 and 32?

          Peace,

why? When I read the verse I just see Suleiman forgot to do something named dhikr rabi= rememberance of The God during a specific time!
Nowhere it is said "bowing, praying"

My answer to your question would be then No, the verse does not imply what you say.

Exactly. People seem to think you need prayers to remember Allah. That's very stupid. I never prayed and I'm pretty sure I remember Allah a lot.

              Peace All,

I meant in general terms. If, however, we are saying that 'salat' means assembly, then why would Solomon be bothered about not praying at a specific time of day, ie, as it was getting dark. To me, there is a suggestion that he has missed something that he should have done at a certain time.

By the way, when someone is looking for help, ie me, sarcasm and making someone look foolish don't really help, especially on a forum such as this, where people are supposed to be following the Koran.

              Dawn.

Salat doesn't have to mean assembly. There are many other beliefs. Can you post the verses because I think I might be reading at the wrong ones here because I see no specific time mentioned. In my understanding, Solomon was busy having fun so he didn't remember Allah until the sun disappeared into the curtain of darkness.

                  So Kaiokenred,
If there aren't specific times to pray, what difference did it make when solomon prayed. It shouldn't matter whether it is dark or not!

                    Salaam DawnG,

                    I agree with Layth.

                    3831
3831 When, at Eishaan , well trained horses were displayed before him.

                    3832
3832 He said "I have enjoyed materialism from the remembrance of my Lord, until it had set beyond the horizon!"

The two highlighted words above clarifies that it refers to Salaat. Salaat is timely bounded, written on specific times . From that one is the time of Eishaan . Next point is Salaat IS for the remembrance of Allah .

May Allah increase us all in knowledge and guide us all to His true path pr

                        Peace Kaiokenred,

It doesn't say that he prayed, but it said that he forgot to remember his Lord, so much so that the sun had set beyond the horizon. Salat needs to be done at specific times, but if Solomon was just forgetting to remember his Lord, as opposed to doing Salat(assembly) then surely God did not need to mention the time of day - we can remember and worship God whenever we want.

Salat doesn't necessarily mean assembly, but it doesn't mean prayer either. "so that the sun had set beyond the horizon" is simply a way to tell that he was forgetting Allah until the sun set. You can't conclude salat=prayer from this. Salomon was a prophet. He had prophet duties. We're not to worship a God, we're to serve Allah. Prayer means worshipping. Also, who are you praying to? Allah manifests all reality from the inside-out. Allah's closer to you than your jugular vein. You don't need prayers. Allah isn't a god sitting on the sky looking at us with his eyes.

                            Peace Kaiokenred,

I have only a small amount of Arabic so I use an English translation of the Koran. According to the Koran I am using Solomon forgot to worship his Lord, because he was so involved with the horses. Where I am coming from, worship is another word for prayer. This is my question, this verse reads like Solomon missed something he should have done, which is why I am asking if Salat is assembly then Solomon needn't have worried about missing his worship, because you can speak to God whenever you want to. Unless, of course, he had planned a salat with others on that particular afternoon!

                            Dawn.

Sorry but the verse doesn't imply that at all. Salat isn't even mentioned here so why does assembly matters? Also, even if assembly isn't right doesn't mean prayer is. There's other definitions out there.

Establish regular prayers (Arabic Aqeemus Salaat) at the sun's decline till the darkness of the night, and the morning prayer and reading for the prayer and reading in the morning carry their testimony.

from this verses we see clear, that the time where salomon missed the Zikr comes together with the salat.

Prayer and Dhikr (Remembrance) are not necessarily the same thing (6210) and DHIKR (constant remembrance) is better (2945) This can clearly be seen when in one verse, they are shown to be two separate practices. There are also other examples of this in the Quran.

Wrong. There are also translations as Be committed from when the sun's decline till the darkness of the nightetc... that translation isn't necessarily the right one. Also, don't forget that the Quran we're reading is CHANGED. There exists an original one, but these are from the changed one.

And did you just have to piss me off? You used remembrance. You don't need prayers to remember Allah.

What the hell does prayer do? Huh? answer me? How does praying helps us in anything? Why would an OMNISCIENT Creator seek us to do stupid rituals? WHY?

I think you are jumping the gun with statements like "God does not need!"

Of course the Lord of the Universe "does not need" but He does "want".

The Lord "wants" service/worship from His creation (5156).

The animals, angels, even lightning, praise God in their own way (1744, 1313).

If God says He "wants" this act of Salat to be remembered by and thus He will remember us (2152), then who are we to argue!

Yes and Allah is OMNISCIENT. Which means Allah knows what to want and what's totally useless. Prayer just doesn't seem reasonable to me. Allah wants our service. You serve Allah by upholding the Deen of Islam.

                                          dear brother
with all respect, I do not know how you could do make on my normal response such a nasty remark. I am far from wishing someone "piss out" with my comments. I answered you with kindness in trying my best to answer-if I stand stand you up your feet, then I am sorry.
You are of the view that prayer is a silly ritual. Can it be, if it is used as such. On the other hand, it must not be ritualized .. This is my own opinion. Peace
