As Salaam Alaykum. As my name says, I am scared. Scared of what I have learned, but feel I have known all along...that a majority of Muslims follow the Prophet Muhammed (saws) over God. So often I would scratch my head at the "rituals" I was told to perform (like the pointing of the finger during salat, saying "bismillah" when entering the house, asking protection when entering the bathroom, etc.). It seemed so...I can't seem to find the word today, must be from the fasting .

So I have spent the better part of the day reading up on Qu'ran only Muslims. I agree with so much of what it says, but am terrified that I will be a kafir for walking away from hadith. How can something that so many others follow be so wrong?

I guess my answer to that could be equated with how so many Christians observe Christmas and Easter, even though the Bible never says to do it.

I am married with a daughter, my husband came to Islam while incarcerated in prison, even though his father was Muslim (and is also incarcerated). I am the only Muslim in my family, other than a distant cousin. I was raised Christian and for a while studied with Jehovahs Witnesses. Of course, they too commit shirk and once I realized that, I came to Islam.

Please forgive me if I seem shattered...I am terrified...I have no idea what is right anymore.

      Salam and welcome welcome

      Trust your conscience...
And don't be scared... it takes a lot of 'guts' to really stand up on what you believe in...
And that's what Abraham did many centuries ago...

Terror and fear is among many 'techniques' being employed by the kuffars (read kufr = those who tried to hide the truth) to cover the truth from being known to the people...

The basic principle is very simple.. Truth doesn't need any protection.. it just need to be told..

Thank you. "Superstitious" was the word I was looking for earlier. Everything seems so superstitious.

I am afraid of what might happen if I decide to follow only the Quran. Everyone else I know accepts both Quran and hadith.

              w/salaam,

I am terrified...I have no idea what is right anymore.

I think you do, otherwise you wouldn't feel how you feel. The truth can be scary/overwhelming at first. For some reason you reminded me of this verse

So when Moses came to Our appointed time, and his Lord spoke to him, he said "My Lord, let me look upon you." He said "You will not see Me, but look upon the mountain, if it stays in its place then you will see Me." So when his Lord revealed Himself to the mountain, He caused it to crumble; thus Moses fell unconscious. When he awoke, he said "Glory be to You, I repent to You and I am the first of those who believe."

I was just going to post that Ayah.

?The words of your Lord are complete in its truth and justice. Nothing can change His words ? He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. If you obeyed most of those on earth, they would lead you away from the path of Allah. They follow nothing but speculation ? they are merely guessing.? (6115-116)

                    and

And they shall say O our Lord! surely we obeyed our leaders and our great men, so they led us astray from the path; (33.67)

"Do not accept anything that you have no knowledge of. Surely the hearing, the sight and the mind you are responsible for." (1736)

Sweety, let me ask you this. How can following the book of Allah with a pure heart and sincerity lead you astray? Allah is mercy. When I first turned away from hadith, everyone freaked out! It just did not make sense why, it is the complete book of God.. how could following it be so bad?? I did not leave Christianity (Catholicism, too) just to adapt to another religion idolizing another man with God, superstitions and robot rituals. Sayings the just made me feel so bad, how could I follow that? I was seeking a personal relationship with my creator. It is the only think that felt right to me. I found that with Quran.

"Do they not meditate earnestly on the Qur?an, or are there locks on the hearts?" (4724)

May Allah guide you and bring peace to your heart and mind.

?And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way." (2186)

                      Have no fear dear muslim.

He said, "My Lord, since You have willed that I go astray, I will surely entice them on earth; I will send them all astray.

"Except those among Your worshipers who are devoted absolutely to You alone."
He said, "This is a law that is inviolable.

"You have no power over My servants. You only have power over the strayers who follow
                      you.

Let me start by saying that all major religions have suffered corruption because satan has out smarted humans from the begining of time. Your only refuge is God.
be careful of the majority because many follow traditions that are not revelations from God.

Surely, those who argue against GOD's revelations without proof are exposing the arrogance that is hidden inside their chests, and they are not even aware of it. Therefore, seek refuge in GOD; He is the Hearer, the Seer

When we stray into what we say Muhammad said or what Jesus said or what Moses said,we leave ourselves open to the enterpretations of satan.

                      Here's an example
who told you to change your name?
                      who said cover your hair?
                      who said stone gays?

You are not lost or crazy.
You are becoming a thinker. congradulations!
reflect on what happened in the Garden of eden
Make your life between you and God.

I had this problem too, though I am an abrasive person who is ready to fight physically and verbally for his beliefs and I think a lot of people sensed this, so being bullied or chastised or physically hurt for stating that I am Qu'ran only and no longer a hadithist was not as difficult for me.

I don't know what your situation is though, but you must be brave. I know you have a husband and a child, I cannot comment on the position you are in as I was never in that position, I can't imagine how tough it must be for you, but you must be brave, and you must remember that Allah is the one whom you should fear the most out of anyone. Any people who outcast you for your beliefs are not worthy of your time anyways. As for your family, this is very difficult I can imagine. I hope that Allah gives you the strength and wisdom to open up to them about how you feel and to prepare you for any reaction that might occur. I know this is kind of a gloomy prospect, but if you do somehow die for this remember that you died for your faith, and that is a great thing in Allah's eyes.

Wow...that is powerful. Thought provoking...when I left Christianity for Islam it was based on that very same thing. I realized that we were worshipping Jesus...and came right on over and began worshipping Muhammed. As a matter of fact, I think the first thing I admitted to myself after about a year or so was "Islam is no different than Christianity....there is false worship going on over here too."

There is a large part of me that feels ashamed that I fell for it...I honestly thought I had found the correct way to worship God!

I think one the greatest mistakes we (humans) make is underestimating our mortal enemy satan.
in the west we never saw satan coming in the form of eastern traditions, unauthorized opinions,
poor translations of the Quran and cultural representation mistakened for religious practice.
                              O0

He said, "Since You have willed that I go astray,* I will skulk for them on Your straight path Say, "O followers of the scripture, why do you repel from the path of GOD those who wish to believe, and seek to distort it, even though you are witnesses?" GOD is never unaware of anything you do

Under the guise of their apparent faith, they repel the people from the path of GOD. Miserable indeed is what they do.

Walekum Salam, Welcome to the forum!

I can relate very much to your trepidation. I am fairly new to Islam but my personality and analytical mind have always approached it with a "show me proof" attitude, which inherently means that it will take a long time (if not forever) to understand/read/reflect on the Quran and its meanings. In the meantime I started to practice salat, fast for Ramadan, go to mosque, etc...but even on the intuitive level I have also felt something was "wrong" with many of the traditions I began to adapt. For example, I first began using a translated version of the prayer and every time I recited the passages about Mohammed I felt a strange feeling deep in my stomach. Somehow, I just knew it didn't fit. And now after joining this forum, I understand that my subconscious was recognizing it as worshiping someone other than God.

I also have a husband who was born Muslim - a Sunni. We have already had many heated discussions because he takes everything he was taught at face value and I take nothing at face value. He feels frustrated that I won't allow him to "lead me the right way" and that "i always need proof." And I am very anxious as to what his reaction will be now that I have found others who are reinforcing my initial arguments. If there is anyone who has any advice about how I can make peace with my husband while at the same time sharing my spiritual journey with him, I would be very appreciative.

                                      Peace cellobykasia..

Forgive my bluntness.. but I'll be frank...
Prepare for the worst... your husband is a 'damaged good' and cannot be changed.. thus keep it as it is..
Your children however still has some bright future... keep them away from the insanity of religion..
Our children don't deserve to inherit our insanity..

                                      Salam / Peace

Don't get terrified. God is with you.

Do not worry about your bluntness. I do, in fact, believe that in some ways you may be right. In the end, it is battle of the ego's that cannot be and only ends when one side lowers their sword. To have that peace, I think you are right, I must just accept him for who he is.
