Doesn't the Quran itself oppose forming sects, splitting off from humanity?
Isn't the quran simply saying be good , believe in the spirit of God?

why name ourselves "The Quranist" when we even here are so devided, on most of the matters?

I voted "No" on the poll. However, it is difficult for me not to start using the terms "quranist" or "quran only" or "one who take's Allah's verses as the only truth and nothing else" because the popularized Islam today has connotations of Sunnism. If I simply say "I'm Muslim" people automatically assume that I follow the Hadith. So no, I don't need to separate myself as a certain sect, but I find it difficult to avoid explaining why I don't wear a head scarf or why I don't pray in a mosque without having to mention that I follow the Quran alone. It's kind of inevitable. -\

I love how you summed up the Quran btw.

Isn't the quran simply saying be good , believe in the spirit of God?

      Indeed! yay

why name ourselves "The Quranist" when we even here are so devided, on most of the matters?

It sucks that even here people are still divided on matters. People will walk whichever path they want, I suppose. But I do think the Quran is meant for individuals to figure out things for ourselves rather than having some kind of clergy decide our way of life for us. I think the beauty of the Quran is that we are all required to utilize our brains and step away from the majority or herd mentality. The problem with this is, some of us end up trying our best to make sure that we're as 'different as possible' I guess, or we find someone with a similar mentality than us and stick to that grouping like glue. Only Allah guides to the truth and it is up to us to choose to be guided.

May Allah help us in sincerely asking for guidance to His path.

      peace

I also voted "no" as we are all individuals striving for the same goal. That goal being obeying the laws of God and striving on it's straight path that it has provided for us. Instead of saying muslim, if we know the actual TRANSLATION of muslim (muslimeen) is submitter or one who has submitted, then I simply say I am one who has submitted to God, a believer in the God's laws.

Those who divide themselves into sects do not belong with you. Their judgment rests with GOD, then He will inform them of everything they had done.

You shall submit to Him, reverence Him, observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and - whatever you do - do not ever fall into idol worship.

(Do not fall in idol worship,) like those who divide their religion into sects; each party rejoicing with what they have.

Ironically, they broke up into sects only after the knowledge had come to them, due to jealousy and resentment among themselves. If it were not for a predetermined decision from your Lord to respite them for a definite interim, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the later generations who inherited the scripture are full of doubts.

Muhammad was not a member of a sect, neither should we be members of a sect,
          we should only be submitters.

Who can utter better words than one who invites to GOD, works righteousness, and says, "I am one of the submitters"?

          Peace O0

The problem when you don't mane yourself is people end up forming a name for you. Names like Mutaziltes and Pharisees were not invented by their adherents but by external parties. The name Quranist (Quraniyoon) was first termed by the Egyptian authorities in the 70s when they were cracking down on the movement. The media then circulated that word. Labels for a movement is going to happen regardless or people can not refer to them. Its a way to identify. Those who say otherwise are thinking individually. But it will happen regardless or else people won't be able to refer to a certain group.

Not most of the matters but we tend to focus on some of those differences. These differences are not a problem as long as they don't lead to seperation. The Quran allowed differences (ikhtilaf) but forbade seperation (iftiraq). Sects comes when we look for external sources for guidance outside the scriptures. They usually happen after people were given the scriptures and then added or deleted many aspects of it.

No! you are safe when you truly follow the guidance from Allah. No group; no individual can protect you except Allah.
I voted No, I call myself a Muslim and I often clarify to other fellow Muslims I meet that I do not follow hadiths. Other than that I am not bothered by how non-muslims see me, as they will usually think I am trying to modernise Islam so I dont bother unless I sense a serious interest in my deen.

                        Have some respect.

So, if no one follows the truth, as you understand it, and you are socially isolated in your beliefs, does that mean you will deny the truth which your Rab has inspired unto you for the sake of being in a group.

When I rejected the hadith, I did not know anyone else who had done the same. Allah ta'ala guided me to His truth. I realised with His guidance that these things called hadith are nonesensical. I was not even aware that there were people that actually rejected hadith. I was not interested in any group. What benefit is any group to me, when my life is a preparation for my return to my Lord.

Hmm. I never thought of that! It's not the differences that matter, but the separating that matters. Interesting.

I would love to have a group of true believers, to get to know them personally and to socialise with them, but on a forum there is no way one can form a group. On forums many people hide behind a fake identity and often have an ulterior agenda so, yes one can still deduce who holds what beliefs, but how does one pick like minded people from different corners of the world and form a group on social level? You tell me.

                                        Possible as only today I was thinking about a hadith, which said something like this 'You should wish for your brother what you wish for yourself' and I thought this could be an everyday version of what the Qur'an says;
832 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure,
833 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due.
