    Hello people,
"One of these ahaadeeth was narrated by Ibn Maajah (3377) from ?Abd-Allaah ibn ?Amr who said The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said ?Whoever drinks alcohol and gets drunk, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days and if he dies he will go to Hell. But if he repents, Allaah will accept his repentance. If he again drinks alcohol and gets drunk, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days and if he dies he will go to Hell. But if he repents, Allaah will accept his repentance. If he again drinks alcohol and gets drunk, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days and if he dies he will go to Hell. But if he repents, Allaah will accept his repentance. If he commits (this sin) again, then Allaah pledges to make him drink the mud of khabaal on the Day of Resurrection.? They asked, ?O Messenger of Allaah, what is the mud of khabaal?? He said, ?The juices of the people of Hell.? "

It is stated above that "Whoever drinks alcohol and GETS DRUNK .. " What if I drink but don't get drunk? like drink just a shot or something? Will the same rules apply? I mean will I be able to pray for 40 days or not?

      Heyy Nasserals

Alcohol Drinking can start as a Moderate Drinker kind of thing, but it will take no time to become a drunkard.

I will advice you to consider Quran about these issues and leave in trash the dogmatic and heresy teachings of Hadith. If you want to know what prophet wanted to say, "You will find that in Quran and never in the Hadiths, Sahih or otherwise

      Peace
      Harun

        Hey Harun
Thank you but I was just really curious. I drank 2 shots a few nights ago. I didn't get drunk. I was only a little bit light headed and it felt really good. So I was just wondering, does it make a difference as to how much I drink? I mean is it more haram to drink a lot than to drink less?
        thanx!

          Peace

See, that's the thing with Hadith, they will confuse the heck out of you.

From what I read in the Quran, intoxicants aren't to be used for recreational purposes.

Once you start the drinking process, because the liquid impairs your mind and judgment, it's very difficult to figure out as to where you need to stop. There's also peer pressure that can get in the way.

Most people start off as moderate drinkers (social drinkers). However, there is always a segment (small or large) of the population that will lack the ability to be responsible drinkers. I've seen how alcoholism has the tendency to destroy entire communities. People will use the bottle as a crutch when things spiral out of control. I've seen and heard the most irrational behavior being exhibited from otherwise decent people, who over do it with the alcohol. Alcohol makes you a fool. Plus, that stuff smells vile, though I've never tasted it.

Even those who realize they have a problem, find it so difficult to fight the addiction. Sadly, so many of them fail. Have you seen the drunk driving stats in your country? They look pretty crazy where I'm from. All those lives that potentially could have been saved...
The only good I see in it is in relation to medicinal uses or perhaps within cooking. In both bases, alcohol is usually used very minimally and the chances of becoming drunk are little to none.

Some crazy women are so addicted that when they become pregnant, they find it difficult to stop with those glasses of wine before bed. Children with fetal alcohol syndrome do exist.

So, yes there is good in it, but the bad will outweigh the good. God gives us the warnings, and it's only for our own good.

The Lord of the Worlds has ordained in the Quran that Alcohol and Gambling are Satanic Devices. They may have some good uses but they inflict more damage. I think there is no harm in unintentional deeds, but I urge you to go through the Quranic verses and decide yourself why you should abandon alcohol.

            Peace and Greetings,

            Welcome to the Forum,

            Peace
            Harun.

I know that it's a major sin and I know that it's haram to drink just a little. But whats more haram, drinking a lot or drinking a little? Do they have the same consequences?

Bro, Forget whether Alcohol is Haram or anything. Quran says they are Satanic Devices.

Taking a shot may not be a sin in itself, but in the long run it can give rise to addiction, indecent behaviour etc etc.

So research the verses, apply logic and decide for yourself why you should ABANDON it from the START.

I hope people here will correct if I am wrong at any point.

                Peace,
                Harun

I have always wondered about that one. If there are several sentences with differing statements in the Koran, doesn't this indicate a degree of uncertainty around alcohol consumption and intoxicants?

Can any human really claim with any degree of certainty which command was "revealed" earlier or later and what the intentions are?

Just as is the case with pork, we can't avoid alcohol nowadays. If it's not in medicine we have it in window cleaners or car fluids as isopropyl alcohol.

It seems a bit like the tree in paradise here's a tree. It's great. Don't touch it.
Would an all-merciful god really send a person for eternal torment in the hell-fire for drinking a glass of champagne on their birthday?

Yes, God will send him to hellfire, for that single glass of champagne?

And while there , he will find Satan and the inmates having a party, plenty more beer, champagne and wines later, they all become drunk and rowdy and break the barrier between hell and paradise.
God will confront Satan, telling him to mend the barrier or He will Sue him. Satan will have a giggle and arrogantly tells God that the lawsuit will be useless, because all the lawyers are with him in hell!

I am only kidding.( sorry lawyers, it was a joke there are some good ,honest lawyers?)

                      Nobody knows except God.

                      Peace.

Alcohol for cleaning or even can be used in perfumes....etc are allowed, only drinking aren't allowed.

Actually Alcohol was first discovered as pure substance by the muslim scientist Muhammad ibn Zakariy Rz

Razi developed several chemical instruments that remain in use to this day. He is known to have perfected methods of distillation and extraction, which have led to his discovery of sulfuric acid, by dry distillation of vitriol (al-zajat), and alcohol(ethanol). These discoveries paved the way for other Persian alchemists, as did the discovery of various other mineral acids by Jabir Ibn Hayyan (known as Geber in Europe)). As a pioneer of alchemy, Razi was the first to distill/refine petroleum and produce kerosene (later used as lamp oil and jet fuel)).

By means of intoxicants and games of chance Satan seeks only to sow enmity and hatred among you, and to turn you away from the remembrance of God and from prayer. Will you not, then, desist? (591)

                          What is the major sin?

To induce an intoxiation by drinking an alchoholic beverage

                          OR

To drink a beverage that contains alcohol

The Quran gives us good examples to avoid over-consumption in many fields. The story of Lot probably the best known, but others are that we are to give our excess to the poor, we are to dress modest (righteous)....there are many examples of this where Allah gives us the guidance that yes, we can enjoy life but do not let those enjoyments make you forget to walk the straight path and forget about Allah.

Alcohol and gambling are very dangerous because they are addictive, so Allah gives us a stern warning. Many people choose not to touch either because of this warning. But it is still up to you to decide if having one drink is a sin. Each and every person here can only give you his or her personal reflection and their relationship to alcohol. My personal reflection is that if the alcohol enhances the experience of eating, then it is ok......a glass of wine to an excellent steak or a hamburger and a cold beer on a hot summer day.

Yes, God will send him to hellfire, for that single glass of champagne?

So what happened to the all merciful?

And while there , he will find Satan and the inmates having a party, plenty more beer, champagne and wines later, they all become drunk and rowdy and break the barrier between hell and paradise.

Well, since god is all-present or omnipresent, I will also find god there.

Why do you equate alcohol with drunk?
Why do you equate alcohol with rowdy behaviour?
Why do you automatically assume that a glass of champagne will lead to excess consumption of more and other types of alcohol?
Why do you think think there is - and what is the definition of - a barrier between hell and paradise?

How do you know this? Does the Koran specify this somewhere? No, of course not. It's your rational thinking kicking in. But that's not my point. I am trying to understand how Muslims determine what is meant by what sentences and how this determines everyday life.

Actually Alcohol was first discovered as pure substance by the muslim scientist Muhammad ibn Zakariy Rz

Is that the Persian al Razi who famously said

?You claim that the evidentiary miracle is present and available, namely, the Koran. You say "Whoever denies it, let him produce a similar one." Indeed, we shall produce a thousand similar, from the works of rhetoricians, eloquent speakers and valiant poets, which are more appropriately phrased and state the issues more succinctly. They convey the meaning better and their rhymed prose is in better meter. ... By God what you say astonishes us! You are talking about a work which recounts ancient myths, and which at the same time is full of contradictions and does not contain any useful information or explanation. Then you say "Produce something like it"?!?

Then this would indicate this al Razi was not at all a Muslim, but the opposite. I get this a lot that people with Arabic names are automatically assumed to be Muslims.

O believers, wine and arrow-shuffling, idols and divining-arrows are an abomination, some of Satans work; so avoid it; haply So you will prosper. (590)

So how do you determine whether alcohol has its uses or is an abomination? How do you correlate medicine and Satan's work? How do you think Satan managed to sneak into heaven and install entire rivers of wine?

                                  Peace

                                    Peace stops,

We cannot care for someone who is not interested in listening and is just coming with argument upon argument.

I am sure good logic cares to some extent, but you are responsible yourself for your life.

It is the state of getting intoxicated, for recreational use, which is forbidden, not medical or other uses of alcohol and drugs. The Quran is to be taken rationally.

                                      Peace,

Yup. We're all responsible for ourselves in the end. We're just giving you our perspective based on the Quran. In the end, it's up for you to decide as to what you want to do.

There is nothing that can convince me that alcohol consumption for recreational purposes is permissible. So, I'll just continue to abstain from it.

                                        Prophet Muhammad Drank Wine

Sahih Muslim "Drinks, Drinking wine and fermentation"

                                        Narrated by Gaber bin Abdullah
We were with the messenger of Allah, PBUH and he asked for a drink. One of his men said "Oh Messenger of Allah, Can we offer you wine to drink?" He said Yes. He (Gaber) went out looking for the drink and came back with a cup of wine. The messenger (Peace Be Upon him) asked, ?Have you covered it with a twig in a transverse manner? He (Gaber) said, ?Yes? and he (Muhammad) drank.

I was telling you a joke, you took it serious?

The joke part I took as a joke and replied jestingly, yes. The serious part I took serious and asked questions to clarify how this is interpreted by you.

I only worry about my own neck. For the record, Enjoy what God has provided for you, and be appreciative.

Yep! That's just about the best advice anyone can offer.
