    Hi !

Can somebody explain to me what will happen to us after death according to Qur'an ?

If you are a true believer will you go directly into paradise or will you wait till Day of Judgment ?
What if you are a true believer(you believe in God, Quran, Day of Jugment, prophets) but you don't do zaqat, salat, fasting during ramadan etc?
What if you are not muslim but you are a good man ?
what if you are not muslim and you are a bad man ?
Is it true that angles "beat" spirit of unbelievers and what does it mean ? does it mean that they do it till the day of jugment ? what about "the life after death will be similar to dreaming" and what does it stands for ? for believers, for unbelievers ?
what about "life in the grave" ?
Can dead people hear us ?
    and the last one
Can somebody explain what is the "ticket to paradise", which are the major rules we must follow to get "ticket to paradise" and which are the major rules "we must follow" to destroy our chance of getting "ticket of paradise" ?

and which are the major rules "we must follow" to destroy our chance of getting "ticket of paradise"

my understanding so far is, when you die, you'll sleep, and suddenly you awake when the judgement day happening, there you'll be judged by God according to your Faith to Him AND your works during your lifetime

          Peace be with you.

Can somebody explain to me what will happen to us after death according to Qur'an ?

I believe that after death, our souls will be behind a barrier (physical or non-physical, I don?t know) until Allah resurrects us in the Day of Judgement.

"so that I might act righteously in whatever I have failed !? Nay, it is indeed but a word that he utters for behind those there is a barrier until the Day when all will be raised from the dead!" (23100)

What if you are a true believer(you believe in God, Quran, Day of Jugment, prophets) but you don't do zaqat, salat, fasting during ramadan etc?

If the person is a true believer, then he/she is required to practice the deen as best as possible, otherwise the person maybe living his/her life being misguided.

"who listen to what is said and follow what is best in it. These are the ones God has guided; these are the people endowed with understanding." (391

What if you are not muslim but you are a good man ?

If a person is a good man, but a non-believer, then his/her good deeds in this world will be of no avail in the Day of Judgement . The person MUST be a muslim (a submitter to Allah), and has to die as a muslim.

"AS FOR THOSE who are bent on denying the truth and on barring from the path of God - all their deeds will He let go to waste;" (471)

"but as for those who are bent on denying the truth, ill fortune awaits them, since He will let all their deeds go to waste." (47

"Believers, fear God as is His due, and when death comes, be in a state of complete submission to Him." (3102)

what if you are not muslim and you are a bad man ?

Then the person will go to hell, unless God wills otherwise.

Is it true that angles "beat" spirit of unbelievers and what does it mean ? does it mean that they do it till the day of judgement ?

          You?re talking about 850-51.

AND IF thou couldst but see when He causes those who are bent on denying the truth to die the angels will strike their faces and their backs, and "Taste suffering through fire in return for what your own hands have wrought - for, never does God do the least wrong to His creatures!" (850-51)

I?m not sure, but I don?t think they will do it until the day of judgement.

what about "the life after death will be similar to dreaming" and what does it stands for ? for believers, for unbelievers ?

In fact, this worldly life is an illusion/dream.

"?The life of this world is no more than an illusion." (3185)

"The life of this world is no more than illusion and vanity, while the abode of the Hereafter is far better for the righteous. Do you not understand?" (632)

"?This worldly life is no more than a temporary illusion." (5720)

what about "life in the grave" ?

I don't think there is any proof in the Qur'an of the existence of a life in the grave.

Can dead people hear us ?

          No.

Can somebody explain what is the "ticket to paradise", which are the major rules we must follow to get "ticket to paradise" and which are the major rules "we must follow" to destroy our chance of getting "ticket of paradise" ?

Follow the Qur?an as best as possible.

          Peace.

My grandad just died recently and this question has been on my mind for a bit now.

Does our soul just sleep til the day of judgement yet we still have dreams and such? What IS the soul? I always imagine it as a special kind of energy. It makes sense when i think of a person who dies naturally whilst sleeping, but what about someone who is blown to pieces (god forbid..)? It's difficult imagining where the "nafs" is at that point.

            Any thoughts and feelings?

            peace

              Hi !

Can somebody explain to me what will happen to us after death according to Qur'an ?
If you are a true believer will you go directly into paradise or will you wait till Day of Judgment ?

You would wait from the time of your death to the Lasting Day i.e. from now onwards up to billions or trillions or zillions of years which time or period is with Allah alone. Calendar years are our material and hourly knowledge. But with Allah, such time will pass away like the winking of an eye.

1677 And Allah's is the unseen of the heavens and the earth; and the matter of the hour is but as the twinkling of an eye or it is even nearer; surely Allah has power over all things.

Those who died while they were living as witnesses, or, as living examples to the ayats of Allah are not to be called as dead but are raised as living souls; and true to His word, Allah feeds them and dignifies them in His nearness-

                1. And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive and are provided sustenance from their God. They rejoice on account of favor from Allah and His grace, and that Allah will not waste the reward of the believers

They are raised to the seven heavens above the lowest sky which we all see as violet in colour in the deep of the night. And the foremost shall be living in the skies of the other six coloured firmaments such as the indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and the red skies above the first. Allah created the seven skies and the like thereof on the earth that which we see as rainbow

              1. Allah it is who hath created seven heavens, and of the earth the like thereof. The commandment cometh down among them slowly, that ye may know that Allah is Able to do all things, and that Allah surroundeth all things in knowledge.

The foremost people are raised to the seven skies above to join the righteous bondsmen of Allah; and then later on they would enter the Paradise.

              1. "Enter you, then, among My honoured bondsmen.
              2. "And enter you My Paradise!"

And again these witnesses who would live in the seven heavens are the foremost in nearness to Allah. They are waiting to enter the paradise with all eagerness. They comprise of the malayika, the prophets, the messengers, the bondsmen of Allah such as the martyrs, the companions and the foremost believers. These are the people placed in the seven heavens and are people living at the heights of grace.

              1. Between them is a veil. And high above them all are the men foremost, who know them all by their marks. And they call unto the dwellers of the Garden Peace be unto you! They have not entered it yet; but for sure they are waiting.

From below the lowest sky to the surface of the earth is the dwelling place of jinn and men. While man's abode is on the surface of the earth, the jinn's live above the ground and yet both the beings, the jinn and the men live within the atmosphere encompassing the earth. With all the knowledge of jinn and men put together, until the end of the universe, they can reach up to the first sky to find that the sky is made up of strongest guards, for, to go beyond this sky is forbidden for men and jinn. Those who try to cross this barrier, the first sky, will find the blazing fire seizing them. As men and jinn that we are, we cannot see them nor can we hear the talks of the most honoured and dignified i.e. the dwellers of the seven heavens. Thus they are the pure souls well-protected by Allah from all the evils and satanic influences of jinn and men.

72 8.9. And that we jinns sought to reach the sky, but we found it filled with strong guards and flaming fires. And that we used to sit in hiding-places thereof to steal a hearing, but he who would try to overhear now would find a flame lying in wait for him.

Therefore, the people who lived as witness to the ayats of Allah will be the foremost and in nearness to Allah; they would enter the seven skies as their finest and the most beautiful abode for living their promised life, until such time they enter the heavens on the Lasting Day.

Then there are people, who lived as close associates to shaitaan with pride and arrogance belying Quran; causing mischief and chaos rejecting Allah, His apostles chosen from among the malayika Jibril, Mikhail, and the prophets and messengers chosen from among men. Such of these would be the dwellers of the bottom most hell; and they are the fuels of hell- fire too. The most perfect example of such people are the likes of Firaun and his people. After their lives are captured they would be brought before the hell fire in the morning and in the evening so that they would suffer in their mind every moment until the Hour of execution, as the one in the death row waiting for his gallows.

40 46. In front of the Fire will they be brought, morning and evening And the sentence will be on the Day that Judgment will be established "Cast ye the People of Firaun into the severest Penalty!"

And as for those upon who the judgement is pronounced as "Enter, the hell!" - but not destined to the bottom most hell would be put to a state of sleep.

8 50. And if you could see when the angels take away the souls of those who disbelieve at death, they smite their faces and their backs, saying "Taste the punishment of the blazing Fire."

These are the people of the left-hand and are fully aware of their judgement pronounced upon them. On the Hour of Resounding, they would wake up from their graves and say

36 52. "Ah! Woe unto us! Who hath woken us up from our beds of repose?"... "This is what the Most Gracious had promised. And true was the word of the messengers!"

37 20. They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Execution!"

And there are the people of the right-hand who the malayika greeted with 'Salam' at death. They would be greeted with Salam by the foremost for they would be able to identify the right-hand people by their marks.

              1. Between them is a veil. And high above them all are the men foremost, who know them all by their marks. And they call unto the dwellers of the Garden Peace be unto you! They have not entered it yet; but for sure they are waiting.

              fazlur rahman.

From my Quranic studies, after death there is no punishment prior to the day of judgement, and it is akin to sleep/dreaming. There is hints that those who are "bad" will experience a bad dream during this time, and those "good" will experience a good dream.

Also, you mentioned one verse which I happened to analyse here http//www.quran434.com/wife-beating-islam.html

Walaw tara ith yatawaffa allatheena kafaroo almala-ikatu yadriboona wujoohahum wa adbarahum wa thooqoo AAathaba al hareeqi
= And if you could but see when the angels/controllers* are taking (unto themselves, i.e. at death) those who reject striking their faces/fronts and backs and (say) "taste the penalty of the fire."

Fakayfa itha tawaffathumu almalaikatu yadriboona wujoohahum wa adbarahum
= So/then how (will it be) when the angels/controllers* take them (unto themselves, i.e. in death) striking their faces/fronts and their backs?

*angels is better translated as controllers, i.e. forces in control of certain functions/laws. There are some controllers we know about, e.g. those found in nature F=ma, E=mc? etc. and some we do not know about.

In the above two verses, translators commonly use "beat / strike / smite", and whilst this may seem acceptable on the surface this translation does have significant problems when examined more closely

In 850 it says if only you could see, thus clearly implying that what the controllers are doing cannot be seen. And since it is at the time of death, then the controllers cannot be striking the physical fronts/faces and backs as this would be observable. It could be suggested that at death, this is a special/unique transition phase so perhaps the controllers are indeed beating/striking but in a different form somehow, and the living simply cannot see it.

It causes problems with verses such as 737, 1628, 851, 693-94 in which the controllers are in communication with people being taken at death, and the ones taken are listening properly and answering, but this is highly unlikely if they are being beaten at the same time!

It causes a clear problem with 693 when it describes the controllers as stretching/extending forth or opening their hands/powers when taking them at death saying "Bring out your souls...". This sounds unlike striking/beating, and there is no implication of this in the verse at all.

If this is indeed a beating/striking causing pain in some way, then this would be the only example in The Quran of an explicit punishment between death and the 'day of obligation/judgement/requital/due'.

In contrast, the controllers take those who are good with a greeting of peace/salam in 1632 and there is no mention of taking them gently for example.

To explain away these anomalies it could be suggested 850 and 4727 refer to post Judgement not at death, which would be much more plausible if DRB is interpreted in a punishment way, i.e. beat/strike, but no trasnlator or tafsir/interpretation I have read gives this option.
Thus, is there possibly a more suitable translation? Whatever the controllers are doing it is to their "fronts and backs" and this creates an imagery of a complete surrounding, coming at them from all directions, i.e. there is no escape. This imagery is similar to 693 mentioned above. Further, see 661 and 2139. The only other occurrence of the exact same form "yadriboona" is in 7320 in which it means journey or go/move about. Thus, taking the evidence into account, the Classical Arabic meanings of DRB and its usage in The Quran, it could be translated as the controllers set/march on or put forth or go/move about their fronts and backs, i.e. come at them from all directions. Even the English translation of "strike" has similar imagery to this, but "beat" does not. That is not to say it cannot mean "beat", it theoretically could, but it is not a particularly sound translation when cross-referenced.
As a side note, in M. Asad's notes, he says the early commentator Razi saw this phrase as an allegory "They have utter darkness behind them and utter darkness before them", suggesting he did not agree with the commonly stated understanding of beating/striking literally.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

God speaks from three groups 'the right' , 'the left' , the foremost (Sura 57) 'right-handed is a term to describe justice, Goodness as the left is an allegory for the Unjust, oppressors, disbelievers who did bad. And then we see the 'foremost' - the most near from God.

And regarding 850, Edip excluded the word "death" from this verse in his translation

If you could only see as the angels take those who have rejected, they strike their faces and their backs "Taste the punishment of the blazing fire!" (850)

Do you think this interpretation could be correct?

God speaks from three groups 'the right' , 'the left' , the foremost (Sura 57) 'right-handed is a term to describe justice, Goodness as the left is an allegory for the Unjust, oppressors, disbelievers who did bad. And then we see the 'foremost' - the most near from God.
                          peace )

Thank you. Is there a difference in later judgment? Why do you think it is called "right" and not "justice"?
I don't understand what would be the difference for believers that would put them into the "foremost" group - or are there criteria I am not aware of?

                            w/salaam,

Can you please tell me where those hints are in the Quran which tell us that the "bad" will experience a bad dream during this time, and the "good" will experience a good dream?

Not from memory no, sorry. It's from general Quran reading. I do recall a verse regarding Pharoah being shown fire but not actually punished prior to j-day, and in other verses it discusses how the dead will not know how long they were dead for, or something like that. I do know there is no clear punishment prior to j-day from Quran, as I researched this specifically one time.

Do you think this interpretation could be correct?

It is theoretically possible, but I do not consider it the most likely. See previous post.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

hose who died while they were living as witnesses, or, as living examples to the ayats of Allah are not to be called as dead but are raised as living souls; and true to His word, Allah feeds them and dignifies them in His nearness-

                                    1. And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive and are provided sustenance from their God. They rejoice on account of favor from Allah and His grace, and that Allah will not waste the reward of the believers

i think the word in Arabic is killed not died. i don't know if this term includes the "living examples to the ayats of Allah'?
what means the term killed in the way of Allah?

They are raised to the seven heavens above the lowest sky which we all see as violet in colour in the deep of the night. And the foremost shall be living in the skies of the other six coloured firmaments such as the indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and the red skies above the first. Allah created the seven skies and the like thereof on the earth that which we see as rainbow

i know there exist many interpretations about 'the seven skies' - your explanation is only one from those interpretations - from where you get that the foremost shall be living in the skies of the other six colored firmaments??

                                  1. Allah it is who hath created seven heavens, and of the earth the like thereof. The commandment cometh down among them slowly, that ye may know that Allah is Able to do all things, and that Allah surroundeth all things in knowledge.

                                  here other translations
6512 God who created seven heavens and the same number of earths. His command descends between them, that you may know that God is capable of all things, and that God has encompassed all things with His knowledge.3

6512 God who created seven heavens and the same number of Earths. His command descends between them, that you may know that God is capable of all things, and that God has encompassed all things with His knowledge.
                                  Muhammad Asad
6512 GOD is He who has created seven heavens,18 and, like them, of the earth. Through all of them flows down from on high, unceasingly, His will,19 so that you might come to know that God has the power to will anything, and that God encompasses all things with His knowledge.
Rashad Khalifa Seven Universes And Seven Earths
6512 GOD created seven universes and the same number of earths. The commands flow among them. This is to let you know that GOD is Omnipotent, and that GOD is fully aware of all things.3
                                  Shabbir Ahmed
6512 God is He who has created seven cosmic systems, and like them, of the lows. Through all of them descends His command that you may know that God has power over all things. And that God encompasses all things in His knowledge.[/color

The foremost people are raised to the seven skies above to join the righteous bondsmen of Allah; and then later on they would enter the Paradise.

the number seven is probably an allegorical expression for 'many' or 'much'- this just another interpretation for 'seven skies'..
the Quran speaks from seven skies but God never give us details.

                                  Any thoughts and feelings?

                                  peace

i personally don't think that we are dreaming after the death until the day of judgement - for me it seems that the Quran tell us that he will resurrect us on this day and AFTER we will see /dream our new life, but i don't study this deeply.

                                    Peace,

The nafs or mind is an entity to receive the glad tidings and the admonitions through His Ruh, as He sends down His Soulful command upon the hearts of people as wahi which if one abides by following what is intuited to him as lawful and rejecting what is intuited as unlawful and forbidden this criterion shall be the guidance and one's need of tomorrow until his life ends here so that he shall gain belief in Him, and shall live with the help of the mightiest power in this world, and shall attain the greatest life in the hereafter. The most perfect example of the descent of wahi upon our Ruh is, the rare individuals coming around from the terminal stages of their so called 'diagnostic-diseases', and out of their 'intensive care-death beds' much to the dismay and disbelief of the arrogant doctors and specialists who with all their diagnoses and assuredness destined them to death, even going to the extent of predicting their time of death. Such believers who were made to stand steadfast by the word of their God, when they totally got rid of the disease, swishing away the doctors, they, to their disappointment, displeasure and disbelief would say It is a medical miracle! Despite our medicines he survived! Some other saner ones would say It is his will power to survive, he got over the terrible disease! Yet, the believers standing as a grand witness to this, shall say "Woe unto us; it is Allah alone who cures of all our hardships; what happened to us that we believed doctors would save our lives while we know only Allah knows what life is? Surely, the life is abstract power while the medicines are manifest destruction of the life force! Doctors are mute-mutaters; maimers and truncaters! And we shall not associate these people anymore to the only God, for our hale and hearty life."

As believers we would now see the incidents as His Will Be Done; If His Will Is Our Wish. Every human's life is as simple as this.

A patient's Will to get over the disease it is the Wish and Command of his God. Or, his 'Wish-to-survive' is the Will of his Mighty God who says from His Soul, to His Ruh He has placed in every human as the 'heart' of his life; and this is one's "real heart". Those who know what 'Ruh' is, Allah is communicating to him direct, through wahi, the Intuitive Inspiration. This is the only way, the wahi, shall Allah Reveal His guidance, His prophecy through glad tidings and admonition

Allah communicates to us through three ways All through one's life, He keeps sending down His Wahi-Inspiration to His Ruh in his heart this is the direct revelation by which we distinguish between the right and the wrong. Unless we believe only in Allah, and unless our receiver i.e. our Ruh is pure from all sorts of shirks or association to God, our hearts are deaf to receive the wahi or the prophesy.

Under such circumstance, when we are deaf and dumb because of our varying degrees of association to God, then He communicates with us His Guidance from behind a veil i.e. through the Malayika who too are veiled to our naked eyes but speaks through our mind,- of God's Soul, His Will for us; since the malayika are veiled we cannot see unless they come in the perfect form of a human-being; the chosen messengers from among the malayika, Jibril and Mikhail in our Ruh, are now the mediators between our God and us; this intermediary role to convey the wahi by the angel-messengers has become mandatory to strengthen the word of God in us and to guide us in the straight path, and to make us believe in the Guidance of Allah, before our time runs out and before we lose sight of our angel-messengers too and all our hopes of living a respectful and dignified life on this earth. At this, we almost get ourselves blindfolded and enter into false beliefs and thus leave astray.

We are on our final journey in our life with this state of acquired and cultivated deafness and blindness when our mind situation is this worse and our belief in the only God and God alone, had dwindled to such a low and, is on the verge of being totally lost from His Way, the messengers are chosen from among the men of our own people, in our own tongue to communicate the wahi of Allah and to make us understand the presence of the same wahi in our minds that which we have been ignoring and rejecting all along. The prophets and the messengers give us guidance, thought, reminders, wisdom to see and hear the words of Allah happening all around us all of such shall finally culminate in our Ruh for reflection to get back our hearing and seeing, and guide us to hear, see and get at the wahi of Allah, directly before the appointed angels for each of us take our Ruh back to Allah and thus causing the end.

                                    sushi1992,

Salam drfazlhose who died while they were living as witnesses, or, as living examples to the ayats of Allah are not to be called as dead but are raised as living souls; and true to His word, Allah feeds them and dignifies them in His nearness-

                                        1. And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive and are provided sustenance from their God. They rejoice on account of favor from Allah and His grace, and that Allah will not waste the reward of the believers

i think the word in Arabic is killed not died. i don't know if this term includes the "living examples to the ayats of Allah'?
what means the term killed in the way of Allah?

                                      salam mirjamnur,

It is pertinent here to have an introduction about my stand on Quran so that there need not be any interjections. There is a vast difference between understanding by way of sense; and, understanding by way of material human source, the language which only caters to the mind of the current state of affairs of human beings. I only observe and follow the most sensible understanding of Quran and never do I entertain the human dictionaries and their obsolete languages when it is juxtaposed to the sense of Quran. Some 50 years ago, there were only one or two meanings for each word in dictionary; but now hundreds of meanings as thesauruses to each word we speak and they were divulging further and further. There will not be a meaningful end to any discussion if follow the human dictionaries to the words of Allah. If you begin to unravel the words of Allah, the seas of ink and seven more such seas will be blotted out to its last drop, yet, the definitions will not be over. So we lean on to our Ruh, and listen to the sense with our stare not moving away from it.

                                      You say
i think the word in Arabic is killed not died. i don't know if this term includes the "living examples to the ayats of Allah'?
what means the term killed in the way of Allah?

Allah says there is no discrepancy whatsoever between the ayats of Quran; and also, there is no contradiction between one ayat and the other ayats of Quran. Now I am giving another ayat, and you give me an explanation without contradicting or showing any discrepancy in sense, to the ayats mentioned below. You can put any word kill or die wherever you want, but bring sense without contradicting the two ayats below.

3157 And if you are killed in the cause of Allah or die - then forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than whatever they accumulate in this world.

                                        1. And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive and are provided sustenance from their God. They rejoice on account of favor from Allah and His grace, and that Allah will not waste the reward of the believers

Once we understand this, thereafter it will be easier to sense the rest of our discussion to the following

6512 GOD is He who has created seven heavens,18 and, like them, of the earth. Through all of them flows down from on high, unceasingly, His will,19 so that you might come to know that God has the power to will anything, and that God encompasses all things with His knowledge.

The foremost people are raised to the seven skies above to join the righteous bondsmen of Allah; and then later on they would enter the Paradise.

the number seven is probably an allegorical expression for 'many' or 'much'- this just another interpretation for 'seven skies'..
the Quran speaks from seven skies but God never give us details.
                                      peace.

The prophets and the messengers give us guidance, thought, reminders, wisdom to see and hear the words of Allah happening all around us all of such shall finally culminate in our Ruh for reflection to get back our hearing and seeing, and guide us to hear, see and get at the wahi of Allah, directly before the appointed angels for each of us take our Ruh back to Allah and thus causing the end.

                                        sushi1992,

                                        Peace drfazl,
Very interesting post! I can relate to it very much through my own experiences and observations. These modes of communication you speak about, it is amazing that we never hear about them from religions (at least I haven't). To me, in my own experience of religious people, it seems most of them are totally oblivious to communication with God, despite the fact that this is what religions SHOULD speak about most. Instead it seems that the religious people are just concerned with which team (which religion in the world) is winning, as if it is some sports competition where you judge your competitors as false or satanic. Religion is totally absorbed in i) philosophy, ii) exercises in interal conformance, and iii) judging others.

I wonder how one can develop one's openness and softness in order to reduce one's restistance and rejection of the connection. We have to chip away at our resistance in order to open up channels of communication. This should be our sole priority in life since without this we are lost. To me this is hard work...

I think i understand what you mean. But when i read in 3.166 until 3.1seven3 (sorry the number seven is broken) then the context speaks clear from war for this i'm now not sure if the 'died in the way of Allah/ or killed in the way of Allah' means here concrete killed in the warfare.
I like your interpretation more- but i'm not sure about it- after your conclusions thus all believers in the way of Allah (the believers who do good deeds / aminu wa amilus salihati) would not really die but already dwell in paradise. But what will happen to those on the day of judgment?
God speaks from the fact that He would resurrected on that day ALL the people from their graves, or maybe i understand anything wrong or overlooked something?? In my mind was Sura al Qamar , verse seven - but when i read it now again it could be that Allah speaks here only from the unbelievers? But in the next Aya the unbelievers are mentioned as included in the previous. hmm

                                          Thank you for clarification.

You have given references of various humans' preferred outlooks; you can allow my translation as the last. It is for you to choose the best of them all.
