But how do you know that this is the golden rule?

    Peace brother,

I think you're right. I don't think the Golden rule is complete without - believe in Allah, the last day as well as do good. Because part of doing good is not rejecting the clear signs.

Argh.. nevermind, my bad as I just realized lol

No... you were onto something. Because if Allah is the Truth, how can we ignore Allah, how can that not be part of the most important 'Golden Rule'?

Good question. The Golden Rule would mean that you should feed a poor person because if you yourself were poor and hungry you would like others to help you and give you food out of kindness.

See how beautiful the Golden Rule is. Problem is Golden Rule is never mentioned in Quran, only in Hadith. Alhamdulillah.

      Peace,

The Quran mentions exactly that and more. The Quran makes your Golden Rule practical, and gives examples and further guidance.

        peace sister

Well I agree with you but I dont see anywhere where the golden rule has been applied properly, do you?

And what if someone is self destructive... how would he understand the golden rule ???

        Peace sister,

In all fairness sister, I did mention that the whole world has been lacking the application of the Golden rule. What I meant was that Christianity has this explicitly written down... but even within its traditions and past it didn't put it into practice.

In terms of self destructive people... I know what you mean because I once made a similar point somewhere on here. Although I reconsidered it a bit. The Golden Rule occurs within the context of religion for example Christianity, where they will say things like 'love thy neighbour'. So, it seems as though a self destructive person would always have trouble applying any moral rules because they'd pick the negative. Having said that, as we are born with moral values and Allah swt has bestowed that upon us as well as the ability to repent, I believe people would know what these things really mean... they would still understand morality etc. Those are my thoughts on it.

"Never will you attain the good until you spend from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it."
          (Sahih International)

"And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel by that which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity as though he was a devoted friend."
          (Sahih International)

"And those who were settled in al-Madinah and the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given but give preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful."
          (Sahih International)

"They fulfill vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread."
"And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive"
", "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude."
          (Sahih International)

The lack of an explicit Golden Rule is an argument islamophobes love to use. However, by Quranic principle we are supposed to be good to everyone bar people aggressing us (and even that is subject to it's own set of principles) It's a shame how many muslims and non-muslims seem to ignore this principle these days.

Yes it applies to all humanity

Translation Treat people the way you love them to treat you (Muslim Sharif)

If it applies to non-Sunnis then how does hadithism justify slavery of non-Sunnis, stoning of women, and invasion of foreign countries like the Arab invasion of India ? And why does zakat not apply to non-Sunnis, or what about killing murdads?

First of all this is a different topic, which requires more explanation. Briefly I will say that stoning of women is not for fun, it is a punishment for women who commit adultery. If men commit adultery (Zina) then they will also be stoned to death according to Shariah.

Zakat is for Believers. If non-Muslims want to pay Zakat we will be happy, no one is stopping them.

And as for invasions - well in war the winning army conquers the losing army. Just like if you play soccer, the winning team gets the trophy and prize and the losing team gets nothing. Hope you understand.

A Sunni is not allowed to give his zakat to non-Sunnis. That is not following the golden rule.

Sunnis making war against people with other religions is also against the golden rule.

Stoning women is also against the golden rule

All the other examples I gave also contradicts the golden rule

So in brief sunnism does not promote the golden rule

ahlul-hadithism may be the word to use here because israfeel is apparently not sunni and there is some distinction between the two. don't know if he'll take exception to being called sunni if hes not quite sunni etc.

I would say its not a "golden rule" at all - sometimes people don't treat themselves nice if you'd apply the "golden rule" there it wouldn't make sense.

AlhamduliAllah... I don't fall under your Golden Rule which is made by Your Sahih Muslim and Wikipedia and NOT approved by Allah in the way it is presented.

It is not beautiful because it is NOT practical. Before challenging Allah and His Book, look at your self, will you fit in this position? I don't think so... because it is impractical, hence, Allah never make for such rules for His creation.

As per my previous question, your golden rule is against alQuraan. Because I don't expect others to feed me if I become poor, but I expect it from my Lord who created me. AlhamduliAllah hail

                        2678
2678 Who created me, and He guides me.

                        2679
2679 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink.

                        2680
2680 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me

                        2681
2681 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life

Your golden rule fails here on ever point. If I serve someone do I expect him to serve me? &

That is not the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule is "Treat others as you wish to be treated"

It seems you believe in golden rule more that you believe in the word of God...funny...

As I said before that rule is not at all practical, it's actually terrible

PEOPLE SOMETIME WISH FOR THEMSELVES THINGS THAT ARE NOT GOOD FOR THEM...if you apply the "rule" here it would be terrible,
Also sometimes (actually most of the time) the things we wish for us are not good for others (your "golden rule" fails here too)

So think about your "Golden rule" which you put in higher position that the WORD of God.

                              Peace.

The Golden Rule is a general principle, meaning like most general principles it may have exceptions where it shouldn't be applied. But generally speaking, the Golden Rule also known as the Rule of Thumb is accepted worldwide by all humanity as a universal moral code to live by - all humanity except the Quranists of course.

                                      Peace,

As far as I am concerned, the phrase "treat your neighbor as yourself" was allegedly uttered by Jesus believably roughly 2000 years ago and has nothing to do with hadith of Muhammad. Of course, Muhammad may have reused the expression since it is in the peaceful nature of God's religion.

If you are guided by God's Light this phrase turns into common sense and it is astonishing that one may say you cannot find paraphrasing of the behavior in the Quran and can draw the conclusion from it which means the same as Jesus' alleged expression back then.

Jesus believed that God would give him anything he needed and so should you. Since we may not be as strong in the Holy Spirit as Jesus, God gave us the Quran as a compensation.

Still, with or without the Quran, the Message will come to you as long as you stay patient and steadfast and worship God alone and do not associate any partners with Him. Quran is, as it claims itself to be, a guide for mankind, but people could be righteous before its revelation so it proves that in the bottom it comes down to trust in God and His system and steadfast reverence.

My inspiration/intuition I receive from my Lord is that the hadith commonly attributed to the prophet Muhammad are more or less a pile of dirt composed by people who thought they were clever.

God said "What other hadith than mine do they believe in?"

God means the scriptural information which he has sent down through inspiration and not man-made junk. It is blasphemous to attribute information to God which He had no role in. Hadith could be translated into something less awkward though. God's hadith means it was God who "spoke" recorded by someone, in the case of Quran, Muhammad.

                                      God bless you

As far as I am concerned, the phrase "treat your neighbor as yourself" was allegedly uttered by Jesus believably roughly 2000 years ago and has nothing to do with hadith of Muhammad. Of course, Muhammad may have reused the expression since it is in the peaceful nature of God's religion.

Actually "treat your neighbor as yourself" is not as broad and universal as the Hadith "Treat people as you love to be treated", because the former is restricted to neighbors, while the latter is for all human beings.

God said "What other hadith than mine do they believe in?"

That's not what the verse says. It says

So in which Hadeeth after that will they believe? If you look at the context, it is condemning the rejectors (not those who affirm the Sunnah). Hadeeth here is referring to what Allah has revealed (both Quran and Sunnah).

The Quran never says "What other hadith than mine do they believe in" totally wrong and misleading translation. See I know the Quran better than you Quranists.

That is not the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule is "Treat others as you wish to be treated"

That verse is about golden rule ""Treat others as you wish to be treated" ..

You should send the money already ...
