    Salam Everyone

    I had this consent nagging feeling in my mind heart and soul about who is in control of our lives. Well what im trying to get at here is if everything we are going to do is written down for us by God then why do we get punished for something that was already written for us;
and also our death is written for us can we control how we die. I'm just confused please help, I always thought we controlled our lives our death and our happiness and how we lived will determine our fate whether we go to hell or heaven but i also thanked God for guiding me when i needed him. so how does this work our we in control or not

    Thank You Everyone

Predetermination only exists in false 'islam' called Sunnism.
Predetermination has no basis in true islam.

Preordained or chosen is a problem that humans make up for themselves. For God their is not such thing as pre or after or at. God is always present. We are tied by time, God is not. It is useless for us to bang our heads against something that we will not solve because it is in a realm beyond our reach.

What do we know, what do we feel? Do we feel that we are free to choose? then we are free to choose. Do we feel that we are compelled? Probably we are very stressed and are unable to get out of the box. For humankind freedom is not a choice but a need. We cannot evolve, consciously return to God if we do not have inner freedom. It is a return that we have to make ourselves, even if God helps, but there is a part we do have to do. So we have no choice but to be free in order to take those steps that will bring us back to God, the wuickest and happier way. That is precisely what we ask for in the fatiha guide us by the ascending path, the path of those with whom you approve, not of those who attrated wrth on themselves nor that of those who strayed.

From the point of view of God, He does what He wills, he creates de bad as well as the good, but all returns back to Him, and he is not encircled by time nor anything we can conceive.

        Salaam

The phrases that I have made RED are what predetermination is. True islam does not teach this but Sunnism and some sects in Christianity do.

              Salaam,

The Truth is complicated; God knows about everything but let us play a game. Time is something created for this game. God simply is, independent of time.

But if what we do in this world did not matter God would not have made this test so everything cannot be predetermined already. It is our souls/minds that are being tested mainly. God is in control of everything, but our free will to choose whatever to do is authentic and we can side with God or evil, and God will interact thereafter. God controls the world in real time so to say.

              God bless you

If life isn't predetermined then can someone care to explain these verses please

2868 Your Lord is the One who creates whatever He wills, and chooses; no one else does any choosing. Glory be to GOD, the Most Exalted. He is far above needing partners.

763 We have guided him to the path, either to be thankful or to reject.

for the first verse you stated its simple(so far my understanding goes) that the will of Allah prevails and non else.

                      as to the second verse
in the said verse it is not stated that Allah has guided him to the straight path, it could be just a path to test him as could be understood from the previous and subsequent verses.

Who created death and life that He may try you ? which of you is best in deeds..672

?We will most certainly try you with somewhat of fear and hunger and loss of property and lives and fruits; and give good news to the patient..2155

And that He may purge those who believe and deprive the unbelievers of blessings.. 3141

its Allah who guides to a path and its you to choose.
if there is anything like predetermined then i don't think a rapist should be blamed for rape, a thief for stealing, a murderer for murder...etc...and you better know who is to blame than.if it so the resident of hell would not wrong but wronged.

                      nevertheless Allah knows better

May Allah peace be upon you.

                        Peace! peace

And the parable of an evil word is as an evil tree pulled up from the earth's surface; it has no stability.

                        ( , Ibrahim, Chapter #14, Verse #26)

                        1 The Beneficent
                        2 Taught the Quran.
                        3 Created man,
4 Taught him the mode of expression.
                        ( , Ar-Rahman, Chapter #55, Verse #4)

Allah is in control, always always, always in
all ways, the Lord of the ways of Ascent (703)

Allah = Clear-Light of the Heavens and Earth (2435)
                        Allah = Al-Haqq the Absolute Truth/the Certain Truth/The Inescapable/The Irresistible/The Surety

Allah = Al-Hayy the Everliving, Everpresent before the servants are created, watching their creation, watching their deaths, watching their resurrection, one constant stream of seeing the full story from all sides

We have a simple Yes/No choice in all situations involving two of us from which all choice springs forth. To go forward/sala or to turn back/tawalla. To be thankful? Simple as that!

                        So it is seen that

                        (sun Allah
                        (0) Then Allah created the heavens and earth and the light and darkness
                        (1) Then the angels/malaikah
                        (2) And the jinn of fire/nar
                        (3) Then Adam
                        (4) The malaikah are asked to bow
                        (5) Then Iblis does not bow and becomes of the rejectors/kafirun of the command
                        (6) Then Al-Satan/The Adversary tempts Adam & his wife
                        (7) Then all are commanded to get down, enemy to one another
() Time to put on some sunglasses

From this we see enmity in three directions!

                        Adam <=> Al-Satan
                        Adam's Wife <=> Al-Satan

                        But also!!!

                        Adam <=> Wife

                        Did you consider that?

Allah bears witness that there is no god but He, and (so do) the angels and those possessed of knowledge, maintaining His creation with justice; there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise.

                        ( , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #1

Malaikah serve without fail abiding in perfected Knowledge/Data given to them
They are given precise information and no more and no less
                        Their rizq/sustenance pure Light

Jinn serve and are possessed of knowledge/data and ability to choose between God and enmity, they all know they shall be resurrected (3715
Their rizq/sustenance is known via understanding of what fire consumes and allows it to continue

Humans serve and are possessed of knowledge and ability to choose between good/evil and are under trial/probation
Made of clay shaped, our rizq/sustenance is known via understanding what clay consumes and allows it to truly continue

The Messiah, son of Marium is but an apostle; apostles before him have indeed passed away; and his mother was a truthful woman; they both used to eat food. See how We make the communications clear to them, then behold, how they are turned away.
                        ( , Al-Maeda, Chapter #5, Verse #75)

But the Shaitan made an evil suggestion to them that he might make manifest to them what had been hidden from them of their evil inclinations, and he said Your Lord has not forbidden you this tree except that you may not both become two angels or that you may (not) become of the immortals.

                        ( , Al-Araf, Chapter #7, Verse #20)

Now we see that (1) angels do not eat food (2) after angels, mortals & immortals

                        From Chapter 18/The Cave/Al-Kahf
And when We said to the angels Make obeisance to Adam; they made obeisance but Iblis (did it not). He was of the jinn, so he transgressed the commandment of his Lord. What! would you then take him and his offspring for friends rather than Me, and they are your enemies? Evil is (this) change for the unjust.

I did not make them witnesses of the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor of the creation of their own souls; nor could I take those who lead (others) astray for aiders.

And on the day when He shall say Call on those whom you considered to be My associates. So they shall call on them, but they shall not answer them, and We will cause a separation between them.

                        ( , Al-Kahf, Chapter #18, Verse #50-52)

                        Why did I quote this?

Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin Most heinous indeed.

                        ( , An-Nisa, Chapter #4, Verse #4

All evil works are forgiveable under the Divine Light Allah. They are seen for their full nature within and without from all perspective. Under creations of Allah, beings have limits to their forgiveness. To devise a partner besides Allah is to challenge the nature of Allah oneself.

IT cannot be questioned for its acts, but they will be questioned.
                        ( , Al-Anbiya, Chapter #21, Verse #23)

Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!).
                        ( , At-Takathur, Chapter #102, Verse #

                        As regards
2868 Your Lord is the One who creates whatever He wills, and chooses; no one else does any choosing. Glory be to GOD, the Most Exalted. He is far above needing partners.

                        ( , Al-Hadid, Chapter #57, Verse #22)

Within the Heavens and Earth, there are myriad ways to rise off the Earth. Some ways lead back onto Earth. Some ways lead into the Heaven

Seest thou not how Allah sets forth a parable? - A goodly word like a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the heavens,- of its Lord. So Allah sets forth parables for men, in order that they may receive admonition.

We exist in one future where Iblis did not sjd. Everything on Earth is between Iblis, yourself and God. God spoke to Al-Satan and gave permission to seduce humanity if they can, but for those who believe this is not an issue. So always, God is in complete command. You yourself are also in complete command; this command is within your own self and the ability to control for yourself and other selves matters - to accept God, or to reject (hypocrisy/shirk).

So you have three options, really which are two

                            • To go forward and accept truth
                            • To turn back and deny truth

The first option is infinitely expansive and will require you to shed your ego - the idea that you have been willing your whole life as opposed to the will of everyone and everything and ultimately Allah.
The second option is a non-option which generates only misery and transient illusion of pleasure. If a person is a believer then choosing this option is hypocrisy; if a person does not believe then this option is shirk, the association of partners in authority/essence/sovereignty with the Supreme.

All of this on Earth exists as a trial bubble. Good and bad things happen to us, and they are all written down long before we are on Earth. So any number of ways we could proceed through life but all of the possible storylines are already in the book before we are sprung forth. We are choosing which path through the book to take, which universe to choose to be our own.

There are infinitely many universes going on but only one heavens-and-earth. Above Earth (planets, rocks, formed objects) is heaven (space, air, formless emptiness). Within heaven, there are infinitely many possible ways for Earth to move, or to rotate an object for instance. So I could turn left, or I could turn right, or face upward, or downward, but all of my possible selves are already contained within the record.

In such a sense we have infinite free will, creativity, power, potential, but all of this is fundamentally constrained by the treaty between Allah and Iblis until the time of resurrection. Our decision is either to turn to God or turn away, there is nothing more. All things happen through the interface of this simply (Y,N) question/decision, all choice is through that. You choose God, then some aspects are restricted and you eventually come to understand why. If you choose Al-Satan, to oppose God, then the universe appears to be fully open, you can go anywhere, do anything, nothing matters, no consequence. But soon from that you find the consequence and nothing but misery ultimately and it all comes to pass and one is left with nothing of worth or significance.

But choosing God, we gain access to the infinite variety of nature and choice of flowing in oneness, unison and synchronicity through the universe, an endless sustainable cycle of goodness that perpetually springs forth. So choose God, again and again, and you will not have to worry about who is in control. You are in control, allow your highest You to shine through yourself.

All the aspects of ourselves or capabilities you would expect to have in Paradise, we have them here if you look deep enough within. The body you inhabit now is very much like the body you inhabit in paradise but this body here is simply bound to decay. Its nervous system has all the capabilities of a Paradise being.
Anchor them onto Earth and we move closer and closer to the Paradise realm.

This is what Iblis & co try to trick us with. They deceive man into thinking God does not exist or Godness is not God and there is no goodness, then when man is reduced to his lowest form, Al-Satan disassociates from any responsibility. We are here on Earth to express our deepest beauty, power, grace, charm, intellectual ability, empathy, harmony. These are the qualities that raise man into the truest Home, the Home where man is free to shine everything within to the quality that is expected of the 15 billion years of work of the Supreme.

                            peace

                              Salam,

Just my 2 cents. If anybody had ever read 'game book' novels popular in the 90's where you choose what decision the character would take and for each decision is designated pages you should flip to and with different decisions you will have different ending?

Well... Our lives is to me, sort of like that. Each moments of our lives we are presented with choices, and with each choices we will have different results. Although we want certain results and make our decisions based on what we want of the results, the results are not in our control. The results has already been written down (pre-ordained?). If we choose this we will get that, etc etc... The the 'control' given to us is to make choices. The results are completely in His hands.

                              Peace.

It's a logical implication of the statement.
Given time and space itself is a 'creation'.

Among the 'proponent' of such view is Albert Einstein, in which he said

"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. God does not play dice with the universe. Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the insect as well as for the star. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper."
                                    -- A. Einstein

A video which discussed this issue.

                                      Salamun Alaikum

A brilliant parable it is. I'd only add to it that - even the choices that we are going to make are known to Allah. But that does not absolve us in any way from the responsibility of making those choices.

Have someone played the below game with you?

                                      • Think of a number - any number between 1-10.
                                      • multiply by 3.
                                      • add 6
                                      • multiply by 3
                                      • subtract 9
                                      • add the digits of your resulting number.
                                      • subtract 5
                                      • think of the English letter that represents the number (A for 1, B for 2, C for 3 etc.)
                                      • Think of the name of a country beginning with your letter.
                                      • Take the second letter of the name of the country.
                                      • Think of an animal that begins with the letter.

                                      ...
                                      ...
                                      ...

                                      ...
                                      ...
                                      ...

There are no elephants in Denmark.

For more than 90% people this works. If this game worked for you - that is because the one who came up with the game predicted the choices that you would make. But just because he predicted it right does not mean that you did not make those choices.

May Allah guide us all to the straight route.

                                      Best regards,
                                      Arman

Yes, those examples are very interesting, clear. I do not know whether that is the way it works, but it does show that if what one needs is an example or illustratio of how it can work, there you have it. You cannot complain that there is no explanation.

As fr as I am concerned, I feel that in these questions we get into divine ground and that we are no match for that. I acknowledge that I am not match for that, but that I am match for what I have at hand, that is, to deal with what I can deal or attempt to deal. I do not have to solve "God's problems". I have to solve mine. And I also think, getting a hint from astrology, that all people are different. Some people have more choice than others. Some people seem to be marked by fatality. But that is a matter of choices which is not the same as free will as somebody here has already commented. Even without choices we are free to protest or to submit, or to submit protesting...

Still God knows and the knowledge that God knows whould give us some peace, if we deeply believe, should give us total peace. In sha Allah, I wish that for me and for everybody in creation.

                                        Salaam

                                          Peace,

We are fully responsible for our deeds. The passivist view is dangerous because they may even forget part of the decree because it explicitly tells to do good things to establish justice and harmony. Not only sit around with a "righteous smile" and dingling dangling their bodies several times per day or spend hours in meditation.

God knows what is going to happen to all of us, but we yet have an active role in a kind of simulator illusion.

                                          God bless you
