Is quran really easy to understand?

Hi jafar, thank you. I try to ask some critical questions because as you said I am trying to vett my understanding . Maybe I have missed something that I haven't thought of? Maybe my understanding has lot of holes? I do have some general understanding which are as follows
- Islam is not a religion
- There is no diety or anthromorphic god
- Humans were tasked with the responsibility of protecting earth and all it's inhabitants
- Quran promotes critical thinking and instructs to acquire knowledge.
- Quran promotes a just social order based on equality and liberty.
- Only a just knowledge based society can truly achieve the vision of quran.
- There is no shariah as currently understood. A society based on critical thinking and idea of justice is more than capable of formulating there own laws.
- Sunnatullah refers to natural laws and are un changeable. For example gravity, speed of light in different medium, boiling point of water etc.
These are some of my understanding. I may be wrong on some or if not all of the points. If any point is not clear I am happy to elaborate.
- islam is an attitude, a character of "peacefully accepting God's will", whatever it is, no matter how hard it is.
- Correct, God is here there everywhere and has no boundary of space and time
- God has a plan for human to become a 'caretaker' of earth, at least up until now, He might also has other plan for human in the future, He might expand the responsibility for human to become a 'caretaker' of solar systems or galaxies in the future... When human has evolved to be a wiser being to uphold such responsibility.
- God promotes critical thinking as it's within His plan for human evolution.. He continuously send out revelation to human being, He has unlimited media of communication.
- God has a plan for just social order to thrived among human society. Those who failed to do so shall become extinct eventually (Survival of the nicest). He has prepared a perfect ecosystem to ensure and enforce such 'plan'.
- Only a just society shall eventually survive, the other shall become extinct. Again He has a perfect ecosystem to ensure that unjust society shall eventually perish.
- "Sharia" is among human's false hypothesis on how the world around them works.
- Sunnatulah is natural law is God's law. He has a perfect ecosystem for it's enforcement. It's however changing.. yet all of the changes happened in accordance to His plan / will. (ie there will be times when gravity shall work in reverse)

Hi everyone, thank you for your time and kind replies. In the event if there is a misunderstanding let me clear it. I am not a native speaker of Arabic and I try to shape my understanding on reading different works and opinions. I have been visiting this site for some years and it has helped me a lot in forming a valuable opinion. I joined this group and started posting hoping to get answers which I do not have. If i sound sceptical and critical that is intentional because it comes after a quite a journey correcting my understanding or misunderstanding. Whatever I have been fed was a lie. So I had to take this critical approach questioning everything and everyone. But rest assured my true intentions are noble and I am seeking all of your help as a student. I am also influenced by the morass muslims find now in. We muslims are digging deep into a pit where there is no coming back. Coming back to the topic about quran being easy to understand , lot of opinions were raised. From understanding or performing simple acts like charity, honesty etc. this may be part of quran but we don't need any scriptures to understand the importance of goodness or such qualities. We have an inbuilt moral compass which helps us to determine what is right and what would be good. A person can be good by his own efforts . Looking at the thousands of topic in this forum it's hard to agree that quran was easy to understand. If it was easy we wouldn't be here discussing and analyzing so much.
I dont think its important to be native Arabic speaker to understand Quran provided you know how the language works. Majority of the members here are skilled at it. Yet keep an open mind, for all of us are humans and our view can be sometimes limited to what knowledge we have. We can make mistakes.
But I recommend you to be extra careful about what you find at anti Islam sites....esp those coming from atheists. Sad to see that although they swear by science their view on how things work is rather shallow and even inaccurate. They will make you forget whatever science you studied even in elementary school. He needs to learn about binary system of stars and the fact that there are other stars surrounding the sun. This is middle school scientific fact. He proved nothing. Just showed his lack of knowledge. Scientists believe our sun has connection to other stars, but they just dont know what it is. The only thing I can agree with him is that its speaking of a future event.
I can go on and on debunking all his stupid claims, but seriously man, it looks like only the dumbest people become atheist. They are buying into his claims without varying whether he is giving them solid scientific facts.

Speaking a language and knowing a language are two different things. Allah the Exalted guides with Qur'aan. Therefore, one must learn the skill for real-time translation to read and comprehend Qur'aan.

FROM THE QURANIC PATH
What one needs to comprehend is that understanding the Qur'an means to understand correctly what is being told in the verses, the concepts, lessons, signs, admonitions metaphors and imagery. All of these aspects of the Qur'an hold true regardless of the language used. When one does not understand the Qur'an, that is, makes erroneous interpretations, he is incapable of understanding these lessons, admonitions and true purposes of the verses. One may even be in possession of great Arabic skills, yet be incapable of understanding the verses due to his or her lack of comprehension of what is being told in the verses. We can compare this with the following scenario. Imagine you are explaining a concept to someone in perfect English. The person you are explaining to can also understand English perfectly. However, due to a lack of comprehension on their part, that person fails to understand what you are explaining to them despite your perfect explanations in English and their ability to understand the language. Likewise, the same can be said about the Qur'an. Even an expert Arabic speaker may well be incapable of understanding and interpreting the verses correctly as a direct result of that missing comprehension. This comprehension is given by Allah to whoever He pleases. A verse identifies this
"...But the disbelievers say, 'what does Allah mean by such a similitude?' Through it, Allah misguides many and He also guides many. But He misguides only the rebels." (Qur'an 226)
The comprehension we have mentioned is actually a gift from Allah to His sincere believers only. A believer who does not know Arabic may be endowed with this ability to understand the Qur'an. When the verses of the Qur'an are explained to him by another true believer in his language, he grasps them correctly, even though he does not know Arabic. And it is probable that a person fluent in Arabic could not understand the same verses correctly even in his own language. Skill in the Arabic language did not afford him the true interpretations of Allah?s verses, and so he remained bereft of Allah?s guidance. Another person who is a more sincere believer could understand the verses, even though he did not speak the language of the Qur'an. Allah explains this 'veiling of perception' in a verse

The comprehension is given by Allah to whom He wills regardless of ones language. All people who consider themselves Muslim must not hide behind excuses from gaining a first-hand understanding of the Book revealed by Allah, which is a guide, mercy and cure for them if they only make the effort to understand it themselves. Allah has held everyone responsible for adhering to the Qur'an, regardless of their spoken languages.

Reading a translation may add to one's information-archive but may not necessarily enhance his level of understanding. Grand Qur'aan, a non-fiction book, aims at successively increasing the level of intellectual understanding of its reader to ascensions beyond the physical realms. A real-time system is one which "controls an environment by receiving data, processing them, and returning the results sufficiently quickly to affect the environment at that time." Ability of real-time translation will enable to perceive those beauties and niceties of the words and sounds of Arabic text which all translations will lack, however profound and scholarly they might be. Since the level of information and knowledge keeps expanding, the understanding and thereby the translation of an individual of 7-20th century was certainly based upon the perceptions and understandings of people in those times. For us in the 21st century, such translations are merely opinions, scholarship of individual translator notwithstanding.

Notwithstanding what distance we could cover in the past and the future we can never say with confidence and certainty that we have reached and seen and perceived the things at the point of beginning or ending in future. We can never encompass the matter in its entirety not only because of its extremely voluminous and diversified nature but also because we know the skies are expanding all the time. Therefore, if we can manage to reach its today's last boundary and limit it would have gone farther the moment we reach the point we thought is the ending point. It is an endless pursuit; this is the limitation of our capability of vision and intellect. We will always end up in a closed street.
Knowledge is primarily divided into two branches; knowledge of things/matter and what happened-was talked about by the people; their dialogues, habits and acts in the past. The knowledge about the matter is verifiable in time and space. Anything said by anyone or a book regarding physical matters could be subjected to verification in time and space about its truth to an exact detail. If we find the words of a book relating to physical matters written earlier in time as true and factually and materially correct in all respects then we will have to believe too, in those statements of the Book which narrate some events/dialogues between people of past/historical statements. The falsification test of any book/statement could be the physical one. The facts mentioned in the Qur'aan about the Universe and human body is in itself the falsification test of the Book.
When we apply this test upon the exegeses and translations of the past, none stands the test. Therefore, in the light of the above declarative statement in the Qur'aan; do we have any option but to treat all earlier exegeses and translations as obsolete and of no avail for the people of 21st century?
There is yet another reason why every reader should attempt acquiring the skill for real-time translation of Qur'aan. It is the Semantic density of information in Grand Qur'aan embedded in just 6236 Ayahs. It is so voluminous that we will never be able to empty its words; therefore, no translation is exhaustive. May be you retrieve such pearls of wisdom which did not come to notice of all the translators.
Quite many people have translated the text of Grand Qur'aan for various motivations, considerations and intentions, good as well as bad, in timeline. Detailed account can be seen in World Bibliography of The Translations of The Meanings of The Holy Qur'an (Istanbul, OIC Research Center, 1986), Most of these are available on line. It is worldwide known fact that the first translations to English were not undertaken by the believers in Qur'aan. During 231 year period from 1649 to 1904 only four English translations were produced, all four by scholars who had their identity as Christians.

The fact remains that no attempt was ever made for the academic translation of Grand Qur'aan. Moreover, it is an undeniable and unfortunate fact that just few scholars attempted translating the Grand Qur'aan in their respective target language directly from its Arabic text. Thanks to computer and internet technology, it is now easy to see the majority of translations on one page. This blessing of technology has highlighted a dismal image of saddening effect; when we see many translations on one page we find more plagiarism than original work. Majority merely "re-translated", or "reproduced" already available translations; particularly that of George Sale and John Rodwell, with slight difference of sentence structuring, and replacements by synonyms and synonymous words of the same language. The conspicuous difference will be noticed only about additions of sectarian biases. The fact of reliance upon such translations becomes glaring in later translations when we find such opinions; which otherwise seem irrational, illogical and even ridiculous on face value, were plagiarized.
Learned A.R. Kidwai in "An annotated bibliography of the English translations of the Holy Qur'aan" states
Ross, Alexander, The Alcoran of Mahomet translated out of Arabique into French, by the Sieur Du Ryer...And newly Englished, for the satisfaction of all that desire to look into the Turkish vanities (London, 1649). 8 edns. Contains an exhaustive Preliminary discourse on Sira and the Qur'an. In translating the Qur'an Sale's missionary intent is quite marked. For in the note to the reader he suggests the rules to be observed for 'the conversion of Mohammedans' (p. v); evaluates the Prophet thus 'For how criminal so ever Mohammed may have been in imposing a fake religion on mankind, the praises due to his real virtues ought not to be denied him' (p. vii), talks of different editions of the Qur'an which, for him, vary in contents (p. 45), points out the borrowings in the Qur'an, (pp. 49 and 50) and refers to the piecemeal revelation of the Qur'an as a 'contrivance' (p.50). Full of instances of omission and mistranslation. For example, Ar-Rahman nir Raheem, is simply rendered as 'Most Merciful'. The recurrent Qur'anic address, Ya aayuhan nas is translated as 'O people of Mecca'. Renders as 'Substitute' and as 'Secret History'. Parts of some verses have been altogether omitted, as for example, in Ale-Imran III98 is not translated
Rodwell, J.M., The Koran (London, 1861). 32 edns. Question the authenticity of the traditional Sura order and invents a new so called chronological Sura order. In the Introduction he refers to the prophet as the crafty author of the Qur'an; indicates the Christian, Jewish, Zoroastrian and other sources of the Qur'an; advises missionary activists how to carry out their work and hold the prophet a victim of self-deception, a cataleptic subject from his early youth...liable to morbid and fantastic hallucinations (p.14). Suffers from a number of mistakes of mistranslation and misinterpretation. For example, (al-Mudathir LXXIV39) is translated as 'they of God's right hand', (al-Kauthar CVIII2) as 'Pray therefore to the Lord and slay the victims'. Explains the use of the word abd (al-Alaq XCVI10) in the Qur'an thus 'Since it was the slaves who had embraced Islam, the Qur'an uses this expression'.
On the other extreme, one finds that scholars of remote past strangely kept fabulate whenever episode of life of the Elevated Messengers of Allah the Exalted finds mention in Qur'aan. Thereafter, the plagiarists in timeline have repeated it extensively that now it is as if engraved in memories of majority. However, the original episode in the original Arabic words of Qur'aan is ever safe for those who wish not to live in fictional realm.
It were only the Jews at the time of revelation of Qur'aan who are criminally charged for slandering, ill-reputing, and associating fabricated ridiculous stories with the Chosen and Elevated Allegiants sent as Messengers of Allah the Exalted, which are not becoming of their dignity, status, honour, and reverence. They did not hesitate doing so even for Sulie'maan alai'his'slaam who had made them sort of superpower.In view of the foregoing it is necessary for us to acquire skill for real-time translation of Grand Qur'aan shedding preconceived notions and extreme regards for people who earlier translated it and wrote exegeses. Qoran makes the point clear
We send down in the Qoran healing and mercy for the believers. At the same time, it only increases the wickedness of the transgressors.
Say, "O people of the scripture,(Jews, Christians, Muslims...Whatever your language may be!) you have no basis until you uphold the Torah(Jews), and the Gospel(Christians), and what is sent down to you herein from your Lord(Muslims)." For sure, these revelations from your Lord(Qoran) will cause many of them to plunge deeper into transgression and disbelief. Therefore, do not feel sorry for the disbelieving people.

When you read the Qoran, we place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an invisible barrier. We place shields around their minds, to prevent them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears. And when you preach your Lord, using the Qoran alone, they run away in aversion.
Who are more evil than those who are reminded of their Lord's signs/ proofs, then disregard them, without realizing what they are doing. Consequently, we place shields on their hearts to prevent them from understanding it (the Qoran), and deafness in their ears. Thus, no matter what you do to guide them, they can never ever be guided.
None can grasp it (Qoran) except the sincere.
He sent down to you this scripture(Qoran), containing straightforward verses - which constitute the essence of the scripture - as well as multiple-meaning or allegorical verses. Those who harbor doubts in their hearts will pursue the multiple-meaning verses to create confusion, and to extricate a certain meaning. None knows the true meaning thereof except God and those well founded in knowledge. They say, "We believe in this - all of it comes from our Lord." Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.

Above you have elucidated one of the guiding principles of how the Quran should be approached
and that is the living reader who is a believer must see themselves involved or part of the narrative
or "feet on the ground" which will help the reader to understand context.However, my conclusion remains the same and that is
people who speak Arabic do not automatically posses the comprehension to understand
the meanings of the Verses of the Qur?an. The comprehension is given by Allah to whom He wills
regardless of ones language. All people who consider themselves Muslim must not hide behind excuses
from gaining a first-hand understanding of the Book revealed by Allah, which is a guide, mercy and cure
for them if they only make the effort to understand it themselves. Allah has held everyone responsible

You seem unable to distinct these two things. Quran is understandable. People misunderstand. People misunderstand Quran. Quran is still understandable. It only takes one correct understanding to prove that, rendering all the misunderstandings as traits of people, not of Quran.
You are right and I did never deny that Qur'an is understandable. I told you that even if it is correct one needs to be able to understand it or otherwise it does not matter who understandable it is.
That's a highly controversial opinion if you ask me. It contradicts where Quran tells us if the prophet would have changed one letter to it, God would instantly kill him. This means he still had control over his own fingers. The only thing that occurred was he recited Gods words. There is no proof of further assimilation. The idea you are propagating gives fuel for those who want to divine the prophet. To me that is setting up partners to God, equal to how some christians have done and are doing.
I do not understand what you get such ideas from. What you you mean "to divine the prophet"? Of course the Prophet was assimilated with the realm of God or he would not have any such affinity to compose such as scripture as Qur'an.
Although you seem to be obsessed about Qur'an whereas there are people who know such things that the Qur'an teaches without ever opened that book.
Other qualities universal truth, power to convince at least two witnesses, non-contradiction to name a few. If you think you can produce a surah like that verbally, while reciting with no previous study then please do so and try to convince two witnesses. You don't understand that challenge is not a written one. It's challenging them to recite like prophet muhammad recited Quran.
If one is assimilated with God they can recite the same thing as Muhammad. Unless they are not they obviously cannot. And many times where people say that he recited the real meaning of the word is "convey". And the prophet conveyed knowledge.

I don't claim Ketaab means Quran only. But the contents of Quran still correspond entirely with the original Ketaab mentioned in Quran. It's the only physical book that has this property, thanks to Gods protection of it.
Ketaab refers to knowledge. The knowledge is not fixated at one scripture but it is an abstract knowledge with varying ways of acquiring that knowledge. This is the delusion regarding the ketaab that it refers to book. It is this idolization of physical objects which leads to this conclusion.

First of all, you were assuming I use ketaab as a synonym for only Quran which I dont believe is true. Second, you can't just follow the ketaab of Jesus nor Moses since it is lost for eternity as a result of human manipulation and corruption. Furthermore the ketaab called Quran informs you about this fact.
No they are not lost forever. The knowledge of Moses is the Guidelines usually called the Ten Commandments and brief supplementary information. The knowledge of Jesus is right inside the Gospels when he elaborates on the Guidelines aka Commandments. It is not more complicated than this. That it looks like he is a son of God is a misinterpretation.
