So did anyone figured out what salat is?

You have my condolences, Reel. I am sorry.

Peace MOF,
Guidance is not equal to Salat.
Guidance is only the result of Salat, and its the effort we make to connect with Him, to make our-self available for Him is the Salat.
Allah is to be seen with his justness, common goodness provider and to respect HIM/IT should be our objective.
The first step to receive guidance is to get that personal or individual ego(given by Satan) out of us and Salat helps us. The Sujud we do is an important part in it
and the recitation that reminds us of His superiority over everything is how we establish our salat. This is how other faiths also perform their Salat.I do not think the ritual is so important here and need to be unique, it depends on situations and our mind state.
Quran 1778
Establish prayer at the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night and the Qur'an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.Quran 2945
Recite, , what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater.
And Allah knows that which you do. -
Salaam amin,
There is no ritual. It is the guile. You have to read again through my post. The word means the following of someone or something, i.e. you are guided by that object. I gave you the word definition very clearly and gave you an example with a leading horse in a horse race. This horse leads (guides) the race. The same with salat, directly or indirectly you follow guidance, if you do that.

Peace amin, Man Of Faith.
Indeed ,how do we figure out "Salat"? Has GOD sent a message? What does the message say about "Salat"?
This is not a pantomime,Oh no,there is no salat...Oh yes there is... Our salvation depends on following the message.
Of course ,in the end GOD will settle all the disputes. But in the meantime we must not follow each other or those who have no authority from GOD. We must follow the "message" brought by the "Messengers" who have/had authority from GOD to deliver HIS(no gender ...)message.
Why?
2517
On the day when He(no gender...) summons them, together with the idols they had set up beside God, He will say, "Have you misled these servants of Mine, or did they go astray on their own?"2518
They will say, "Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became " Boran" people.2519
They have disbelieved in the message you have given them, and, consequently, you can neither protect them from the retribution they have incurred, nor can you help them in any way. Anyone among you who commits evil, we will commit him to severe "Adhaban".2520
We did not send any messengers before you who did not eat food and walk in the markets. We thus test you by each other; will you steadfastly persevere? Your Lord is Seer.Check/ponder/make sure...GOD guides the sincere, they will attain certainty...
GOD bless you.

The real question in the light of the scripture called Quran is what the ancient Arabic says and not what ignorant people say or have said without knowledge. It is a delusion that it speaks of a ritualistic prayer and I have spent the past years of intensive work showing what it says and what it does not say.
You have no old messenger here to explain. You have to interpret the text yourself. It is what I am doing and I share the result with others. It is up to them to believe old sectarian scholars and clerics or me who sincerely and independently decipher it discarding old bias and not taking a preconceived meaning as granted.
What do you do with praying birds? Are you wholly? For the wholly obviously the birds in question are following a leader and following in formation.
Follow closely or remain attached is a registered lexical definition. It is not conjecture by me. It is also the true etymological meaning. Read up on the horse race example. There should be no dispute concerning salat. It is obvious.
A myriad of passages misrepresent the text and a handful of passages look like they confirm a ritual, but there is inconsistency and illogical combinations if you analyze other passages. It is not coherent.
Follow what GOD offers in terms of guidance and live that way is the message.
The salat phenomenon is only unclear to those who like to complicate things.

So according to your definition we are to "Follow closely or remain attached"
at fixed times? nopeAnd when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting,
or on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish prayer.
Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.Waw-Qaf-Ta = to fix, defined/determined/limited a
thing as to time, appoint/declare/assign a time, measure of time (e.g. season).Wagt (n.)Time.

Peace Man Of Faith.
You are mixing up your "Salats".
"Aquimi salat" stands alone from other "Salats".The birds you mention know their "salat" but they do not "Aquimu salat".
"Salat" can have different meanings in Qoran according to the context/subject... It does not have a single meaning .
Your quote can also apply to you

My mom went to sleep forever last week. Some really strange things happened. Her face was so beautiful while asleep that people couldn't stop praising her. When we were going to leave her in the garden of sleeping people we saw no one there. Priest told us at least 6 people were required to take her. Strangely that moment, more than 10 people showed up out of nowhere in the middle of open valley and windmills. It is really far from the real city. These strangers prayed and even went to see her next day. Everyone has been saying she was no ordinary woman and that she was highly blessed and lucky. The ladies who gave her shower said her face kept staying on the west for some reason which was another strange thing. When I saw her before that her head was straight. But the ladies said she smiled in her sleep too. They came to our house today and kept praising her. They were also going on saying she was not ordinary.
Now here is the thing, she was not a regular in salat. In fact, she didn't do it for several years. All she did was recite verses from Quran before going to sleep. She didn't even have to suffer before falling asleep. It just happened like a sudden wind. So I have come to conclusion that probably the kind of salat mainstream Muslims talk about has very little to do with what a good Muslim is.
I am still very much heartbroken. But I am glad that she was able to know the truth of Islam before she fell asleep.
Salaam Reel,
I am so sorry to hear that. May she rest in peace. I hope you're fine and stay strong. It's sad to hear this news
-
I am glad that she left so peacefully. I am glad tht you were able to have your mother all this time and that you were able to be beside her on her last travel. In sha Allah she is in the intimacy of her Rabb and is now another ambassador from all of us to God's intimacy.
I trust that you will find strength to be her successor in this life and that in another form whe will continue being with you.Salaam

Salaam everyone,
Reel, my condolences on passing of your mom. May the Creator grant you patience and strength.
Let's use Quran as its own dictionary.
7531 For he did not believe nor "salla"
7532 But he denied and turned away.As you can clearly see, the verb "salla" is contrasted with "turned away" so it can only mean "turned toward".
Salat is "a way of turning towards" or communication. When you "turn away" from someone you are in fact stopping communication and disconnecting from someone. In the quranic context "salat" is communication with the Creator. Birds have their own form of communication with the Creator as does every living being. For the believers, "aqimi al-salat" is establishing communication with the Creator at certain times of the day. Purpose is remembering the Creator and it results in guidance and physical, mental, spiritual progress.

I agree with you in principle, please make clear as to how you, or we are
to go about "establishing communication with the Creator at certain
times of the day."God bless you

Peace hawk99,
Please study the quran regarding salat, and then after a genuine personal attempt to understand how you are to go about establishing salat, WHATEVER way and timings you arrive at will be the best way for you. This way might be somewhat different from others but should be perfectly acceptable, as long as it involves remembering the Creator and implementing the guidance received in your daily life, thereby resulting in physical, mental, and spiritual progress, and walking the "good deeds" path.
May the Creator bless you.

I might have overlooked some ayah, where does it say salli is only about communicating with the creator?
2.45
Nay, seek (Allah's) help with patient perseverance and prayer It is indeed hard, except to those who bring a lowly spirit.forgetting things in brackets, where do we seek help from?
when you are sick, need information of a kind or need any type of help - don't you seek it from competent people if you don't get it from one place you go to someone other until you are able to...............
And it doesn't matter the time of day or night.
Same with Allah aswell he is available 24/7 and not at any given times .......surely.
-
Truthseeker,
If it says "turned away" it refers to turning away from GOD and from FOLLOWING CLOSELY. Not from some non-existent recurring periodical communication practice in ritualistic manner. I told you salla means following something which testament is what you read of Quran today, i.e. the GUIDANCE.
See the horse race metaphor.
Since people keep believing in salat as prayer or communication practice I will divert focus to the stupid interpretations that Quran speaks of some timing which is also non-existent except perhaps 2458 but where salla is used to speak of something else. In 2458 people have to be aware that the sallawa word has no AL prefix whereas if it would grammatically refer to the name or instance of "prayer" then the language would be definite.
Following GOD and keeping communication is a constant practice and has no timing.
Salaam
-
Are the birds also going to follow each other periodically and get lost the other time while flying in formation because they remain in contact with GOD only during their "contact prayer" or focused session or whatever excusing interpretation acrobatics people divert to to defend their ritual.
Be wholly.

I think your conclusion is sound in the absence of acceptable rites
but we do have acceptable rites already in place, why should they be
abandoned/or adjusted? And when Ibrahim and Ismail raised the foundations of the House
Our Lord! accept from us; surely Thou art the Hearing, the KnowingOur Lord, and make us Muslims to You and from our descendants a
Muslim nation to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance.
Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. What rites do you conclude were given to Ibrahim if any?
God bless you
peace
-
The word you designate as rites in the quoted passage does not necessarily mean that. It has other lexical meanings as well such as piety and "to apply oneself" as commitment as well as servitude and acts such as that. Those are also the kind of "rituals" we are supposed to do.
Salaam
-
Peace hawk99,
I agree with Man of Faith on this issue.
I will urge you to be very careful with relying on other peoples translations and to verify everything for yourself. For example in 2127 you quoted
And when Ibrahim and Ismail raised the foundations of the House
Our Lord! accept from us; surely Thou art the Hearing, the KnowingWhoever translated this verse mistranslated a key phrase thereby misguiding billions. It does not say "al-qawa3id al-bayt" meaning "the foundations of the house", but says "al-qawa3id min al-bayt" meaning "the foundations FROM the house", which completely changes the meaning.
The proper translation would be
2127 And when Ibrahim and Ismail raised the foundations FROM the house ......
Usually al-bayt has a physical meaning in al-quran but the usage of "min" in this verse before al-bayt turns it into a mental bayt instead of a physical one, which implies something like a "system" instead of a physical house.
Examples of a non physical house in English would be "House of Commons", "Speaker of the House" etc.
Coming back to "mansak", some points
- The root "Nun-Siin-Kaf" also has meanings of "to lead a devout life, to be pious, to serve the creator, to apply oneself".
http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm
Thus "mansak" can also mean "an act of piety or devotion/servitude to the creator" which fits perfectly in 2128.
2128 Our lord, make us muslims to you and from our descendants a muslim nation to you. And show us our acts of piety/servitude/devotion and accept our repentance ......
Please note that "muslims" in this verse has to be a common noun with a small "m" rather than a proper name with a capital "M" (as you have quoted), because of the usage with "lak"/"to you". Muslim to you (implying proper name of a religion) would be nonsensical here, but "muslim" to you (implying a common noun state of being) would make sense.
- You mentioning "manasik" in context of our discussion about salat implies that you think salat is included in "manasik". Let's see the quranic evidence
Firstly, 2127-128 does not have "salat" in its context.
Secondly,
6162 Say "My salat, and my "nusuk", and my life, and my death, are all to the god, lord of the worlds."
As you can clearly see, "salat" is mentioned separately from "nusuk" in this sign.
This lends even more weight to the notion that "salat" is more of a "turning towards" or "communication" with the creator, and "nusuk" are ways to achieve physical, mental, spiritual progress which we learn as a result of "salat"/turning towards/communication with the creator.
Salat is not a unique concept limited to al-quran. People have been performing salat since the dawn of mankind. Different people in the world have different ways of performing salat. For example
For the believers, please study the quranic way from al-quran.
For Buddhists the turning towards/communication is through meditation.
For spiritualists it is through channeling, astral projection etc.
Salat of Aborigines (see pictures) http//www.gondwananet.com/aboriginal-religion.htmlYou might call Aborigines mushrikeen, but in their own way they are performing salat to the creator.
WHATEVER works for you depending upon your belief system should be perfectly acceptable.
May the creator bless you.
