Level of Quranic dietary observance?

So I have some questions about Quranic dietary observance. How do you all keep halal?

Do you eat only halal/kosher slaughtered meat? Do you eat other meat but say the name of God over it to "halal" it as per the description given in chapter 6?

What are your opinions on stunning before slaughter given the prohibition in 53 of animals killed by a violent blow?

Do you consider byproducts of forbidden foods acceptable? For example, pork gelatine or lard.

I am learning the dietary rules. I do prefer halal/kosher meat as the blood has been drained and the name of God has already been said over it but there are of course issues with animal welfare. I've heard some horror stories- while the meat may be halal, the treatment of the animals isn't. This brings me nicely into my second answer

I think it's permissible in an Islamic framework as the animal is not killed BY the device. Some halal companies offer stunned-before-slaughter meat for non- and liberal Muslims and I know of several Muslims who only eat stunned meat.

I haven't yet reached a conclusion on this. I live in a country where pork gelatine and lard are quite frequently used. However, these are not from the FLESH of pigs so there are arguments as to their permissibility. Many Quran-only resources I've seen permit them and others don't. There are several brands of sweets in the UK that use halal beef gelatine so those will probably be acceptable to everyone here unless they're vegetarian or abstain from halal-slaughtered meat for animal welfare reasons.
This is a very interesting topic for me and I would appreciate feedback.

Why should you not eat from that upon which God's name has been mentioned? He has detailed for you what is prohibited for you, unless you are forced. Indeed, many people mislead others with their personal opinions, without knowledge. Your Lord is fully aware of the transgressors.6120
You shall avoid obvious sins, as well as the hidden ones. Those who have earned sins will surely pay for their transgressions.6121

This is my opinion.. The verses are self explanatory.GOD says "Eat" not "Slaughter/kill/" . Hence eating any food not just "meat".
As far as what is not allowed Qoran is also clear

Therefore, you shall eat from God's provisions everything that is lawful and good, and be appreciative of God's blessings, if you do worship Him alone.16115
He only prohibits for you dead animals, blood, the meat of pigs,* and food which is dedicated to other than God. If one is forced (to eat these), without being deliberate or malicious, then God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.16116
You shall not utter lies with your own tongues stating "This is lawful, and this is unlawful," to fabricate lies and attribute them to God. Surely, those who fabricate lies and attribute them to God will never succeed.Anything else that is not mentioned and is used in other foods/medicine, i.e beneficial for us is fine by me,
Of course one can eat whatever they prefer and tastes nice to them and is not harmful/distasteful etc..i.e lawful and good.

i think the question is method of killing animal?
how we should slaughter the animal according to quran, is there is any specific way like usually muslim and jews do it...

All animals killed for food are allowed, Different methods are used by different people but the aim is the same, they are specifically killed and prepared for food .
Qoran is clear what is not allowed.Although Qoran mentions "Dabh" ,it does not disallow other methods as long as the blood is drained?In other words meat from a supermarket is just as good to eat as the so called "halal" by traditional Muslims.
Some argue you have to say GOD s name before it is slaughtered,
In my opinion the person eating the meat is responsible to say GOD s name before they eat it. As simple as that.
The person slaughtering the animal is not responsible for you or me . Each one of us is responsible to make all their food "halal" by thanking the provider GOD and saying GOD s name before they eat..

They are the ones whose hearts tremble upon mentioning God, they steadfastly persevere during adversity, they observe the Salat, and from our provisions to them, they give to charity.2236
The animal offerings are among the rites decreed by God for your own good.* You shall mention God's name on them while they are standing in line. Once they are offered for sacrifice, you shall eat there from and feed the poor and the needy. This is why we subdued them for you, that you may show your appreciation.GOD is addressing the believers when they congregate for "hajj". Hence the instruction is specific to the feast they are providing for the people gathered there.Those doing the slaughter are asked to say GOD s name on the animals before they slaughter them. They are responsible to make it halal before it is given as charity to the needy..
A similar example would be if I slaughter an animal for my family ,as a believer I will say GOD s name on it,of course every member of my family can also say GOD s name before they eat as well. But overall I am responsible for my children.
That is how I understand it.

whats about the electric shock thingie,, actually i m still eating halal food , due to a reason of blood draining what we call "zabiha"
just want to know the methods in quran regarding the animal, like accidental death .. thats why i prefer to eat halal label,,
becoz there are different modes of killing animal in which some of them differ from quran, so why we take risk,, may be the animal what we are eating get death by some accident way...

Let me summarise my view of what Qoran says
1- GOD is the provider of all our food. All food should be dedicated to GOD Alone . There is no other provider,hence as believers we should mention GOD s name when we eat.

These three things cannot be detected by our limited knowledge .GOD says they can be harmful. Other foods that go off,have bad taste...etc we can detect and we can easily know they are not GOOD.
C. Any food /meat dedicated to other than GOD. Because this is "shirk" . There is no other provider. GOD Alone is the provider for all of us.
There is no confusion no contradiction, no ambiguity.To me it is clear and makes sense in the context of all the verses.
We cannot invent our own rules about what is halal and what is haram.

I agree with theese points, though, In my understanding it is sufficient to 'remember' Gods name not literaly say it out loud, due to the nature of 'zkr', in my understanding. This is what i do anyway. though i may be incorrect, to me it seems the best interpretation, to remember, not mention, as one can easily mention Gods name vainly, but remembering his name, i.e that as you say, He is the only provider, and he created it for us, is, If God has willed, not in vain.

What are your opinions on stunning before slaughter given the prohibition in 53 of animals killed by a violent blow? I think this is inhumane and wouldnt buy it if I know they were cruel to the animals. I also feel that this would fall into that category of a violent blow.

Do you consider byproducts of forbidden foods acceptable? For example, pork gelatine or lard. Also in America its hard to avoid the byproducts especially gelatin or food coloring that would not be considered halal by traditional muslims. I dont have a panic attach if i eat something with yellow 40 or red 5 or if it has gelatin. The Quran states flesh of swine which means meat or the skin.

3-You are right it is the meat off the pig that is not allowed. Hence by products are fine.I also always advise to study Qoran and check all information(1736)

My preferences and choices are my own . Agreeing or disagreeing is one s own choice. Qoran allows each one of us the choice.

actually my question is again there..
whats about the chicken that are killed by electric shock is it permissible to eat it. becoz the blood is not halal .. in this case blood stay inside the flesh which make it haram by default..
