    Peace to every being.

I was taught to make salat 5 times a day since I was 7.

I always felt guilty if i didn't make Salat. Now since I started to examine this kind of info rather from local imams. I see information that says that by praying salat we become like idolators.

Where is the truth. Why there is so much uncertainty. Why cant I find a YES or NO answer ?

    Peace

      Peace to you as well..

You should answer such question yourselves..
Start from the basic question on "WHY" you are doing it...

If it's just to avoid feeling guilty to your Imam.. then you are doing it for the wrong reason.
If you are doing it out of fear because Allah will torture for all eternity if you didn't do it, then I can assure you that the true God is not a mean, narcissistic and praised crazy God, He will not do that to you..

So far the below is the best answer on the above question that I can find

Someone once asked the Buddha skeptically, ?What have you gained through meditation.?
      The Buddha replied, ?Nothing.?
?Then, Blessed One, what good is it?"
?Let me tell you what I have lost through meditation sickness, anger, depression, insecurity, the burden of old age and the fear of death.?

        Ritualistic prayer - No
In order to affect timeline - Yes

But you also would need to learn what prayer means and how it's working in practice. The phenomenon called God has no need of you praying, and you get what you need without praying. Your stance towards God is manifest in your way of being.

What God is, is probably something which you likely have the traditional religious perspective.

        Be well
        Amenuel

            Sura baqarah
And seek assistance through patience and prayer; and most surely it is a hard thing, except for the humble ones (45),

May the Peace be with you,

The same question arose in my life aswell. It's really good, that you question yourself questions like these. Because ask and you shall be given by the will of God!

First of all, we need to understand what the word "Salaat" means in arabic. I have learned that it means to have a conversation with God.

Further, the Quran teached me to pray 3 times a day

              1 "Salaat al Fadjr"
              2 "Salaat al Wusta"
              3 "Salaat al Isha"

Also, most of the time my prayers are personal.

And, i also try to praise the Lord 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening.

That question bothered me for a while also. What i did is Turned back to God as much as possible. Stopped following what others said. I started listening to the word of God. Instead of the word of men. I wasn't afraid, because i was searching for answers.

I also started reading the Quran more and more. Because at that time i wasn't reading much, but i was listening much to what people had to say.

Structure is important. But yeah, i definitly need to learn more about this topic.

May my Lord increase my Knowledge.

              Peace.

Brother how did you learn that Salaat in Arabic means conversation with God. Arabic words derive their meanings from corresponding roots. Salaat has root which has the meanings of following very closely. Just wondering what is your source of this understanding.

                  peace,

you must establish/(re)affirm (aqem) the connection/reaching out (salah), as enjoined in the quran. i have looked into ancient hebrew lexicons, and see roots that may be related to salat, that convey the meaning of 'sending in a direction', 'sending out' (literaly shooting an arrow). but more or less, what i have come to understand salah as is a connection with our lord, a time to devote ourselves to him, humble ourselves and come before him.

it is enjoined upon the believers at specific times, i preform it twice daily, if God has willed, otherwise some people interpret as-salat al-wusta as a specific salat, and establish it at noon also. i see as-salat al-wusta more as a type of salat than a time, brother Wakas has a good articles on salat timings at
                  http//mypercept.co.uk/articles/problems-5-salat-Quran.html
more or less, this is similar to my view of salat. however God knows best, and you should seek him, not anyone else or their understanding, as there are so many differing views, and ask for guidance, if you are sincere, and If He so willed, He will guide to the truth.

in terms of should you pray as in supplication, (dua) yes.. constantly..

                  4060

'and your LORD said, 'call upon Me, I will respond to you, indeed those who are too proud to serve Me, they will enter into hell, being humbled.'

your LORD is kind and merciful, and in my advice you should not follow any way, untill you know for sure, as God informs us not to follow after that which we have no knowledge of, however make some time to dedicate yourself to your LORD and the specified times, after ablution, etc, and seek him. He is faithfull to guide and guard.

what i believe for sure is that salah involves

                  standing.
                  being as attentive as possible.
calling upon him.. (al fatihah is perfect, as it is a personal address, reaching out to our lord) not secretly or loudly.
bowing and humbling ourself to him, or prostrating (ruku` and sujuud)
                  glorifying and praising Him..

i also seek refuge in God from satan the rejected, before i recite the quran in salat, and dedicate my salat with 6162 ( 'indeed my salat, my rites, my living and my death are for GOD, LORD of the worlds' )

other that that, i dont see a problem with however one wants to serve their LORD, provided it is appropriate, each for our own deeds

I believe God guides me during my salah, he often inspires some way to me, or some guidance, or some goodness, or a reminder of something i need, or have forgotten. or some ways i have erred so i can seek his mercy.

just seek Gods guidance, He will guide you if He wills.

"Salat" and "Quimi salat" mean different things in Qoran. I believe "Aquimi salat" means some sort of connection with GOD - Prayer_.

GOD also gave us this instruction for " Aquimi salat"

When we "Aquimi salat "we prepare as follows

                    (1) wash your face,
                    (2) wash your arms to the elbows,
                    (3) wipe your head, and
                    (4) wipe/wash your feet to the ankles.
Then If you were unclean... "junuban" you shall bathe.
If you are ill, or travelling...etc...
and you cannot find water/cannot use water, you shall observe the dry ablution (Tayammum). God does not wish to make the religion difficult for you; He wishes to cleanse you and to perfect His blessing upon you, that you may be appreciative and feed your "soul".

GOD does not need anything from us, we are the ones who need the "rites" and the good deeds to be able to withstand GOD s presence on that "difficult day" - Resurrection_.

                    I repeat

GOD wishes no hardship imposed on us in practising our deen. Any suggestion in mythology as to how to perform some of the details that move us in the direction of making the religion difficult, cannot be from GOD and is not approved by Him.

It is simple, intention to do your " Aquimi salat" then follow Qoran

GOD says in Qoran when you observe the "salat"

                    1. Wash your face, and we have 1 face.
                    2. Wash your arms to the elbow, and we have 2 arms.
                    3. Wipe your head, and we have 1 head.
                    4. Wipe/Wash your feet to the ankles, and we have 2 feet.

                    1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 6
Before performing our 5 daily "salat", we do the above 6 actions in our ablution. This is why Almighty GOD has placed the instruction for ablution in 56. People should be able to do these actions comfortably, without any hardship( and if they cannot, they use "dry ablution"-Tayammum&quot. People are men, women, left-handed, right-handed, tall, short, fat, skinny, and all sort of other things. How to do "salat" is well preserved for generations since Abraham and confirmed by Qoran.

In regard to our feet, some people might say that the Quran says we should wipe our feet to the ankles instead of washing them. GOD says that He loves those who are clean. The believers should use their own judgment, this is a test for all of us. We must not create division between ourselves dueling on this issue. Regardless of washing our feet or wiping them, GOD will not throw our " Iquami salat" to waist.

Our intention and timing must be resolute and our "salat" must be dedicated to GOD ALONE.

GOD has not given any instruction on what to wear. when you pray As far as I know.

You wear what is comfortable if you are in your own home praying, or what is modest if you are praying with a group.

                    That is my understanding.
Check all information as per 1736.
                    GOD bless you.
                    Peace.

                      Peace everyone,

The OP seems to be confusing "prayer" for which the quran uses the word "DU3A", with "SALAT" which means "close connection" or "intimate communication" as used in the quran. SALAT can include prayer but IT DOES NOT MEAN ONLY TO PRAY per quranic usage.

The root Sad-Lam-Waw has connotations of following closely/remaining attached from which "close connection" can be derived as a meaning of SALAT which fits all quranic occurrences. Additionally 1187 clearly implies that SALAT is also an intimate two way communication between a human and the infinite Creator through which the human can get divine instructions and messages.

SALAT = CLOSE CONNECTION + INTIMATE COMMUNICATION

This can include oration with understanding of the signs of truth, reflection on the signs, thanking and glorifying the infinite Creator, praying, being humble in front of the infinite Creator, and channeling the infinite Creator. For spiritual progress and evolution, SALAT is a must. In Eastern philosophies, the same exact results are achieved by meditation. The quran advises us to reflect on the signs of the infinite Creator, and this reflection is nothing other than meditation upon the signs.

The sectarian ritual of facing the pagan black cuboid idol during SALAT is what makes it setting up partners with the infinite Creator. The infinite Creator is present everywhere, whichever direction one faces (2115, 2177).

It is my opinion that whoever fabricated the ritual of facing a pagan black cuboid idol (Nabatean cuboid statue of Dhu-Shara, the sun-god and his mother Allat) during SALAT, deliberately did so in order to to try to turn "muslimeen" into "mushrikeen".

Life is not so simple. We have to learn and mature and gain insight and wisdom as we grow and go through life. There are no easy and simple answers. Time and age will show you. Don't rush to ultimate truths.... soon enough you'll see they're not so ultimate after all. One truth will be changed for another truth as you grow wiser and more experienced.

The final Truth is beyond us, and those who claim to possess it are ignorant. We can however go in the direction of Truth and Reality, but we won't reach all the way in this life, with these brains, and these intellects. And this is how this world is designed.

Just do your best. Don't be frustrated. Don't judge others. Be humble.

                        Cheers

                              Peace.

                              Peace be with you,

where in the quran are there clearly 5 salat in a day?

Peace be with you, and may God bless you,

Fair enough, each to their own, i have not seem clear proof for 5 salat, in fact i think one needs to stretch the verses and their interpretations to make them fit, i certainly used to, but i was never content with it untill i accepted the clear verses regarding salat and their timings, and in regards to 3018, it has nothing to do with salat?

theese kind of verses are throughout the quran, at all kinds of times.

anyway God will judge between us in truth, and He knows best

Because i translated it from Dutch.

Can you post the entire meaning of the roots?

So far my humble understanding about roots is that fundamental meanings of a root reflect in their derived words. Root s-l-w has the basic meanings of following closely so it should reflect in all words derived from this root.

                                      Peace Timotheus.

What does "clear proof"really mean? Why do you think there are many different interpretations of verses? Why does GOD send messengers? What is a trial?
I have seen people argue 0,2,3 and 5 "daily salat",each claiming they have "clear proof" from Qoran,do they?

I have given my understanding on "salat" in numerous threads here and elsewhere, please read my relevant posts on "salat" if you are interested.
I have studied all the claims I have met along my years of searching about "salat" and I have not found any concrete evidence to disprove 5 daily salat.
I now have no doubt whatsoever that GOD tries all believers throughout the generations and sends messengers to clarify and are backed up by Qoran and have " bayinaat" i.e proof off authenticity .

Of course you need to aim for certainty in all your beliefs. You will answer to GOD Alone, hence you need to find out according to 1736.
May GOD bless you and guide us both to His truth.
As or 3018, I believe the timing of "tasbih" -Glorifying GOD- matches the timing of salat.i.e It is done during the connection with Him . That is the connection of 3017-18 to "salat".
                                      Peace brother.

                                        Peace everyone,

If you use the quran as its own dictionary then the closest meaning of "salla" is "go/turn towards".

From 7531-32 it can be seen that the basic meaning of salla is "go/turn towards", because it is contrasted with "went/turned away".

7531 For he did not believe nor "salla"/turn towards.
7532 But he denied and "tawalla"/turned away.

One turns towards the infinite Creator by establishing "salat"/close connection/intimate communication to the infinite Creator.

                                        Peace

                                          Peace

                                          Hi friend,

The most common usage in Quran is the Arabic phrase "aqum al-salawteh". Usually people translate the first word as uphold, but the a better one is "be straight/firm" and the same root is used in chapter 1 in the passage "ahadana al-sirat al-musteqeem" which roughly means "lead us unto a path of straightness" and usually the Qum indicates a firm or upright man (in decency).

That being said, in conjunction with al-salawteh which means "follow closely", a theoretical literal translation could be "upright following" since marks a attribute noun. Or because Arabic cannot be translated literally it could be "follow straight(ly)".

There is one passage in Quran where salawteh is used without AL and that is in 2458 where it says "min qabel salawteh al-fajr" which I at this time translate "before the passing of dawn", i.e. I do not translate it as prayer at all and salawteh is marking the "following" of sunrise. I find the argument to be most logical and not easy to refute. What was important to my deciphering progress was the lack of an AL article meaning salawteh is not a definite attribute noun but still an attribute similar to (a) pass - ing in English.

Why I say "teh" about is because in Semitic linguistic tradition the letter is a fully recognized one and simply pronounced "teh". Why Arabic linguists ignore that puzzles me.

is teh and is heh. Teh could be seen as a compound of the letter and and is a joint of both of them in meaning in one. In salawteh its morphological and literal meaning is "follow - "nounifier"". What I have figured out is that the difference between heh and teh is that while heh is a pronoun suffix teh is reflexive on the word itself causing it to be an object rather than be an attribute to another word such as the subject.

Ritual salat is just a desperate attempt by the medieval clerics and scholars to "confirm" their already established flimsy doctrine. They fabricated the interpretation unrelated to what the Scripture is actually supposed to say. Quran's mainstream interpretation is just turned in a way of a political agenda during the latter part of the first millennium A.D. Hijacked it is. But it was also prophesied to face that fate and require a purge.

                                          Be well
                                          Amenuel
