Why is the animal kingdom so cruel and full of death ?

Thank you, and how about belief in God? The afterlife? Etc.
The purpose of existence is obviously an advantage knowing about, but the details are not crucial. The importance in one's existence is nurturing their spiritual being and even while lacking knowledge it is possible to grow.
This answers both your questions.
Considered how few who know what to believe, incredibly few humans would even progress on their spiritual being in case that was taken into consideration.
But people progress due to their way of living and what they do with themselves and not determined on how much faith they have in "God". You can have a very strong sense of faith in "God" but yet you fail miserably in growing spiritually, oftentimes because you seek yourself to the incorrect information concerning matters.
For example, the sectarian interpretation of Quran may give the indication retaliation is a good thing, but in truth this is a heavy activation of the human body's instinct and therefore giving in to the calling of Satan as you say in religious faith. In terms of model of spirituality, Quran is immensely misleading, in its common interpretation.
Be well

Hello, welcome
It should be destructive. This destruction IS the order of the universe. The collapse of stars give life for other things. The destruction of one species (dinos) gives a chance for another form of life to spread. When it comes to humans, it is simply how the life works. We learn from our mistakes. The point is to not submit to pain and continue living. Not losing faith in God and yourself.
The disasters, chaos in the universe makes it better. It makes us better. It is an ulimited experiment of life. Through calamities we become stonger, species adapt to the environement. Constant change through destruction is absolutely necessery. Of course, we humans may choose if we want to pass throgh the hardship. Fighting every now and then does make this world more interesting. Death is natural. There can't be no life without death. Death is not as bad people think it is.
That's what I think

Can we be returned/brought back to this life, after death, so that we may behave differently from our past ?
The quranic answer is no (753, 627-28.)
The Qur'anic answer is Yes (2243).

Dear brother, I won't argue, of course.
Maybe you can think about all of these ayets to get a better picture, because "things" are not black-white. There's maybe some difference, and which is something Allah swt knows about and we don't, and by which He is deciding what to do. So, maybe, He knows that there's no need for some of the people to be brought back, as, for example, He said to Nooh a.s. that nobody will confirm (yu'min) except those who already did, or He "created" some of humans and jinn for Jehennem.Btw, what is said in this ayet 2243 is, as I know, ignored by sunni scholars, they don't discuss it.

Sunnis deny much of the message.
Let's not be like them, 753, 627-28.
Ps. al-mot (ت in 2243 (vb. ا doesn't sound like a corporeal death, to me.

you asked Can we be returned/brought back to this life, after death, so that we may behave differently from our past ?
and your answer was negative with same ayets as your proof. And you're totally right that these ayets are talking about that, but the ayets are specific, not for all situations. These ayets are about AFTER Es-Sa'at ("The Hour", so your answer is not correct and is incomplete, because it's only about something specific, not for all situations.
Ayet 2243 is clear that Allah swt can brought back to life some people, as He did, and that happened BEFORE Es-Sa'at, if we read and think. Will He do it again? He will, if He wants so.

Sorry, I haven't noticed your PS.
Verb is imperative, and to know about it we have to understand "kun fe yekoon".
I think all the people who have some knowledge about Qur'anic lisan know that "kun" is not "to be".
This verb, if we read and think about it, means "changing in creation/created". So, with "kun" Allah is not creating something, He is changing what He already created, as He wants.
He's doing changes by his commands ('emr) and commands are imperatives when they're verbals.
So, by any command, Allah is making changes in created, by just "saying" something, in this case He ordered to some people to die, so the died, for sure.
It's not same as in 3119, for example, because it's not Allah's order.
The other proof is that in 2243 after that 'emr are wordsthumme ehyahum
This is indication that they were brought back to life, and thumme indicates that it happened just after His 'emr (which is same as just after their death).

can also signify lifeless as in mindless, without character.

You're taking words as you wish, not as they stand there. If you notice the word "thumme" comes just after imperative and it's clear, I hope, that it connects two events, which happened one just after another. This also can explain how "kun" "works" and that it means just a change to something existing (created) and in this case it's temporaly. "Thumme" also reveals that another change happened and no changes happen unless He will so, and if He wills something he just order to it "kun". So, even it's not said, Allah swt said imperative twice here, and if you're trying with some different meaning for the first imperative, you should know what is next one, if they are not "die" and "be live".
Maybe you'll understand it better if you think about 3 categories of those who can order something (which we should obey)
- Allah
- resulullah sawa
- Oolul-'emr.
If you think, maybe you can see that Allah's order(ing) is separated and the other two are connected, on the same level. Maybe you can see that it's not same when Allah swt orders something and when some of the people do so. Maybe you can understand that same imperative used in 2243 and 3119 has different effects.
Allah knows best.
