        Peace,

Perhaps God leaves it up to us to decide how to do our prayers or whatever you want to call them, he gives us all we need in Quran, and salat is a well established practise, and was at the time, perhaps he does not give us a step by step word for word direction because then it would become like it has in many traditions, a rigid lipservice with mechanical bodily actions.

However I still think that salat is a prayer, or meditation, or whatever you wish to call it. A time to remember God, call upon him and glorify him, and thank him for all that he has done for us.

My personal experience is that salaat as a ritual or prayer for me was like a good meal, the center and absolutely meaningful and nourishing part was postration. The kind of thing you could spend hours on. It gave so much feeling and peace... Now, for health reasons I cannot do it, and to me it seems that the whole salaat lost its "magic". If I do the other parts seems like mimickig. Mentally, in as ar as anything can be done mentally, of course, I feel that postration is the only attitude worth having. But I do miss so, so uch the physical part. So if I had to give anybody any recommendation wouldbe to postrate at leisure...

What I do find dilly though is the different reccomendations of the kind of postration for males and females. I find the female one the most rewarding. Reairding for what? I do not think it reards anything, it is just a gift, but a gift those who can enjoy it should not deprive themselves of.

Of course I do not pretend that this experience of mine represents anything but that.

          Salaam

If SALAAT is not "A ritual prayer", than as we know one must do WUDUK in order to do SALAAT. WUDUK is a ritual, thus where is the logic, when You say that Salaat is NOT a ritual?

            Peace

Depends on what you make of Wudhu.

taking bath everyday is also a ritual (some people dnt)
washing hands before u eat is also a ritual (some people dnt)

i still dnt understand why we wash our face and hands when we getup in the morning... is that the start of actual natural salat , every body have different salat.. like birds , everybody have different sajood like angels, trees, sun, moon stars..

we human being are the most problematic creatures becoz we ask/think/experience things and always in the complex of being unaware , we want teacher teach us everything what we need to learn, actually human being is lazy he just dnt want to discover things , for what God create him..

discover brother discover, even salat.. its not that hard to understand what salat is.. read the article of wakas its a good read..

Salaat is reading the Quran. It is really that simple. We are to read the Quran at Fajr and Isha. There are numerous versed in the Quran if you care to look. The reading at dawn is witnessed. 1778. There is also a verse where Prophet Saleh was asked if his Salaat told him things. Cant remember the exact verse. Earlier people neglected Salaat and followed their desrires. Anyway, the point is that you need to look up all verses relating to Salaat and make an unbiased attempt at finding out what it means. Arguing is not really how you can learn anything.

                    Peace smmirza1.

Does your post mean we cannot read Qoran other times?

So Qoran has given us set times to read ? And salaat is reading Qoran? And Saleh read Qoran according to the verse where his salaat told him things?

If you say we must look at all the verses relating to salaat to have an unbiased view, then how does this lead us to conclude that salaat is reading Qoran?

Please clarify further if you wish.
                    GOD bless you.
                    Peace.

                      Salam all,

Quran does not 'teach' us to pray, b'cos solat meaning in the Quran is much more than what we understand. It is not only pray, it is much more that that.

It is the whole reasons of us being created in the world.

If you take a look in 15, " Unto You we shall serve and unto you we shall seek help".

This encompass what is solat plus the conditions set in the Quran in order for Him to complete His favour onto us as per 55.

In laymen terms as per "common" understanding it encompass Ibadah, Worship and Dua (It actually is more than this).

This is my understanding of what solat is.

                      Regards.

I agree with good logic that salat does not always mean connecting prayer. It could be reading reciting the Quran and followed by being steadfast in following God's message(following closely )
