    Salam,

Are meteors really missiles thrown at jinns by angels?

In Surah Mulk, verse 5, Allah says

And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars and have made them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

How do we understand the highlighted phrase? Does it refer to meteorites falling to earth? If yes, since they also fall on other planets, what do we make of their purpose?

    Thanks.

        Please see 1822

        .........سَيَقُولُونَ ثَلَـٰثَةٌ۬ رَّابِعُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡ وَيَقُولُونَ خَمۡسَةٌ۬ سَادِسُہُمۡ كَلۡبُہُمۡ رَجۡمَۢا بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ‌ۖ

        They would say they were three, the dog being the fourth among them; and they say they were five, the dog being the sixth― doubtfully guessing at the unknown;

        675
        وَلَقَدۡ زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهَا رُجُومً۬ا لِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِ‌ۖ وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا لَهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

And We have adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made them Rujuman , and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

The evil ones use stars and planets to guess future.

        2435

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp the Lamp enclosed in Glass ..........

You can see that مِصۡبَاحٌ‌ۖ = Lamp in 2435 مَصَـٰبِيحَ is plural of مِصۡبَاحٌ‌ۖ

        Rujuman allegorically means guessing doubtfully.

              Salam NK

Surah 37 starts with Allah making few things witness to emphasis that all creation is following the commands of its Rabb. His laws are working all around us. Humans have a physical body that follows the commands of the Rabb, like functions of our body parts. In addition to that they have been given the ability to choose between right and wrong which has also been communicated through messengers who received revelations.

From 374 emphasis is on one creator whose laws are everywhere. He appointed the celestial bodies above us as a decoration as well as a protection. Some humans take these celestial bodies as a source to find out future and destiny of people. These evil ones are pushed away from every side because they are following their conjectures and are far away from the truth. Sometimes their guesses become true accidentally and they claim they have knowledge of unseen. It was happening before the revelation of the final message which acts as a source of knowledge against the guess work. This source of true knowledge is like a bright light شِہَابٌ۬ ثَاقِبٌ۬ that pierces through the darkness of ignorance.

              2257
Allah is the protecting friend of those who have Imaan He takes them out of darkness into light ....

              374-10

When I read these verses in context and broader picture of Qur'an this is what I get. Hope it helps.

For arriving at what is actually conveyed in a text, it is essential to know or determine the type of text. Purpose, language and format differs in various types of text.

                    I would say, yes.

Jinn to my understanding are beings made of energy - which means they could travel outside the atmosphere with no need for vehicles. However, they are restricted and are shot down with fiery projectiles that contain copper.

                        Salam Layth

How can energy be shot down with fiery projectiles that contain copper? Is energy an object flying in the space?

Would appreciate if you could explain it further.

What is energy? In a very basic understanding.

In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed.

You are the wise one. Just imagine a wave of energy travelling in space being shot down with a comet.

                              https//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet

A comet is an icy, small Solar System body that, when passing close to the Sun, warms and begins to release gases, a process called outgassing. This produces a visible atmosphere or coma, and sometimes also a tail. These phenomena are due to the effects of solar radiation and the solar wind acting upon the nucleus of the comet. Comet nuclei range from a few hundred metres to tens of kilometres across and are composed of loose collections of ice, dust, and small rocky particles. The coma may be up to 15 times the Earth's diameter, while the tail may stretch one astronomical unit. If sufficiently bright, a comet may be seen from the Earth without the aid of a telescope and may subtend an arc of 30° (60 Moons) across the sky. Comets have been observed and recorded since ancient times by many cultures.

It was mentioned in my link given

In old times, people observed certain objects appearing suddenly in the sky and behaving differently from planets. From their appearance they gave them the Greek name "Komet" meaning "hairy one, hair of the head". And today we call them "Comet", an astronomical object with long tail.

Man knows about "comets" for the last 2500 years and has observed and recorded about 2000 comets. At the time of revelation of Qur’ān, the appearance of large comets was regarded as atmospheric phenomenon and same was the perception of Aristotle. It was not regarded as celestial bodies
"Appearances of large comets were regarded as atmospheric phenomena until 1577, when Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe proved that they were celestial bodies. In the 17th century British scientist Isaac Newton demonstrated that the movements of comets are subject to the same laws that control the planets in their orbits.

. Redmond, WA Microsoft Corporation, 2005".

Grand Qur’ān had clarified their misconception 1400 years back that it were celestial bodies like the planets.

The Arabic word بِمَصَٟبِيحَ is much more reflective with great precision to describe the object than the word "komet" assigned by the Greeks. It becomes visible only when it reaches near the Sun.

This word stems from Root ص ب ح means day break; it is the time when day becomes eminent and visible. It conveys the perception and meaning of the point of beginning. It reflects a visible position. And therefore it is used to call someone as beautiful, pretty or elegant peculiarly in the face, bright in the face. مُصبِج is the one who enters at the time of morning. اصبَجَ means hairy one with whiteness naturally intermixed in it with redness, shining hair.

The peculiar information about Comets is that His Majesty has rendered them رُجُومٙا stemming from Root ر ج م which signifies the throwing, or casting, of stones. Today we know about Meteoroid A small rocky or metal object, usually between the size of a grain of sand or a boulder, that orbits the sun; and Meteor A meteoroid that enters the earth’s atmosphere and vaporizes. Also called a “shooting star.”. It originates from a comet or asteroid. And we know Meteor shower A collection of meteors visible when earth passes through a trail of debris left by a comet.

People will keep saying that they were three in number and fourth companion of them was their dog —

And others will say that they were five in number and sixth companion of them was their dog, hurling imaginary thoughts —

And yet others will say that they were seven in number and eighth companion was their dog.

You the Messenger pronounce, "My Sustainer Lord knows most certainly the number of them; people do not know about them except a few ones

Therefore, you should not enter into controversy about them except the evidently visible point and nor you should enquire about them from any one of them.
