    Salam,
People around me smirk & says things like...."Ur new found religion is so good ....No need to pray & fast... U can drink & eat pork as much as u want"

When I encounter an unpleasant test from God.... Family says things like...."All this are ur doing.... U are not on the right track that is why so many bad things are happening to u. U are wrong & God is punishing U"

An Alegrian woman once told me... "In Algeria u would be label a kafeer & will be executed."

I hate it when people start to judge when the don't know what they dont know/understand what they are judging.

        Right Sheena, wise choice.

Saya juga salah satu SE Asian di sini, aslinya di Jakarta tapi sekarang sedang kuliah di Inggris. Saya punya adik di S'pore.

Nice to know so many likeminded people in our region! Mestinya kita bisa buat semacam jaringan. Jamaah Islamiyah saja bisa roll seharusnya kita juga.

Salaam to Sheena, Adik Awang, Loli and all,

It's heartening to read such a poignant posting from Sheena. Nothing good is gotten without a test from God, Sheena. I believe this is to test whether you are made of sterner, or lesser, stuff. There are many Quranic verses to support this.

I have been a ' Muslim' (I think) for 6 years now and can be considered fairly active in espousing my views in the Klang valley. Throughout the time I came to know many 'readers' from all over the Peninsular and Singapore. Please email me privately if you need contacts near you.

I have my own egroup [email protected]. It used to be very active at one time until after 'Arab Conspiracies' came out where some of us had such a fiery and ferocious debate and subsequently many signed off thereafter. The egroup is still around and a good place to touch base.

                    A.

I'm going to Bandung in May '05. Do you know any 'Quranic Muslim' there?

                        Peace Ali Imran,

I don't know. I know a lot of people with various beliefs there, moderates, liberals, fundies, sufists, but I don't know if any of them are 'Quran-only Muslim'. At least no one I know had said that to me.

Hey Ali Imran, I thought u were in jail for the Bali bombing hehehe...

Anyway, I personally dont understand about what people like Sheena are going through. When I tell my parents about my belief, they dont get mad, let alone shunning me. Instead, they accept it because they think many of the hadith influenced traditions just dont make sense and superstitious.

Well, maybe it's because we are Indonesians so that we are much less extreme. I wonder if there is anyone from Indonesia who face difficulty from his/her family.

Moreover, I also dont understand why would anybody get shunned by his muslim family just because he wants to follow Al Quran. Such attitude is understandable if the case is he leaves the faith altogether or something.

Oh yeah, I have a question. Is one of the reasons that make arabs idolize Muhammad so much because he is an arab? I get the impression that arab people take Muhammad more like a national hero, so they want him to be the best among other peoples heroes (ReadOther non-arab prophets).

                              Salaam Jankren,

Yes I was in Bali a couple of times, but I spent more time at Bali Rock Cafe though

I can understand Sheena's case, which you may not. I agree that Indonesian environment is more open and conducive for contrary thinking, which Quranic thinking is second to none, than say Malaysia or Singapore, or even the South Asian countries for that matter. In Malaysia, I believe it has more to do with political dynamics and racial psychology of the country than truly an issue of faith or belief. In Malaysia, the maxim that Islam is Arab and Arab is Islam holds true and casts in stone. To say otherwise can be construed as an insult or contempt of Islam, a serious offence and punishable depending on the political mood and the religious influence of the priesty class of the day.

And Muhammad is god, spiritually or psychologically, depending on the flavour of the moment. Promoting Quranic messages can be branded and labeled as anti-hadith for good, an immediate and automatic invitation to social outcast. In my case I have lost family members and friends, and I have yet to do it openly or publicly, so much so that at times you tend to question whether it is really worth its while to do all these. But the compliment is that even your detractors can see the change in you, the positive change in mindset, attitude and personality, which otherwise can be a monumental task to undertake.

Have a good day brother. Bisa jumpa disuatu hari nanti..
                              )

                              A.

Bro, that is so sad to hear

Perhaps here is not that bad, but Muhammad is surely a certain type of god. ;D
If Ahmadiyah suffers what they are experiencing in this country, I don't think we can expect anything milder from the so-called Muslims. Perhaps not in Jakarta, but I'm worried about those who live in kampung.

                                    Salaam,

LOL I'm not an malayu but I think it's ok that I comment something, but I have been married with an malay man before!!!

The malay people seems to be very fund of their rituals, so if a God Alone followers explain he don't do salat 5 times a day and not doing the ritual bowing and prostrating, then they see u as an kafir, yes they do, they can't accept it.

My ex husband he became frustrated when he found out that I didn't performed 5 times salat and not performed it the traditional way.It lead to our marriage came to an end. He didn't respect me and wanted to force me back to the traditional islam and I refused his wishes.

                                    Peace Sis Maria

Hmmm... that is a possibility. But it is even more wondrous why non-Arabs (read my fellow countrymen) also idolize him so much. Sometimes even greater than our national heroes. ;D
