All prophets are men?
-
Some may consider Maryam (Mary), Isa's (Jesus') mother to be a Prophet.
-
"And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron"
"And there was one Anna, a prophetess the daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher"
"And Deborah, a prophetess the wife of Lapidoth"
"Huldah the prophetess"
"the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets"
Some may consider Maryam (Mary), Isa's (Jesus') mother to be a Prophet
Only those who confuse Mariam Mother of Jesus with Mariam sister of Aaron

Peace Caveman
Look past the seen into the unseen; that is to return to the start. Think of physical creation, the man sends and the female recieves. Now think of these action's with out the physical actor's, understand that the act of sending and the act of recieving (ie thought, idea's, words) can be done by both a male and female. When speaking with symbol's however a male can only send.
Keep 226 in mind God does not shy away from citing the example of a mosquito, or anything above it.
PS 'send' this question Idolfree's way as his understanding will be more detailed and clear (imo).

The question wasn't hard its just you fail to see the answer.
I've given you the answer, there were many women prophets but you wont find them mentioned in the no so detailed quran.
The same with many other topics, for the extra details you need to look in the bible
-
At many places Quran says that it is fully detailed. So I preume it was not important enough to know or tell if any woman was a prophet, otherwise it would have been mentioned.
Regarding Bible, although it is word from God but as we all know it is not as accurate as it was once or is supposed to be unlike Quran. Reading bible is like reading Hadiths. It may or may not be true. So what ever I find in Bible will not be an authentic source.
This takes me to the conclusion that there is no way to find out. Is my conclusion right?
-
At many places Quran says that it is fully detailed.
There are no verses that say that the quran by itself is detailed. There are only verses that say "Al-Kitab" is detailed, and Al-Kitab means the scripture.
Note People of the Book (Al-Kitab)
So I preume it was not important enough to know or tell if any woman was a prophet, otherwise it would have been mentioned.
It is mentioned in the detailed Al-Kitab, it?s just not mentioned in the not so detailed quran.
Regarding Bible, although it is word from God but as we all know it is not as accurate as it was once or is supposed to be unlike Quran.
We don?t all know that, it is just you who thinks that.
Apparently you haven't seen the verses in the quran that says to believe in all the prophets and the scripture that came with them. You seem to pick and choose what verses from the quran you wish to follow.

Peace Caveman
I do not see any straight talk here. Is this question so hard? Can somebody really help me.
No one can help you but yourself. All everyone can do is offer you thier current level of understanding and it is soley up to you to accept or reject.

Salaamun alaikum,
Albion There are no verses that say that the quran by itself is detailed. There are only verses that say "Al-Kitab" is detailed, and Al-Kitab means the scripture
Al-quraan is known as 'TAFSEEL al-kitaab' (detailling of al-kitaab - see 10/37). So since al-kitaab is detailed and al-quraan details al-kitaab, therefore al-quraan must contain all the details
Further, take a look at 12/111 below
There is, in their stories, instruction for men endued with understanding. It is not a tale invented, but a confirmation of what went before it,- a detailed exposition of all things, and a guide and a mercy to any such as believe
'a detailed exposition of all things' would include the women prophetesses you mentioned if it chose to. But it didn't.
-
Al-quraan is known as 'TAFSEEL al-kitaab' (detailling of al-kitaab - see 10/37). So since al-kitaab is detailed and al-quraan details al-kitaab, therefore al-quraan must contain all the details
Nice bit of twisted logic but only wishful thinking. Like I said there is NO verse in the quran that says the quran by itself is FULLY detailed.
Sura 5336 "Nay is he not acquainted with what IS IN THE BOOKS OF MOSES."
Apparently not
And we gave Moses the scripture, COMPLETE with the BEST commandments, and DETAILING (Tafseel) EVERYTHING, and a guideand mercy, that they may believe in meeting their Lord.
It was Moses who was given the FULLY detailed scripture. Detailed up to that point in time, plus prophecies of things to come. The scripture given to Moses is the first five books of the Bible.
All scriptures that came after the FULLY detailed scripture given to Moses, including the Gospel and quran, only details (adds detail) to the first scripture revealed (The FULLY Detailed Scripture).
So since al-kitaab is detailed and al-quraan details al-kitaab, therefore al-quraan must contain all the details
I've already proved this line of thinking is nonsense and only wishful thinking. But since you think the quran is full detailed explain all the following.
1 Is it ok if you babble when you pray
-
What is Gods Personal Name (Very important because ALL prophets that come MUST come in this name)
-
How do you recognise a FALSE Prophet (This is VERY important and is not left out of ANY scripture)
-
How should we test a prophet to first see if they are from God or from a trickster spirit (Again this is VERY important and NOT left out of any scripture)
Al-quraan is known as 'TAFSEEL al-kitaab' (detailling of al-kitaab - see 10/37).
Yes when you detail something you ADD detail to it but the thing being added is not detailed by itself, what is Fully detailed and continues to be detailed Al-Kitab (The scripture) . The quran is just a brief summary, and no where near detailed.
There is, in their stories, instruction for men endued with understanding. It is not a tale invented, but a confirmation of what went before it,- a detailed exposition of all things, and a guide and a mercy to any such as believe
Yes what was given to Moses was a detailed exposition of everything and the quran confirmes thi, thats what that verse is saying. That verse is a direct reference to 6154 where the same thing is said but makes it clear that it was the scripture that was given to Moses is waht it DETAILED
And we gave Moses the scripture, COMPLETE with the BEST commandments, and DETAILING (Tafseel) EVERYTHING, and a guide and mercy, that they may believe in meeting their Lord.

Why all the prophets that have been mentioned in Quran are men? Has there ever been a woman prophet? Why not?
Well, Caveman, in the begining human society valued the Female for their fertility. They worshipped the reproductivie ability of the Female. Thats why "fertility" cults were prevalent in the early human societies. But with the advent of civilisation in the cities of Ur and Babylon together with mastering of agriculture meant masculine qualities were favoured in this new societities and therefore the role of the Female declined and thus "patriachy" took over...even democratic Athens treated woman as inferior being like the rest of the civilisation that came after Ur and Babylon...only in primitive societies can you see the Reverence for the Female of the species...

Thank you for your post. That was an interesting historical perspective. Would that be a logical conclusion that Quran mentioned men prophets only because of the dominant role of men in the society in those days? However that does not necessarily mean that there were only men prophets?
As far as the posts of albion are concerned, can you please restrict your response to my question only which is regarding just The Quran. At this point I am not interested in how detialed is Quran and what has been mentioned in previous holy books. Thanks.
-
It is all related, you said the quran was fully detailed and I proved it isn't.
And your question has been answered there were women prophets, only the quran doesn't give the detailes about them because it isn't fully detailed
-
Thank you for your post. That was an interesting historical perspective. Would that be a logical conclusion that Quran mentioned men prophets only because of the dominant role of men in the society in those days?
Yes, that would be the logical conclusion. A women would have made no head way in a partriachal society since she was regarded so lowly.
However that does not necessarily mean that there were only men prophets?
Even if they were Female Prophets in the past, the Power Of Men in those societies would have ensured that their writing did not survive. Just look at the Christian Church did to the image of Mary Magdalene? She have been "edited" out from history of the church writings. It is only recently that she have been found to played an important role in the life of Jesus.
Scripture tells us that God has sent over 240,000 (or something like) messegers to Earth. I am sure in the early societies the Prophets would have been a Female. Just like Oracles of Delphi in Greece had women "Prophetess" in the ancient past...

Salaamun alaikum albion,
Nice bit of twisted logic but only wishful thinking. Like I said there is NO verse in the quran that says the quran by itself is FULLY detailed.
If you don't believe, a thousand verses saying so will not be enough.....
Sura 5336 "Nay is he not acquainted with what IS IN THE BOOKS OF MOSES."
Apparently not
Neither is he one to quote correctly ) . 'suhuf' in 53/36 means PAGES, not 'bookS'. Lets not get passionate to the point where we misquote, shall we?
It's a pity you need to twist your own quotation of the verse lol
6/154 already says that 'al-kitaab' given to Musa is tafseel kulli shain (detailed exposition of everything). So if God says everything, then under what authority are you saying 'everything to that point in time' . Did God say 'to that point in time' ?
Further, the word in 6/154 is AL-kitaab, pointing to a SINGULAR definite article. Lets see who else were given al-kitaab, the singular definite article, shall we?
- (2/213)an-nabiyeen...ALL PROPHETS (thus those even before Musa)
- (3/55) jesus..who was also given 'at-tauraat' and 'al-injeel IN THE SAME verse
I've already proved this line of thinking is nonsense and only wishful thinking. But since you think the quran is full detailed explain all the following.
1 Is it ok if you babble when you pray
I dunno. Does your god understand babbling ? Muslims are told
O ye who believe! ASK NOT questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if ye ask about things when THE QURAN IS BEING REVEALED, they will be made plain to you, God will forgive those for God is Oft- forgiving, Most Forbearing.(5/101)
Funny that here it doesn't mention about the Old Testament and other pretend books.
2.. What is Gods Personal Name (Very important because ALL prophets that come MUST come in this name)
I dunno, the Quran never mentions a personal name. And since my criteria is the Quran, I don't really care about any personal name. I don't think I need a code to access Allah. He is All-hearing and all-seeing.
- How do you recognise a FALSE Prophet (This is VERY important and is not left out of ANY scripture)
I've answered this in my answer to question 4 below. I'd like to take issue though with your quote 'this is very important and is not left out of any scripture'. Who are you to define what should be in any scripture ? Do you work in some department of Divine Scripture content or something ? Under what authority are you telling us what a scripture should contain?
- How should we test a prophet to first see if they are from God or from a trickster spirit (Again this is VERY important and NOT left out of any scripture)
This the Quran does have. And if you don't know how, then I can only assume that your judgement of the Quran was made in haste and misinformation.
Yes when you detail something you ADD detail to it but the thing being added is not detailed by itself, what is Fully detailed and continues to be detailed Al-Kitab (The scripture) . The quran is just a brief summary, and no where near detailed.
Please spare us this sophistry. Surely you don't want to be one of those mentioned in this verse
We have explained in detail in THIS QURAAN, for the benefit of mankind, EVERY KIND OF SIMILITUDE (kulli mathaal) but man is, in most things, CONTENTIOUS (18/54)
and in case one verse isn't enough
Say "If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of THIS QURAAN, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support (17/8
it goes on repeat in the next verse
And We have explained to man, in this Qur'an, every kind of similitude yet the greater part of men refuse (to receive it) EXCEPT WITH KUFR! (17/89)
I don't know what it is with you bible-bashers. You people don't even read the Quran and you come up with all sorts of nonsensical injections into Quranic thought. Very , very strange. Jettison the hadith in order to accept the teaching which inspired hadith to begin with.

Peace be upon you,
This reading(quran) is not giving you a list of men "titled" PROPHETS, itis giving you examples of HUMAN makeup. ALL OF US have the capapbility of talking to the God (prophet). The reading is a guide to the HUMAN FACULTIES with the God within.
To get to the point, there is no need to menation a female prophet because a list of prophets is not what is being given to man for his guidance, we are being shown the ENERGIES responsible for certain things. The MESSAGE is one that goes out, it is the YANG force of Chinese philosophy, the TEFNUT force of ancient kement(Egypt), etc. The One who recieves is the feminine force. The God creates all things in pairs, EVERYTHING, and real knowledge comes from understanding the pairs, and being able to find the balance of the two opposing forces.
Do a search on yin and yang for more info.

Salaamun alaikum Kyle,
I broadly agree with you here, Kyle. I don't know what the obsession is with prophets and messengers when we should be actualising these personalities within ourselves. Musa , Isa exist now and should be brought out from our personalities.
-
Peace all,
And as to why there are no woman prophets, I'd like to offer my comment
There are not any woman prophets in the Qur'an. Why? God knows. But whatever the cause, I'm sure it is not such an important thing.
Unless people wants to sue God for gender discrimination...

I just have a question, since Mary was mentioned a few posts back. I know that the traditional belief is that Mariam sister of Aaron was different from Mariam mother of Jesus. But I always get confused when i read in the Quran
1928 "O sister of Aaron, your father was not a bad man, and your mother was never unchaste!"
Both are named Mariam and both are referred to as Aaron's sister? I don't understand. What does it mean when Mary is called sister of Aaron?
Thanks.
