The basic argument was that since food of the People of Book {Toraat and Injeel--Jews and Christians] has been declared permissible for the Believers and that since it is not mentioned in Qur'aan that meat of pig was prohibited for People of Book, therefore, meat of pig becomes permissible for believers too.

The food of People of Book is permissible. But which food? The food that has been declared permissible for Jews and Christians by the Last Messenger Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam and what he has declared prohibited for them that will obviously not be permissible for believers if they do not abide by the command of the Messenger, recorded not in history, but in the Qur'aan.

And exactly the same is permissible and prohibited for the believer. The pig is declared Haram for the believers and so is declared Haram for Jews and Christians in the Qur'aan. They accept it or not, it is their choice. No compulsion in Deen, the physical conduct of life.

The people of the book or the Jews and Christians did not need to be told that Pig/swine is haram , they knew this from their own scriptures . " And the swine........you shall not eat of their flesh , nor touch their dead carcass " , Deutoronomy 148 . Other similar verses also can be found in Leviticus 117 and 1180 , but there are more of them .

Qur'aan says from herbivores some are declared permissible for eating. Dog and lion are not herbivores. Donkey has specifically been declared as beast of burden and not for eating.

Pl try to read the classification of animal kingdom in the Qur'aan. Everything has been made distinct and evident for human guidance.

"He only prohibits for you the
eating of animals that die of them-
                            selves (without human interference),
blood, the meat of pigs, and
animals dedicated to other than God..." (2173)

The whole "only herbivores is halal" comes from hadith. This is what Sunnis and Shias uphold. Shias even say that only white fish are halal out of the sea animals. Hanafis also say that crabs are haram. All of this is BS.

To forbid something which GOD did not prohibit is a major sin. Following hadith to get prohibitions and upoholding them is shirk, since one talks another authority besides God for religious law. This means that God is not enough as a law maker or just in general.

I fail to understand why people think they could be progressive as against hadith ridden people by considering desirable eating meat of cats and dogs.

Qur'aan, NOT Hadith, says only Al an'aam are permissible for eating and they are then defined as those who are herbivores. And then herbivores are further divivded into those which are eatable and those which are meant for carrying loads which includes horses, donkeys and mules. Camel is excluded from the list of beast of burden and declared as eatable. And then Qur'aan further tells that for you people He has sent eight families of herbivore mammals. But the ground reality is that there are nine families of herbivore mammals, The Ninth family is that of pig which is is not for us.

Search the word Al an'aam to know the facts. Stupid is one who is obcessed with anything and retarded is the one who claps on everything.

I am not saying that we SHOULD eat dogs. I personally would NEVER eat a dog! yuck

BUT cultures in different parts of the world eat dogs, and we have to respect that. The Quran DOES NOT PROHIBIT THE "BEASTS OF BURDEN" as you declare.

I dont understand how people dont get the verse which I quoted. "He ONLY prohibits..."

Has God mentioned dogs? Has he mentioned crabs, omnivores, etc.? NO!

                                    Does God forget? NO!

So where do you get the idea of only the meats of herbivores being lawful?

This is a quote from the Quran (393)

All food used to be lawful for the Children of Israel, until Israel imposed certain
prohibitions on themselves before the Torah was sent down.
Say, "Bring the Torah and read it, if you are truthful."

The same way that hadithist prohibit things which God has made lawful.
Bring your evidence from the Quran that only the meat of herbivores is halal, if you are truthful.

I can only repeat the verse from the quran

"He ONLY prohibits for you the
eating of animals that die of them-
                                    selves (without human interference),
blood, the meat of pigs, and
animals dedicated to other than God..." (2173)

Do you believe God or not?

AGAIN Prohibiting what God has not prohibited is a major sin. It is SHIRK! You are following another authority besides God that mandates religious laws for you!

"They follow idols who decree for them religious laws never authorized by God. If it were not for the predetermined decision, they would have been judged immediately. The wicked have deserved a painful retribution." (4221)

I hope you ponder on the verses which I have provided you with.

                                    Peace

So where do you get the idea of only the meats of herbivores being lawful?

                                        Peace,

According to the Quran, it is safe to conclude that all meats are forbidden except seafood and herbivorous animals or cattle which should add to eight pairs except swine, dead animals(with all its mentioned causes), and running blood.

This means that all birds are forbidden as it was never made permissible and never discussed in the Quran whether which types are allowed or forbidden.

                                        Cheers,

                                        Rami

This doesn't tell me anything! I will check them in english and get back to you. But as I see you have disregarded the "he ONLY prohibts you.." part.
